A second senior New York police officer is being formally investigated over allegations that he assaulted an Occupy Wall Street protester, raising fresh questions over the NYPD's deployment of supervisors on the front line in volatile public order situations.
The officer, who has been named in news reports as deputy inspector Johnny Cardona, was filmed on Friday grabbing the protester from behind, spinning him round and appearing to punch him in the face so hard that he fell to the ground.
The New York Civilian Complaint Review Board, an independent mayoral agency that deals with allegations of excessive or unnecessary force against police, is now investigating the incident, along with a number of other complaints over policing of the protests.
This is the second inquiry the board has launched in the last month into an alleged assault by a senior NYPD officer on Occupy Wall Street protesters. It is also investigating the use of pepper spray on peaceful female protesters by another deputy inspector, Anthony Bologna, who is also the subject of an internal NYPD inquiry.
Linda Sachs, a spokeswoman for the CCRB, said she could not comment on individual officers, but confirmed that the alleged assault was among several being investigated.
"We have several ongoing investigations involving police interactions with protesters. That includes events that occurred on Friday. Those events were videotaped," Sachs told the Guardian.
The victim of the alleged assault, Felix Rivera Pitre, has called for an investigation into Cardona's conduct. Over the weekend, new video was released of an earlier demonstration which appears to show him roughly handling a female protester from the same group that was later pepper-sprayed by Bologna.
Pitre's lawyer, Ron Kuby, who specialises in cases of alleged police brutality, has written to the New York district attorney, Cyrus Vance, demanding a "full, complete and lengthy investigation" into Friday's incident.
The NYPD has neither confirmed nor denied the identity of Cardona as the officer involved in both incidents. A senior police spokesman, Paul Browne, said Rivera was wanted for questioning for allegedly having provoked the confrontation by trying to elbow a police officer, which the officer deflected.

Gov. Chris Christie, who turned down the chance to run for president of the United States earlier this week, has announced his candidacy for Ruler of Occupied Wall Street.
“Being president is not for me. You have to be certifiable to want that job,” Christie declared. “One look at the list of current candidates will confirm that.

FOX News and The New York Times prove yet again that both conservatives and mainstream liberals serve power:
The mainstream media’s propaganda surrounding Occupy Wall Street has been truly breathtaking. For those who believe we have a right/left divide in the mass media, coverage by FOX News and The New York Times must shatter all such delusions. Let’s be clear on this. Both conservative and “liberal” media outlets are playing for the same team. They are all either big corporations themselves or they are owned and controlled by the six mega corporations which dominate the mass media. As such, a populist revolution is against their interest.
Earlier this week, an agitator appeared at Zuccotti Park. I presume he was planted there by FOX News, although I have no proof. He was a self-styled conservative African American who wanted to defend capitalism and Wall Street. Not surprisingly, the FOX News cameras followed his every word. He made outrageous claims, such as that redistribution of wealth is impossible, not just wrong, and that teachers unions bear responsibility for America’s decline, not the big banks which stole trillions through bailouts. And unfortunately, while some of us tried to engage him in honest discussion—I and a group of activists ended up respectfully (and perhaps fruitfully) debating the issues with him for hours after FOX News left— one guy did exactly what FOX News wanted; he refused to let the agitator talk and kept shouting slogans at him, enabling FOX to achieve its goal of making us look like an angry mob. I have been unable to locate the clip, but other pieces of coverage from FOX available on the Web sufficiently illustrate the nefarious nature of their coverage... Continue Reading:

Occupy Wall Street - This Is Not Your Everyday Ordinary Protest. It's Demcracy Fighting For Its Life!
Excerpted from Thom Hartmann's newest book, Screwed; The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class -- And What We Can Do About It
The Founders of this nation, and the Framers of our Constitution, were heavily influenced and inspired by the democracy they saw all around them. Much of the U.S. Constitution is based on the Iroquois Confederacy--the five (later six) tribes who occupied territories from New England to the edge of the Midwest. It was a democracy with elected representatives, an upper and lower house, and a supreme court (made up entirely of women, who held final say in five of the six tribes).
The Framers modeled the oldest democracies, and the oldest forms of the middle class, and thus helped create the truly widespread and strong first middle class in the history of modern civilization.
Back in Europe, however, the sort of democracy the Framers were borrowing and inventing, and even the existence of a middle class itself, was considered unnatural. For most of the seven thousand years of recorded human history, all the way back to the Gilgamesh Epic, the oldest written story, what we call a middle class is virtually unheard of--as was democracy. Throughout most of the history of what we call civilization, an unrestrained economy and the idea of hierarchical social organization has always produced a small ruling elite and a large number of nearly impoverished workers.
Up until the founding of America, the middle class was considered unnatural by many political philosophers. Thomas Hobbes wrote in his 1651 magnum opus Leviathan that the world was better off with the rule of the few over the many, even if that meant that the many were impoverished. Without a strong and iron-fisted ruler, Hobbes wrote, there would be "no place for industry . . . no arts, no letters, no society." Because Hobbes believed that ordinary people couldn't govern themselves, he believed that most people would be happy to exchange personal freedom and economic opportunity for the ability to live in safety and security. For the working class to have both freedom and security, Hobbes suggested, was impossible.

When I read the last two paragraphs of this excerpt something clicked in the old sleepy brain. For a good many years, I could not seem to figure out what the Republicans (not all but most) are after. Especially in the light of the Tea Party Movement, which the wealthiest 1% of our nation had hijacked, I asked myself 'why are these rich b**tards trying to get in on this supposedly grassroots movement? (Hey, Elfie What's It All About?) I figured, maybe it's because the grassroots tea party types do not appear to be the brightest light bulb in the room. Maybe they are being manipulated because they hate so conspicuously and it’s easy to bend, shape and twist animosity any way you want to. But that’s way too simple, there just aren’t enough tea partiers to make a difference for the Rich Fat Cats.
Now, after reading Thom Hartmann's words of wisdom it seems all too clear. They don't want to take this country back, they want to take We The People Back... to a time when there was no such thing as a Middleclass. It was unheard of! As Tomas Hobbes (also excerpted from Screwed) once wrote over three hundred years ago:
"The world {is} better off with the rule of the few over the many, even if that meant that the many were impoverished. Without a strong and iron-fisted ruler, there would be "no place for industry . . . no arts, no letters, no society."
Hobbes believed that ordinary people couldn't govern themselves, he believed that most people would be happy to exchange personal freedom and economic opportunity for the ability to live in safety and security. For the working class to have both freedom and security, was impossible.
Holy Magnum Opus Leviathan Batman, it's perfectly clear to me now. They want a complete return of TOTALITARIANISM! Like visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads… They want OLIGARCHY, with all its privileges!

We better start realizing this to be a fact, as the architects of ‘Occupy Wall Street Protest Movement’ comprehends. This opposition to the 1% wealthiest of our nation, is real and it’s in all our best interest to either join them or support them. (As I intend to do, from this day forward, unless the top 1% corporatists lockstep in and crush it in its tracks.)
Please watch the video of this movement and how a handful of rogue cops show their ignorance (ignorance because they are middleclass also) and try to scare the protesters by pepper and mace spraying a few. What these police officers did, instead of promoting fear, they brought light to this movement and perhaps we owe them a bit of gratitude. (Gratitude that their enormous empty-headedness forced the MAINSTREAM MEDIA to acknowledge the plight of the OCCUPY WALL STREET evolution. thinkingblue
'Occupy Wall Street', US awakening

By Kourosh Ziabari
With its brutal and bloody crackdown on the peaceful demonstrators of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement, the New York police demonstrated that the United States doesn't deserve to call itself a "beacon of freedom" and cradle of democracy anymore.
"Occupy Wall Street" is a grassroots movement which aims at protesting and challenging the increasing social and economic inequality and political intolerance in the United States. The movement describes itself as a "leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions." The organizers of the movement say that the only thing which they have in common is that they constitute the 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. Journalists, political activists and citizens are the members of this popular movement, which has gained momentum after its advertisement was first published in July.

The video images of unarmed and penned female protesters being intentionally maced by NYPD Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna during last week's "Occupy Wall Street" demonstrations have caused a growing public demand for an investigation, and now that a second video has surfaced showing the same officer "getting trigger-happy with the spray, just moments after the first incident," the police commission has no choice but to act...or will they?

Disturbing, powerful, and horrifyingly accurate. Lawrence did a great job. My fear is that that someone managed to convince a few people to try to provoke this peaceful protest of the financial community into violence. I fear they want tensions to rise and something they can blame the protesters for. They want the return of "free speech zones" and suppressing the voice of the people where and whenever possible. And that’s why they’re running scared and doing everything in their power to block this movement’s purpose from reaching the awareness of the people. It’s the very last thing the monied interests want, because once that happens, their tenuous control over the country ceases to be, and that ain’t good for profits.

Every other case involving people arrested for filming cops has been thrown out of court, but media promulgates hoax that recording police is illegal.

41-year old Illinois mechanic Michael Allison faces life in jail for recording police officers after authorities hit him with eavesdropping charges based on the hoax that it is illegal to film cops, a misnomer that has been disproved by every other case against people filming police officers being thrown out of court.
The state of Illinois is trying to charge Allison with five counts of wiretapping, each punishable by four to 15 years in prison.
Allison refused a plea deal which would have seen him serve no jail time but would reinforce the hoax that it is illegal to film police officers, as well as acting as a chilling effect to prevent other Americans from filming cases of police brutality.
Allison has chosen to reject the plea bargain and fight to clear his name via a jury trial, arguing, “If we don’t fight for our freedoms here at home we’re all going to lose them.”
A judge is expected to rule on when the case will go to trial over the next two weeks.
As another report concerning the Allison case documents, in every other example where people have been arrested for recording police officers, the charges have been dropped and the case thrown out of court. Despite this fact, the state is so desperate to make an example out of Allison that an assistant from the Attorney General’s Office was recently sent to speak against him during a hearing.
The notion that it is illegal to film police officers is a mass hoax that is being promulgated by authorities, the media, and police officers themselves.
