Russia Today, an international broadcaster out of Moscow, has been trying to promote its country's image abroad. In English language newspapers they've been showing the tender side of Joseph Stalin.
Sure he killed millions of people, but did you know that Stalin wrote romantic poetry?

I love hearing people talk about this. The real human drama of watching your friends be held accountable for their love of T-Shirts, hats, communism, and Gael Garcia Bernal in The Motorcycle Diaries; and then you find out who's spent a Bay of Pigs anniversary with the family of Cuban refugees (regardless of whether you own a "Che's My Homeboy" T-Shirt, it'll be the most fascinating discussion of your life/day/month--dunno, kinda depends on the mean fascination level of your life). This poster, which does that whole photomosaic thing w/ the faces of people Che executed, is distributed by the conservative Young America's Foundation, a conservative group w/ the slogan, "The Conservative Movement Starts Here." Bueno, le traigo un poema (por el Cubano Jose Marti):
Cultivo Una Rosa Blanca
por José Martí
Cultivo una rosa blanca

que me da su mano franca.
Y para el cruel que me arranca
el corazón con que vivo,
cardo ni ortiga cultivo;
cultivo la rosa blanca.Bueno, le traigo un poema (por el Cubano Jose Marti): Cultivo Una Rosa Blanca por... more
Noun Chea, also known as Brother Number 2 or "Pol Pot's shadow", was arrested in Cambodia today. Chea, now in his 80s and in declining health, was in charge of security under the regime. After the deaths of Pol Pot, the leader of the regime, in 1998 and Ta Mok, the military commander, in 2006, Chea is considered the most senior surviving leader. He will be the second member of the violent Khmer Rouge regime to stand trial - Duch, who ran an infamous torture center, has already been charged, and named Chea as directly responsible for much of the killing during the 4 year regime (1975-1979). Chea has denied this and says that he does not fear a trial. He has been living freely in Cambodia since the regime ended.The Khmer Rouge was a communist party that enforced a very strict agrarian society where everyone worked in either a collective farm or a forced labor camp. Over the four years they were in power, estimates of the number of people killed range from 850,000 to 3 million. Most of those were either by execution, starvation, or overwork. One of the group's mottos was "To keep you is no benefit. To destroy you is no loss." The charges against Chea are expected to be announced later this afternoon.
