by Susan Lindauer ............ Hillary Clinton and President Sarkozy might loath to admit it, but the desire to turn back the clock on women rights in Libya constitutes one of the chief goals for NATO Rebels on the Transitional Council. For NATO Rebels—who are overwhelmingly pro-Islamist, regardless of NATO propaganda (see www.obamaslibya.com) — it's a matter of restoring social obedience to Islamic doctrine. However the abaya is more than a symbol of virtue and womanly modesty. It would usher in a full conservative doctrine, impacting women's rights in marriage and divorce, the rights to delay childbirth to pursue education and employment—all the factors that determine a woman's status of independence. That makes this one War Libya's women cannot afford to lose. .. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/recent-news/43014-why-western-woman-must-support-gaddafiby Susan Lindauer ............ Embattled Egytian president H. Mubarak became the leader of is country when Anwar Sadat was assasinated by Muslim extremists in 1981. But is the story as simpleas that? Is there more to the story? Here is an interesting story that you might want to take a look at.
From the EgyptBlog posted 9/1/05
According to witness accounts published in the Egyptian weekly Al-Araby Al-Nasery on June 19, 2005, Sadat had sacked Mubarak but told him to remain in office until Sadat found a replacement. Early on the morning of October 6, assassination day, Sadat had appointed the former deputy prime minister, Dr. Abdel Kader Hatem, as vice president in Mubarak's place. Sadat was supposed to have signed a presidential decree to this effect after the parade. Al-Araby Al-Nasery published a photo of Sadat shaking hands with Dr. Hatem on the morning of October 6. This would be the first time that such a photo comes to light. According to the said newspaper, Sadat was angry with Mubarak because the later had been making secret contacts with the military behind Sadat's back. Other reports say that Sadat also had been made aware of the fact that Mubarak was secretly contacting the Saudi government. The Saudi government had severed all relations with the Egyptian government following the signing of peace treaty between Egypt and Israel in March 1979. The fanatic Saudi religious establishment which is closely connected to the royal family had condemned Sadat to death for making peace with "the Jews, the enemies of Allah." Sadat was defiant and said "the Saudis were but a bunch trash nomads before we cleaned and educated them." The Saudi royal family responded by saying that Saudi Arabia would never have anything to do with Egypt so long as Sadat remained in power.

My Friends (couldn't resist, I had to say it),........ Here, by semi-popular demand, are the suggestions I sent to Obama's Change.gov site for citizen input. It veers from writing to Obama himself to writing for the people who may actually read this. A lot of these ideas may be familiar from my albums and spoken word shows. For the most part I stayed away from the big no-brainers covered by others, and from ideas he would never agree to in a million years. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/recent-news/25280-jello-biafra-open-letter-to-barack-obama-speech-videosMy Friends (couldn't resist, I had to say it),........ The number of Muslim converts in Britain has passed 100,000, fuelled by a surge in young white women adopting the Islamic faith.
The figure has almost doubled in ten years – with the average convert now a 27-year-old white woman fed up with British consumerism and immorality.
The numbers, revealed in a study by multi-faith group Faith Matters, have led to claims that the country is undergoing a process of ‘Islamification’.
But the organisation’s report argued that most converts saw their religion as ‘perfectly compatible’ with living in Britain.
It said: ‘Converts do not represent a devious fifth column determined to undermine the Western way of life – this is a group of normal people united in their adherence to a religion which they, for the most part, see as perfectly compatible with Western life.’

Ominous clouds are on the horizon in the Pacific off California and in the waters off China. An escalating conflict between North & South Korea has brought an aircraft carrier close to the Chinese coast. Earlier this fall there was video of a missile being launched off of Los Angeles a report that was quickly “explained” only some reports indicate a cover-up may be under way. Here we present a pair of stories that illustrate the rising tensions between these two trading partners.
Meanwhile most of our armed Forces are engaging Muslim terrorists whose growing influence in the region are a direct threat to the Chinese. At what point do sensible people ask themselves why the attacks of 9/11 by a small terrorist group we helped create justify fighting a huge war covering five countries Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen? If American forces weren’t engaging radical Muslims in this region they would all be lining up to support the growing Muslim rebellion in western China.
For too long we have engaged in a reckless policy that has plunged us deeply into debt and threatens our way of life. For a long time American business has helped empower a brutal dictatorship that has violently suppressed and dissent. For what the current Chinese government has done in Tiananmen Square, Tibet and to the Falun Gong we have made them into the economic power of the day. In doing so have sold out our ideals in the name of a fast buck only a fairly small number of people got those fast bucks.

Hezbollah adheres to the same politico-religious system adopted by Iran in 1979 following its Islamic revolution. In Iran, the wali al-faqih, or jurist, is the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic. So we went back to really some of the most ancient traditional elements, internationally – even though we’re so aware it’s been done before, by other architects, namely by Jean Nouvel – taking the Islamic motif and converting it into some sort of facade. In our case it was a little more than that. It was going back to the very essence to what makes Islamic architecture recognizable, and if you go back to history there’s a single motif, the Mashrabiya, the sun screen really, using abstract representations, very elaborate arabesques, and turn that motif into some sort of a map to create the facadeSo we went back to really some of the most ancient traditional elements,... more

Breaking news from The Washington Post via Huffington Post;
By Karen DeYoung, Peter Finn and Craig Whitlock, Wednesday, October 6, 2010; 10:36 AM
Taliban representatives and the government of Afghan President Hamid Karzai have begun secret, high-level talks over a negotiated end to the war, according to Afghan and Arab sources.
The talks follow inconclusive meetings, hosted by Saudi Arabia, that ended more than a year ago. While emphasizing the preliminary nature of the current discussions, the sources said that for the first time they believe that Taliban representatives are fully authorized to speak for the Quetta Shura, the Afghan Taliban organization based in Pakistan, and its leader, Mohammad Omar.
"They are very, very serious about finding a way out," one source close to the talks said of the Taliban.
Although Omar's representatives have long publicly insisted that negotiations were impossible until all foreign troops withdraw, a position seemingly buoyed by the Taliban's resilience on the battlefield, sources said the Quetta Shura has begun to talk about a comprehensive agreement that would include participation of some Taliban figures in the government and the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops on an agreed timeline.
The leadership knows "that they are going to be sidelined," the source said. "They know that more radical elements are being promoted within their rank and file outside their control. . . . All these things are making them absolutely sure that, regardless of [their success in] the war, they are not in a winning position."

Many of us don't know much about Islam but that doesn't stop many from saying we don't like it. That's the latest from a Pew Forum survey conducted during the height of the N.Y. mosque furor and released this afternoon.
It also finds that, sure, we agree in theory that Muslims should be able to build places or worship, but in fact, we mostly don't want it in lower Manhattan. Many of us don't know much about Islam but that doesn't stop many from... more
