When you see a symbol, you almost instantly understand something fundamental and profound about what’s behind that particular symbol. A well-conceived corporate logo, for instance, reveals important information about the company. The logo often has nothing to do with what the firm makes or does, but the company’s mission and how its principals want the business to be perceived by the world. Symbols are visual metaphors for what they represent. When you see a symbol, you almost instantly understand something fundamental and... more

By Julian Zimmerman October 22, 2010, . Story by Julian Zimmerman /AP Def Jam was created by Rick Rubin in his dorm room at New York University and its first release was a single by his punk-rock group, Hose. Russell Simmons joined Rubin shortly after they were introduced to each other by DJ Jazzy Jay. The first single released with a Def Jam Recordings logo was T La Rock & Jazzy Jay "It's Yours." The first releases with a Def Jam Recordings catalog number were LL Cool J's "I Need a Beat" and the Beastie Boys' "Rock Hard," both in 1984. The singles sold well, eventually leading to a distribution deal with CBS Records' (which would later become Sony Music Entertainment) Columbia Records the following year. This created a short-lived subsidiary label called OBR Records, catered toward R&B artists — the first artist signed to that imprint was Oran "Juice" Jones, who enjoyed success with his hit single "The Rain". Def Jam also signed their first and only thrash metal band Slayer in 1986, and their debut album was the only Def Jam release to be distributed through Geffen Records, as opposed to Columbia. As the decade drew to a close, the label signed Public Enemy, whose controversial lyrical content garnered the company both critical acclaim and disdain. Lord Hector Diono a native Washingtonian, now an Atlanta Georgia based music producer and recording artist teamed up with the covenant Def Jam Records A&R Veteran Michael"Goldie Mack" Greaux who has taken on the task of managing the underground heavy weight for better distribution and placement for his music production company Dark Town Licensing as well as his indie label Dark Town Music Group, llc after receiving an email from an international online music watch dog administrator The rapper, crooner/song writer, and music producer sealed the deal October 16, 2010 for the distribution of his next ten Album projects and the next 50 singles. "Jacob's Ladder (Climb it)was remastered and is set to be released on March 14, 2011 this is the first of many music releases to come from the Georgia based music icon, now available at all major online music outlets, industry insiders are asked to contact the Def Jam Universal A&R Veteran Michael"Goldie" Greaux regarding any interest in Lord Hector Diono whom he officially signed to his management company May 11, 2011. In some parts of the world, women are still not taught or allowed to read. And in the United States, women were not given the same education as their male counterparts until decades later. With similar policies overseas, one could think it difficult to find a female on page worthy of praise. With only eyelash batting or being tied to the proverbial train tracks, women have made up a poor part of the printed page.

Feminist writer Camille Paglia wrote in the Sunday times that although Lady Gaga claims to represent the freaks and misfits of the world, her manufactured image suggests otherwise.
Though she borrows from erotic icons like Madonna and Cher, Paglia suggest that Lady Gaga's over the top image represents the end to the sexual revolution:
Furthermore, despite showing acres of pallid flesh in the fetish-bondage garb of urban prostitution, Gaga isn’t sexy at all – she’s like a gangly marionette or plasticised android. How could a figure so calculated and artificial, so clinical and strangely antiseptic, so stripped of genuine eroticism have become the icon of her generation? Can it be that Gaga represents the exhausted end of the sexual revolution? In Gaga’s manic miming of persona after persona, over-conceptualised and claustrophobic, we may have reached the limit of an era…
What do you think? Is Lady Gaga's persona authentic or just an image? And does she follow in the footsteps of other sexual icons, or does she miss a beat?Feminist writer Camille Paglia wrote in the Sunday times that although Lady Gaga... more

Goddess Deck Swap
Hosted by Kelly Kilmer
A fun collaborative art idea---
If you've never participated in a "deck" swap you'll find this very informative and motivating. If you are ever given the opportunity to play in one I recommend it. I had the good fortune to participate in Kelly Kilmer's Goddess Deck swap. The goal was for each participant to make the front and back of two 3" x 5" "cards" and then to color copy them for each of the participants. The players could then laminate their cards if they wished.
The theme was goddesses and each participant was required to use at least one Acey Deucy stamp. Kelly gave each player a beautiful metallic silver bag to store our cards in.
