“Rolling Stone and the Art of the Record Review” is an exhibition of over 80 original illustrations presently on view at New York City's Museum of American Illustration. If landing on the cover of “Rolling Stone” is a perennial dream for rock musicians, a close second would be getting their likenesses on the front page of the review section, where for decades the lead review has been accompanied by a distinctive illustration of the artist.
The art featured in this exhibition spans four decades, representing music legends such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Steven Tyler, Whitney Houston, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and many others. It has from the very beginning been a belief at “Rolling Stone” that art is the best way to present new and legendary albums and their reviews to the world. These are artists who continue to highlight the history of the music industry.
This piece includes a number of high-resolution color illustrations from the exhibition, as well as a gallery of additional illustrations.

According to Showbiz Spy singer Wyclef Jean is no longer running for President of Haiti, his native country. Haiti’s Provincial Electoral Council reportedly disqualified the singer because Haitian law demands that candidates reside in the country for at least five years which Jean has not. With great intentions he appealed the decision but ultimately ended up deciding to withdrawal and help out other ways.

Haitian hip-hop star Wyclef Jean has said he will appeal against a ruling that he cannot run in Haiti's presidential election.
Haiti's electoral commission said that Mr Jean was ineligible to stand as the Haitian constitution requires candidates to have lived in the country for five years prior to an election.
The 40-year-old singer lives in the US.
But he argues that his role as a roving ambassador for Haiti since 2007 exempts him from the residency requirement.

... the question which naturally follows: would Wyclef Jean make an effective president? Aristide did a lot of things to upset the ruling elite, which eventually led to his ouster. Can Jean avoid those same mistakes while still changing the old order in Haiti enough to allow for real change? And can he keep his hands clean of the abuses of power that have plagued previous Haitian presidents? Recent allegations of corruption within Jean's Yele organization are a worrying sign, and hopefully not a harbinger of trouble to come.

Hip-hop, more than most pop genres, is something of a pulpit, urban fire and brimstone garbed in baggy pants and backward caps. So it's little wonder that one of the music form's icons, Haitian-American superstar Wyclef Jean, is the son of a Nazarene preacher — or that he likens himself, as a child of the Haitian diaspora, to a modern-day Moses, destined to return and lead his people out of bondage. Haiti's Jan. 12 earthquake, which ravaged the western hemisphere's poorest country and killed more than 200,000 people, was the biblical event that sealed his calling. After days of helping ferry mangled Haitian corpses to morgues, Jean felt as if he'd "finished the journey from my basket in the bulrushes to standing in front of the burning bush," he told me this week. "I knew I'd have to take the next step."

Yele Haiti, the sketchy foundation that Wyclef Jean founded to help the Haitian people—which received millions in the outpouring of generosity following the wake of the earthquake there—paid Jean's mistress and personal assistant $105,000 in 2008.
That's Zakiya Khatou-Chevassus on the right in the photo above. According to Yele Haiti's 2008 tax return, which was posted this week by the Smoking Gun, the charity paid Khatou-Chevassus $105,000 as an independent contractor in 2008 for "program development." That amounts to roughly one-third of all the money Yele spent that year on management and general expenses

Wyclef Jean has already come under scrutiny for the reported faulty practices of his charity organization, Yele Haiti. Now he’s in the hot seat again after being accused of giving money from the foundation to his alleged mistress.
The Smoking Gun revealed earlier this week that Yele’s 2008 tax returns showed the organization paying $105,000 to Jean's former personal assistant, Zakiya Khatou-Chevassu, for independent contracting.
Gawker.com spoke to several sources who revealed that Jean and Khatou-Chevassus—Yele’s listed vice president—had a non-secretive relationship. “She worked for Wyclef on all Wyclef matters. She did whatever Wyclef needed that day, whether it was related to Yele or not," said the source. "She would do things like book flights, and she wasn't very good at it. It's a shame that she made that much money.”
The source also stated that Khatou-Chevassus' salary was significantly higher that of Yele Haiti's program director.
Gawker cites a history of Jean personally profiting from Yele Haiti, including allegedly using the organization to fund his businesses.
Quickly following the devastating earthquakes in Haiti, Yele became one of the organizations many people donated to, largely due to Wyclef’s avid campaigning. But then the organization’s accounting practices were questioned.
When Wyclef appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show earlier this year, he defended his organization and vehemently denied ever using Yele for personal gain. He also released a homemade video refuting the allegations.
"Not only do I denounce all these statements about Wyclef profiting from his own foundation... I never and would ever take money for my personal pocket when it comes to Yele. I myself have put a million dollars into my own foundation. Not only do I denounce all that, I'm digusted."
Although Jean is married, he has admitted that he and his wife, Marie Claudinette, have an open relationship.
