You're driving down the road, hey that's a cool billboard of a giant fork holding up the steak picture. Then, you realize it smells like steak meat *gets out car, worships billboard*
In North Carolina a company has invested in a billboard that gives off the smell of steak for drivers, I'm assuming the smell of car fumes don't block it out.
What billboard would you like to smell?

Wofford College used a stifling defense to overcome a long second-half scoring drought to beat Appalachian State University 56-51 on Monday night for the Southern Conference Title and its first NCAA tournament berth. Wofford College is one of the smallest schools playing Division I basketball, with fewer than 1500 students (half of whom are men), and it’s known primarily for its rigorous academic standards.
While relatively few sports fans know very much about Wofford, looking back over this season, the Terriers should have been much more on everyone’s mind. Wofford was one possession away from winning at the University of Pittsburgh in the season opener (they lost by only 3 points), defeated both the University of Georgia and the University of South Carolina from the SEC, and went 15-3 during the regular season in a respected league.
Currently, Wofford is 26-8, winning its 13th straight game and 19 of its last 20 games. So there was a very large crowd of very happy supporters at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte (NC) last night, and Wofford’s tournament victory led to a giddy dancing and singing celebration on the floor.
With the win, the Terriers have earned the conference’s automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Tournament. The 2010 men’s basketball selection show will be held Sunday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. and will be televised on CBS.
This piece includes a number of high-resolution color photographs, a slide show of photographs and two video highlights of the game.

After its decisive 77-58 win over Western Carolina University on Sunday night, the Wofford College basketball team has advanced to the Southern Conference Tournament Championship game for the first time in school history. Wofford made 15-of-16 free throws in the final three minutes of the game to claim the victory at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC. Wofford has now won twelve in a row (and eighteen of its last nineteen games) and is 25-8 on the season and 15-3 in the Southern Conference.
Wofford will play Appalachian State University in the Championship Finals, which will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and be played at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte at 9:00 pm on Monday night. The winner of that game will earn the conference’s automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

Not exactly, Willie Nelson was not on the tour bus at the time but most of his band was.
"The strong odor of marijuana wafting from the window of a Willie Nelson tour bus led to six members of the country singer's entourage getting busted in Duplin County, North Carolina for possession of marijuana and three-fourths of a quart of moonshine, law enforcement officials said.
Bass player Dan Edward "Bee" Spears was on the bus, and the 60-year-old longtime band member from Franklin, Tenn., was one of those cited. The event's planner and one of his assistants also were cited for trying to interfere with the ALE investigation."

RALEIGH- Smart Start partnerships in Durham, Onslow, and Sampson Counties received a total of $6.2 million in federal stimulus funding to help expand Early Head Start across North Carolina. The partnerships, which lead and convene early education efforts in their communities, will use the funds to provide home-visiting services and help more children access high-quality child care.
Decades of research show that the earliest years of childhood are critical to brain development and lay the foundation for all future learning. In addition, children who have positive, nurturing relationships with their parents and caregivers have better health and social skills. Early Head Start is a federally-funded program with services for low-income families that enhance children's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development; help pregnant women access prenatal and postpartum care; and support parents in fulfilling their parental roles.
These goals are often served through access to high-quality child care and home-visiting programs in which trainers go into the home and show parents, a child’s first and primary teachers, developmentally-appropriate activities for their children. Home-visiting programs may also offer comprehensive medical, nutritional and social services.
Durham’s Partnership for Children received $3.3 million to create Early Head Start programs in Durham for the first time. The county has 15,600 children birth to three years of age, of which almost a quarter, live in poverty. Durham’s Partnership for Children will serve 120 children with a focus on supporting homeless and special-needs children.
The Onslow County Partnership for Children received nearly $1.5 million to implement Early Head Start in Onslow County for the first time. The Partnership will begin a home-visiting program for 72 low-income pregnant women and children with specific emphasis on serving the Hispanic community and children with disabilities.
The Sampson County Partnership for Children received more than $1.4 million to provide intensive family support services for 80 at-risk young children and their families.
“The federal government’s investment means a brighter future for North Carolina children, who will be better prepared to succeed in school and become productive members of society as adults,” said Stephanie Fanjul, President of the North Carolina Partnership for Children, Inc., the organization that leads Smart Start. “Years of experience and collaboration with early education programs in the state make Smart Start the ideal vehicle to maximize this stimulus money and best serve local families.”

Animal instinct, pet owners swear by it. From cats sensing impending health problems like seizures, to dogs barking madly when unfamiliar footsteps appear on the garden path.
Even as far back as 373BC, it is recorded that animals, including rats, snakes and weasels, deserted the Greek city of Helice in droves just days before a quake devastated the place.
Those without that 'special bond', though, remain sceptical. But doubters, prepare to be converted.
CCTV footage has emerged of a news station office in North Carolina seconds before an eathquake struck on January 9.
It shows a dog idly passing the time on the floor before, apparently without any duress, springing up and making a swift exit.
Seconds later seats swing out of position, draws slip open and fixtures and fittings begin to wobble. Then, the shuddering really starts.
While our K9 friend has escaped prior to the quake, people dash for the exits when the room begins to shake forcibly.
The only question is, why didn't man's best friend warm his unaware human colleagues?

North Carolina's smoke-free restaurants and bars law goes into effect at midnight Jan. 2, banning smoking in all restaurants and bars, with a few exceptions.
"This is a historic moment for the health of people in North Carolina," said Governor Bev Perdue. "This single action will save lives and improve the health of North Carolina residents, visitors and food service workers, as they will avoid many of the health problems caused by secondhand smoke."
The new law, passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Perdue in May, includes not only restaurants and bars, but venues that serve food and are inspected by local health departments, including many recreational facilities, convenience stores, hotel common areas and private/for-profit clubs.
Hotels and other lodging facilities may designate no more than 20 percent of their guest rooms for smoking.
Exceptions from the smoke-free law include cigar bars that meet a list of criteria and non-profit private clubs, such as patriotic clubs and some country clubs.
The no-smoking law requires affected businesses to post no-smoking signs, remove ashtrays and ask smokers to step outside to smoke. Businesses that repeatedly break the law can be fined up to $200 per day. Smokers who refuse to smoke outside can be fined up to $50 by local law enforcement for defying the law.
Enforcement is complaint-driven. Local health departments will investigate businesses based on filed complaints.
