Chastity Bono, the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, has undergone gender reassignment surgery and now asserts she [that’s right, she] is a man. She now wants to be called Chaz.
She has written a tell-all entitled Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man, and has appeared on “The David Letterman Show” and “Oprah.” A documentary about her journey called Becoming Chaz premiered on Oprah’s OWN network. I know my thoughts on this matter will be politically incorrect, but they are entirely biologically and psychiatrically accurate.
First, Chaz Bono is not a man. She is a woman who has undergone radical surgeries and is taking male hormones in order to look like a man. That isn’t a political position, it’s a biological reality. Chaz Bono wants to be thought of as male, but she is not male.
You may disagree with me on philosophical grounds, arguing that behaving like a man and feeling like a man is tantamount to being a man, but that argument does nothing to change the biological reality.
Second, while Chaz Bono may now feel that her journey toward self-acceptance has ended, I am not convinced. I say this because, absent the gender politics involved, I was taught to consider Chaz Bono’s contention that she is male as a psychotic delusion—a fixed and false belief.
Psychosis is not a predictor of long-term emotional well-being or stability.
Mind you, I am not judging Ms. Bono. But there is nothing substantially different from a woman believing she is a man than there is about a woman believing she is a CIA agent being followed by the KGB (when in reality, she is, say, a salesperson at J. Crew).
Very few people, if any, would suggest that the proper treatment for such a woman would be to have the Central Intelligence Agency make her an honorary agent and hire a few former KGB agents to chase her around town. While that “treatment” might make her more comfortable for a while, bending reality to conform to a person’s psychosis just wouldn’t be a good idea. For one thing, it would make us all lose our sense of what is real and true. For another, it would simply perpetuate the woman’s underlying psychiatric illness.
Very few people, if any, would suggest that the way to treat someone who is petrified of death and insisting he is turning 16, not 61, would be to throw him a Sweet Sixteen party. Good psychiatrists, in particular, would be burrowing to the roots of the man’s discomfort with aging. If necessary, medications might be prescribed.
I once treated a woman who believed her children had been replaced by masquerading doubles and another who believed her parents could hear her thoughts through listening devices implanted in the walls. I did the hard work of getting to the bottom of those psychotic symptoms. I certainly didn’t hang up “Missing” posters with the first woman or start smashing holes in the walls of my office with the second.
Delusional disorders are notoriously difficult to treat. Paranoia (as in, the CIA example) can require extensive psychotherapy and anti-psychotic medication. Sometimes, that isn’t even enough. So you can imagine that believing you are a man when you are a woman could require even more vigorous and dedicated attempts to alleviate the psychotic person’s symptoms.
Is surgery to remove a woman’s breasts, close her vagina and create a makeshift penis for her really so very different (other than being far more permanent)? Is it really likely to yield a “cure” for a woman’s delusion that she is a man, or vice-versa? Does it really reach the depths of dissatisfaction, which create gender identity disturbances, to begin with?
I don’t think so.
I think Chaz Bono, who is, in fact, a woman, will not escape, through surgery or manipulation of hormones, suffering that is far more than skin deep.

Those who persist in the delusion that the Club for the Perpetuation of Tyranny and Terror, aka the United Nations, is the authoritative arbiter of global justice and ‘human rights’ should be asked whether they still think the same thing after reading this:

Last week, the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly voted on a special resolution addressing extrajudicial, arbitrary and summary executions. The resolution affirms the duties of member countries to protect the right to life of all people with a special emphasis on a call to investigate killings based on discriminatory grounds. The resolution highlights particular groups historically subject to executions including street children, human rights defenders, members of ethnic, religious, and linguistic minority communities, and, for the past 10 years, the resolution has included sexual orientation as a basis on which some are targeted for death.

The tiny West African nation of Benin (on behalf of the UN's African Group) proposed an amendment to strike sexual minorities from the resolution. The amendment was adopted with 79 votes in favor, 70 against, 17 abstentions and 26 absent.

A collection of notorious human rights violators voted for the amendment including Afghanistan, Algeria, China, Congo, Cuba, Eritrea, North Korea, Iran (didn't Ahmadinejad tell the world there were no gays in Iran?), Egypt, Malaysia, Pakistan, Russia, Sudan, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.

Add to this Bahamas, Belize (where you get 10 years for being gay), Jamaica (10 years of hard labor), Grenada (10 years), Guyana (life sentence), Saint Kitts and Nevis (10 years), Saint Lucia (10 years), Saint Vincent (10 years), South Africa (Apartheid? What apartheid?), and Morocco (ruled by a gay monarch!). They are all on the list of nations that do not think execution of gays and lesbians is worthy of condemnation or investigation. (The full vote tally is published beneath this column.) To its shame, Colombia was among the 16 nations who abstained.

Those against the amendment include every European nation present, all Scandinavian countries, India, Korea, most of Latin America, all of North America, and only one Middle Eastern nation: Israel. In most countries in the Middle East, it is a crime to be gay--in some, like Saudi Arabia, it is punishable by beheading and in others, like Iran, by hanging.

The UN has a remarkable track record of doing virtually nothing when presented with mass killings or genocide. ‘Never again!’ was the cry after the holocaust. Since then, the world has witnessed a dozen more never agains with strong condemnation from the UN coming after the corpses pile up. A resolution of the sort that was voted on in the General Assembly is significant for its clarity of message: ‘It’s okay to kill the gays.’

It is because the western world relies upon the UN as the touchstone for international law, justice and ‘human rights’ that the western world now appeases and empowers tyrants and terror states while abandoning or dumping upon their victims. The UN is a global deformity that now stands at the very fulcrum of the madness that has consumed the free world. Why the original TSA poster is most likely a homophobic douchebag and is perpetuating US stupidity

Some random guy decides to post a blog complaining about how someone might get close to his junk and suddenly horror stories about the TSA start pouring in....so typical for a country in which one of the primary news stations, CNN, uses Facebook, Twitter, and iReports to fill up the 24 hour news cycle. Thank God we don't consider the possibility of focusing on stories which enrich our minds and culture.
The guy was whining about being patted down, which is something that happens to anyone who has been in a rough part of town or a high security area. Go to a club downtown, get patted down. Work at intelligence, military, or research facilities... get patted down. Any areas in which there is an obvious security risk will probably result in people being patted down.
Just in case some people missed 9/11 and the kamikazes, a plane happens to be a mobile and potentially explosive device or, in other words, a flying bomb. A plane in the wrong hands can take out any building at any time.
The original TSA blogger(whose name I refuse to waste my time looking for) complained about how he felt he was going to be molested by the TSA. I could understand if the TSA officer happened to enjoy the pat down or if he stuck his hands down the homophobe's pants and played with his balls, but as is he just sounds like another whiny US citizen who thinks that his privacy supersedes the safety of all the other passengers.
The idea that he deserves special treatment begs the question of whether or not US citizens believe that only certain people(the brown ones?) deserve to be scrutinized. I'm sure the terrorists on 9/11 were standing around screaming "Allahu Akbar" with bombs hanging out of their pants.
Some horror stories have popped up involving children, cancer patients, etc. However, if you review the non-mainstream news you will realize that the TSA's actions are potentially justifiable. Children have on multiple occasions been utilized by parents or relatives to try to sneak drugs past security checkpoints in airports and prisons. A young Asian man recently disguised himself as a seemingly innocent and defenseless old man in order to sneak onto a plane. Appearances are deceiving but US citizens are too arrogant to realize that.
Granted some of the TSA agents went too far, however condemning an entire agency because of a few cases out of the millions of people who travel each year is absolutely idiotic. But the story has gained traction because the quality of the US media has degraded to the point that controversy has replaced the former viewpoint of if it bleeds it leads(which replaced if it's culturally significant it lead. Mr. Murrow, how I miss you so).
From a purely sociological standpoint, one can find a multitude of instances during which authority figures have abused their power. Cops have been accused of crimes including: assault, rape, child molestation, murder, theft, etc. Review the Standford prison experiment and you can see how quickly a person can be corrupted by power. The people working for the TSA are just as capable of becoming corrupted as a police officer or a soldier(hopefully everyone noticed the story about the US soldiers killing civilians just for fun).
The solution....fire the abusive TSA officers. Don't condemn an entire agency just become some homophobe couldn't deal with the possibility that a man might graze his clothes covered penis for a few seconds.
Football players slap each other's butts all the time, and some depraved individuals kick or punch each other in the balls from time to time. It's not like some dirty old man or woman is going to latch onto you and ask you if you like it during a TSA pat down. Most of the officers are just there to do a job for a paycheck, like everyone else.
