Fat Joe Speaks On Relationship With DJ Khaled

Fat Joe recently talked about his current relationship with long-time associate DJ Khaled and applauded the Def Jam South president for taking advantage of the opportunities presented to him. Joe said he helped put Khaled in the rap game.

"We passed him the baton and let him go," Crack said about Khaled. "What we do is try to help our brothers grow. He took it from there and he's got the 'We The Best' thing and he's doing his thing. I'm proud of him and we want him to do well. It's just, you know, that's how it is man. There are people who do things and there's a lot of people givien out opportunities. Some people take it and go all the way with it and try to create history and some people are passive and don't wanna work as hard and they take the same opportunities and sit on they a** and don't do it. Khaled was the go-getter, he went up there and did what he had to do." (Ozone Magazine)

Last year, Joe talked about Khaled becoming Def Jam South president.

"No one has ever seen an executive like DJ Khaled," Joe said in an interview. "Everybody in the music business who's an executive has been polished for the job. Khaled comes with the energy that hasn't been seen in this game, ever, from the day that f*cking Lyor Cohen and Russell Simmons opened Def Jam! He's going to put out nothing but hits. And I expect him to be one of the biggest executives in a couple of years, the hip-hop game has ever seen. I guarantee he's going to be an executive of a lifetime. Remember I told you." (Complex)

Khaled previously said maintaining a relationship with Island Def Jam executive L.A. Reid helped secure his spot.

"This is what I've always wanted to do, is be an executive and take it to another level," Khaled said in an interview. "L.A. [Reid] just hit me one day. He was like, 'We should bring Khaled onboard. He makes hits, he has relationships.' I got a team of producers and we go in hard. My job is to bring hits to the table and work with new artists and work with established artists. I'm bringing new energy to the game and to the building." (MTV)

Earlier this year, Khaled spoke on his place in rap history.

"I'm like the L.A. Reid of hip-hop, the Berry Gordy of hip-hop," Khaled told radio personality Jenny Boom Boom. "I feel like I'm the executive right now that's in the streets and going to take it to the next level, that's the goal, you know what I'm saying? That's the next goal. At Def Jam, we're one big team, and I'm an executive at Def Jam, office in Miami, but I gotta come to New York, do big meetings...LA Reid is a boss -- those [firing reports] are rumors, that's not happening. Fat Joe Explain Why Not To Believe Everything You Hear In Rap

Terror Squad leader Fat Joe has inked a blog posting speaking on the thin lines between reality and fiction rap. Joe says rap fans should not take every lyric they hear as truth when listening to their favorite artists.(SOHH)

"A lot of rappers live in mansions in the suburbs talking about they on the corner doing this and that, which is not true," he wrote. "As far as reality rap, there are a few of us who speak reality in most of our music but I'd be lying to you if I tell you every lyric I ever said was the truth. It would be a lie, because at the end of the day, we're poets. We're authors and we should be held to that. I'm by far one of the realest rappers if you check my history and what I've done or wherever I come from. I have a justifiable story. But when you look at it in the bigger perspective, no rapper should have to be held to those standards of if you're a rapping gangsta then you have to walk around with a gun, you have to shoot somebody or get caught hustling. That's not the truth. You're a poet, you're an author, you're allowed to make any kind of music you want as long as it's dope." (VIBE)

Fat Joe is currently working on his next solo album, The Dark Side, on E1 Music.

"I'm just trying to go hard. I need the right team," Joe said in an interview. "The right promotion is right for me. I ain't have no team to really promote my stuff. It was important for me. I had a couple of offers on the table, but I went with who I know really knows how to roll up their sleeves and work and really get it done...It was a matter of getting the right deal structured. With me, it's all about owning my masters. If I don't have ownership of my music, I don't really wanna do it. A lot of labels ain't comfortable giving people the ownership of their masters. Basically, I wanted my cake and eat it too. I wanted to own my masters, plus I wanted the illest team that works radio and works video harder than anybody...And I got it." (MTV)

Joe confirmed the move to E1 via press release earlier this month.

"It's been a long time coming," he stated. "I have a long history with Alan Grunblatt and everyone at E1. Although it's a small label, they have the best marketing and promotion staff in the hip-hop game and I'm looking forward to working with them on my new album, 'The Dark Side.'" (E1 Press Release)

Last February, the rapper said artists like Trey Songz, R. Kelly and Young Jeezy will be featured on the album.

"The dude Scoop DeVille, the guy who produced the Snoop Dogg ['I Wanna Rock'] joint," Joe said referring to his "Slow Down" single. "We coming with that album, The Dark Side this summer. Early June, whatever the case may be. The album is crazy -- I got this crazy joint with me and Trey Songz and we got me and [R. Kelly] after that. They hard, they hard. Basically, I don't want to say what they are on the radio but they hustler anthems...we gotta a couple more announcements to make, you gonna see the movie unfold.'' Fat JOe Blogs About Ricky Martin Coming Out Of The Closet

Terror Squad leader Fat Joe has shared his reaction to fellow Latin artist Ricky Martin announcing his homosexuality. Writing via a blog posting, Joe explained his stance on the situation.

"Everybody's their own man," he wrote. "And if Ricky Martin felt like he had to come out of the closet and that's what he does and that's what he represents, then good for him. It ain't for me to make a decision whether he should come out or whatever the case may be. The most disgusting things that I've seen, and I'm not saying about being gay at all, it's when you have artists who have a wife and live with a wife and don't admit they have a wife and two kids and thinking that's for the image. How do you think that makes a girl feel walking around knowing I live with this guy, I love him, I share everything with him but he never wanna say I'm his wife? So you can just imagine what Ricky Martin was going through. With me, it's all about being comfortable with who you are and if you gay, fine, be gay. I'm not gay but fine, you do what you do. I'll do what I do. I think it's 2010 and everybody should be allowed to live happy and live their lives and whatever makes you happy, then so be it." (VIBE)

Last month, Martin released a statement regarding his sexual preference.

"To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids where [sic] born with. Enough is enough. This has to change. This was not supposed to happen 5 or 10 years ago, it is supposed to happen now. Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment," he wrote. (Yahoo Music News)

Last summer, N.O.R.E. said a successful gay rapper exists in hip-hop.

"The gay community is here," Nore said in an interview. "It's not secretive. When you're in the industry and the minute you make a certain amount of money, you cannot avoid it...And the craziest thing in the world is you get used to it...They don't bother you, son, most gay men don't like straight guys...I have recorded, not with people who are openly gay, but people who are closet gays. I've got songs, you know, Google it. I'm positive I have worked with a gay rapper. I didn't know [beforehand] but when I found out, I didn't jump off a diving board into a pool full of sharks. It is what it is...I'm sure my sexuality messing with b*tches does not make them mad...There is [a successful gay rapper out now] and he won't get me to say the name. Juelz Santana previously apologized and clarified gay comments he made last year.

"As far as haters, for you to sit behind a computer and just give off hate, and I didn't mean it as far as potentially you being gay, it's just almost like a gay act," Santana explained. "It was really just for the haters...And when I mean gay, it's no offense to gay people once again, because I have gay people that work around me. I'm comfortable, I do my business with them...It's almost like saying you're acting like a b*tch...To anybody who took it to that offense, I'm truly sorry from the bottom of my heart." Fat Joe Reveals "Dark Side" Album is More Hard Core

Terror Squad leader Fat Joe has opened up about the inspiration behind his upcoming Dark Side. According to Joe, the album features both commercial hit records and street tracks inspired by his fans.

"This album, I just wanted to take it to the streets crazy," Joe said in an interview. "When I go on tour I see a lot of my fans that are real loyal. They all kept telling me, 'Yo, Joe we want you to come back to the hardcore.' I tried to make them happy so I just took it all the way to the dark side. I'm just trying to give 'em that balance of that real street gritty Fat Joe -- the gangsta early Fat Joe -- but at the same time who also knows how to make hit records." (VIBE)

The solo effort will contain guest spots from Cam'ron, The Clipse and more.

"I got this sh*t called 'Kilo,' produced by Infamous, with me, the Clipse and Cam'ron. Bananas! I told you I was taking you to the dark side. N*ggas is going hard. N*ggas is going super hard. N*ggas will get this album and be like, 'D*mn. Joe knows how to make the hard-core album of a lifetime.' ... I got my Just Blaze track today, so I'm excited. I got [DJ Premier], Just Blaze, Scram Jones. Me and Cool & Dre did this monster with Trey Songz. I'm real happy with the album, man. I'm like one or two gems away from wrapping the deal. Earlier this year, Joe dropped his album's first single, "Slow Down (Ha Ha)" featuring Young Jeezy.

Fat Joe States Drake Has more longevity in rap than 50 Cent.

From Joey Crack's perspective, Drizzy offers fans versatility with his music writing ability.

"He's just moving at a way faster pace than other artists have in the past," Joe explained in an interview. He's putting out maybe five, six, seven hit records. You know how hard it is for a person to have one hit? So imagine what his album is like...Two very different artists...As far as I'm concerned, [50 Cent] had one hot album, and his first album was a classic and that's it.

After that everything else was bubble gummed down. So Drake, I think he will outlast 50 Cent. If you talk about 50 Cent on top really making hot music it didn't even last two, three, four years.Looking at the quality of the music that Drake is making and the different lanes--he wrote that song for Alicia Keys, 'Unthinkable'--I think we ain't seen nobody like him yet." Last summer, 50 compared his 2003 industry buzz to Drake's current popularity.

"I don't think you can accomplish that right now," Fif said in an interview. "Not without finance. I hear his record on the radio. He got a good buzz, I hear him. Sh*t, it wasn't possible for my music to be on the radio when I was coming. You know mine's was completely organic. Like when you hear a song on the radio, it means it's being worked. Ain't nothing there 'just because.' Enough for it to be playing every hour on the hour. That song is being worked like he's on the label. I'm sure Syliva Rhone or Universal, they're spending money to get the ['Best I Ever Had'] played so the public is feeling like it's just happening. 50 also shared his thoughts of Jay-Z doing the "Off That" Drake collaboration last year.

"[Lil Wayne] has that new kid, what's his name, Drake," Fif said in an interview. "The kid is coming up. I heard Jay-Z got him on his single. Right? That was ill, like, that was fast! For him to put him on his single, like that's ill. I don't know if he's rhyming or singing but the fact that he's on it is hot. Like that was a fast come-up. Jay won't even rap on his own artists and be in the video with 'em. Freeway, he did Freeway dirty. In the Freeway project, we were doing something together. It was all of us together, Jay had a record with Freeway and I said 'If you shoot that one, I'll shoot the one that I did with him and we'll make the video.' Drake recently said his Thank Me Later debut album was near completion.
