After attending a 9/11 panel in northwest D.C. on Monday, Ralph Nader told The Nation‘s George Zornick that Americans had mostly ignored the reasons that the terrorist attacks occurred.
“All we want to say is that it was a terrorist attack, it was evil, don’t talk about what caused it,” he said. “What really lead to it was, one, we back dictators over there that repress and kill their own people with American arms. Two, we support the Israeli position against the rights of the Palestinian people to have their own state. And three, we have repeatedly failed — no matter how much money we spend — to defend our own country.”
“The folly of the military-industrial complex is that it not only erodes our economy and destroys a quality standard of living, but it also insures an empire which is insatiable in terms of the contracts that Lockheed Martin and others want to dominate the world,” Nader added. “It’s just the opposite of defense, an empire eventually devours its own people.”
Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) was booed at the CNN/Tea Party Republican debate on Monday night for trying to explain why al Qaeda had attacked the U.S.

A former FBI agent who worked at the heart of America's battle against al-Qaeda has told the BBC he is being prevented from telling the truth as he challenges the back story of 9/11 and what has happened since.
"It was a combination of frustration, anger, sadness, betrayal. The only thing I recall is I left the office, went across the hall to the bathroom and I just threw up."
He believes the material would have made a difference.
"We were looking for them overseas. They were here. People in our government knew that they were here. We were not told," he says.

The Years of Shame
Is it just me, or are the 9/11 commemorations oddly subdued?
Actually, I don’t think it’s me, and it’s not really that odd.
What happened after 9/11 — and I think even people on the right know this, whether they admit it or not — was deeply shameful. The atrocity should have been a unifying event, but instead it became a wedge issue. Fake heroes like Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani, and, yes, George W. Bush raced to cash in on the horror. And then the attack was used to justify an unrelated war the neocons wanted to fight, for all the wrong reasons.
A lot of other people behaved badly. How many of our professional pundits — people who should have understood very well what was happening — took the easy way out, turning a blind eye to the corruption and lending their support to the hijacking of the atrocity?
The memory of 9/11 has been irrevocably poisoned; it has become an occasion for shame. And in its heart, the nation knows it.The Years of Shame Is it just me, or are the 9/11 commemorations oddly subdued?... more
Literally every day since September 11, 2001 - no matter where I am or what I’m doing - I look at a clock at exactly 9:11. I feel a connection with that day that I cannot explain. Like most Americans, I can tell you where I was and what I was doing when the second plane hit the south tower of the World Trade Center. But, although I feel connected, I have a very different perspective of that day than most Americans.
We are upon the 10th anniversary of the horrific event that took the lives of 2,819 people and changed the lives of every American forever. Every day at 9:11, my heart goes out to those who lost a loved one. But I don’t feel the sympathy for America that comes every year at this time. Why not? Because I value every life the same, whether it’s an American life, a Palestinian life, a Jewish life, a Christian life or a Muslim life. I value humanity and it doesn’t matter if that human lives in Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa or America.
So, what does that mean?
That means that the Arabs and Muslims that have been killed in Lebanon, Gaza, and the West Bank are just as human as the 2,819 that died on American soil on 9-11.
That means that the 56,000 military plus 3,500 civilians – all Muslims – killed in Desert Storm were just as loved by their families as the 2,819 that died on 9-11.
That means that the 32,000 civilians killed in Afghanistan since 2001 were just as valued by their country as the 2,819 that died on 9-11.
That means that the 100,000 people who have died due to UN sanctions on Iraq were just as important as the 2,819 that died on 9-11.
Every death is equally important. No more. No less.
So, when we – Americans – speak of 9-11 as if that one incident started the war on terror or signaled the end of the world, those in other countries who know what terror really is and those who know what war and the end of the world really feels like because they live in it every day, wonder why we – Americans – can’t see the hypocrisy, the arrogance, the elitism and the national supremacy that is so obvious in how we look at what has been happening to them over many of their lifetimes compared to what happened to us on that one day – September 11, 2001.
When we, the most powerful country in the world, begin to value life – every life – as much as we value an American life, others will do the same. They will value American lives just as they value their own lives. Maybe then we can prevent another terror attack on American soil.Literally every day since September 11, 2001 - no matter where I am or what I’m... more

This story may not be going away for a long while.
New York Times columnist Paul Krugman lashed out at the commemoration of the 10 year anniversary of September 11th, labeling George W. Bush and Rudy Giuliani as "fake heroes."
On his "Conscience of a Liberal" blog Sunday morning, the Princeton economics professor didn't lack in showing any temerity in his comments that certainly will upset conservatives.
"What happened after 9/11 — and I think even people on the right know this, whether they admit it or not — was deeply shameful," he wrote. "Fake heroes like Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani, and, yes, George W. Bush raced to cash in on the horror. And then the attack was used to justify an unrelated war the neocons wanted to fight, for all the wrong reasons."
Krugman, who normally allows comments, also wrote that he wasn't going to allow comments under this post "for obvious reasons."

The House of Representatives Thursday passed a resolution commemorating the decennial of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.
The five-page resolution was introduced by Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) and in it the House vows to "never forget" the attacks.
"Whereas thousands of families have lost loved ones in the defense of freedom and liberty against the tyranny of terror; and Whereas the passage of ten years has not diminished the pain caused by the senseless loss of nearly 3,000 persons killed on September 11, 2001," the resolution reads in part.
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released a statement about the resolution.
“The resolution passed by the House also commends our military and intelligence officials who have performed so valiantly over the last 10 years, including those involved in the removal of Osama bin Laden," it reads in part. "The days ahead afford each of us an opportunity to reflect and renew our commitment to defend against all enemies this land we love and the firm principles on which it stands. We must continue to adapt and move forward, we must not yield, we must not grow complacent, and we must not rest until the terrorist threat is vanquished."
Members of Congress will be present at memorials in Shanksville, Penn., at the Pentagon and at the site of the Twin Towers in New York City. On Monday, members of Congress will hold a remembrance ceremony at the Capitol.
The resolution concludes with "When Congress adjourns today, it stands adjourned out of respect to the victims of the terrorist attacks."
"A Resolution to 'Never Forget' or a resolution to always use this event for Propaganda???"
"Funny how it would seem Eric Cantor, probably has better things to do, Umm lets see.... Like Helping the fallen heroes, that saved many lives and in doing so are now losing theirs??? Hmmm, I am very Curious!!!"By Kase Wickman Friday, September 9th, 2011 -- 4:04 pm The House of... more
“Where did my life go?” they think…
I’ve been thinking about all the Lost Boys lately. I see them all the time. You know the ones. Divinely talented carpenters out of work, their facebook pages full off hoo-rah and praise the troops loyalty. They are hunters, gardeners, fishermen… people who generally know how to live off the Earth, and in many ways are great conservationists because of it.“Where did my life go?” they think… I’ve been thinking... more
Look past the memory of the 911 event to the results, the repercussions, that the September 11 attack has had on America. Is America broken and splitting apart?
Isn't the Republican-Tea Party agenda painfully obvious as a race to make America into Mexico with right wing christian extremists as the new Brown shirts of violent repression?
How dumb are Americans? In 2010 elections, just 2 years after the Republican generated economic meltdown, Americans voted in more Republicans-Tea party candidates, the very ones responsible for the 2008 economic collapse.
There was a reason, a cause, for the September 11 attacks. What policy had America been pursuing that so angered at least a segment of Islamic believers to make the attack on the twin towers?
What has been the American history since 911 and what is the current state of the USA that is the reaction to September 11?Look past the memory of the 911 event to the results, the repercussions, that the... more
The publisher of an anti-Muslim children’s coloring book about the 9/11 attacks has called the FBI and the police to complain that Muslims, especially Muslim journalists, are calling him. Wayne Bell’s company, Really Big Coloring Books, Inc., “We Shall Never Forget 9/11 Coloring Book — Graphic Coloring Novel,” which “features images of Osama Bin Laden and Islamic terrorists. It also shows American citizens upset by the attacks, including a woman with a cross around her neck. But it shows no Muslim Americans mourning the attacks,” according to CBS News.
“These are people from Al-Jazeera that have called in here numerous times, people from Iranian TV, people from Palestinian Hamas TV,” Bell said, “A lot of people from the Islamic community have called in here and said increasingly negative things prior to the book being made and then after we made the book too, about the book itself.”
The Council on American Islamic Relations has criticized the book as one-sided, only portraying Muslims as either “extremists” or “terrorists. ”
Bell was asked to explain the absence of patriotic Muslim Americans in the book who were also opposed to the attacks.

John Devlin & Ken George, 9/11 first responders. Next month - our nation will honor the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Like previous years - there will be a special ceremony at Ground Zero in New York City - but this time - some people are not invited - the 9/11 first responders. This week - Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office confirmed that 9/11 first responders are not invited to the ceremony - and that the ceremony is specifically for the families of victims of 9/11. The statement from the mayor's office read, "While we are again focused on accommodating victims' family members, given the space constraints, we're working to find ways to recognize and honor first responders, and other groups, at different places and times." John Feal - the founder of an advocacy group for 9/11 first responders reacted to the Mayor's statement saying, "The best of the best that this country offered 10 years ago are being neglected and denied their rightful place."
Of course - this is just the latest slap in the face to 9/11 first responders. At the end of last year - Republicans finally dropped their filibuster against the James Zadroga Act which gave medical care 9/11 first responders who are now dying from the toxic debris they inhaled while working for months at ground zero recovering bodies at the site. Yet - just last month - the responders discovered a catch in the bill - that disqualifies them from receiving any medical care assistance for cancer cases - since according to the World Trade Center Health Program - there is no scientific link between ground zero debris and cancer. Tell that to the countless firefighters and policemen who worked at ground zero and now have throat and lung cancer. So why are we turning our backs on the first responders - some of the bravest men and women in the nation?

fraudulent individuals. Our cities are being
robbed of serious metered parking revenue to to
