Micro-philanthropy: A new model of creating social change.
Here' how it works: We arrive in a country, assess the needs of local community, seek out the best way to help and then apply our financial resources to improve the situation at hand. Whether it's medicine for rural health clinics or wheelchairs for physically-challenged people, every dollar we distribute goes DIRECTLY to those in need.
This is the most effective model for international aid. Check it out:

A Rio de Janeiro tour company could be in trouble for giving tourists too intimate a view of life in the city's notorious slums, including photo opportunities with drug gang leaders.
The Brazilian city's tourism chief said on Monday that the company, Private Tours, could be stripped of its license after a report in Sunday's Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper that it had set up meetings between traffickers and tourists.
The paper sent a reporter disguised as a foreign tourist on the 4-hour, $55 tour of Rocinha, the city's largest slum, that included visits to the "bocas de fumo" where traffickers sell drugs to Rio residents.
It said the traffickers told the tourists stories about their time in prison, described the life of a Rio drug dealer, and would then pose for pictures with their guns -- as long as their faces were not photographed.
That sounds soooo cool! As a huge fan of City of God and the City of Men TV series (not the lame movie) and Baile Funk, I'd be on this tour in a second. You'd think that Brazilian authorities would see the opportunity to help these people set up some legitimate businesses. To bad their super racist...A Rio de Janeiro tour company could be in trouble for giving tourists too intimate a... more

Viva Favela portal is the favelas spot in the world wide web. Viva Favela uses the internet to spread the favela´s culture through reporting, articles and photographs. It vividly demonstrates that there is more than violence and poverty in these places. Favela Rising is the movie about AfroReggae, a band started by Anderson and Junior, two young men of the Brazilian favelas. Favelas are the 600+ extreme poverty communities in Brazil. In retaliation for the murder of four police by favela drug dealers, the police murdered 21 favela residents who had no connection to drug dealing. Anderson's brother was one of the 21. Instead of vengance, Anderson and Junior moved away from violence and drugs to form the band AfroReggae. AfroReggae is now, 15 years later, not only a band, but a social movement for change, with 61 projects and international tours. The power of AfroReggae is in the story of their struggle to create an alternative to dealing drugs and dying young. Their music, dance and message is powerful and tranforming..Youth the world over and people of all ages will be moved and inspired by this film. Beautifully and sensitively photographed, you will never forget the opening aerial views of the endless sea of hundreds of thousands of favela homes. You will never forget the 21 open caskets laid out in the favela. You will never forget the electrifying music and message of AfroReggae, the drug dealing youth with machine guns, or the police brutalizing kids. You will never forget Anderson's surfing accident and the doctors and spiritual healers who worked with him. If I could suggest only one movie that reflects both the impossible struggle and hope for the extreme poor, this would be it. This is the movie to reach the youth all over the world who have no hope for a better life. This shows an irresistible way out - through community, passion, love, and creativity. See also the films Promises, Water,Warrior of the Light, and Regret to Inform. These movies heal hearts and souls, and will heal our world, no less.
