The Los Angeles Times reports that: The attack on Rupert Murdoch with a shaving cream pie during a British parliamentary committee hearing in London on Tuesday may have been shocking, but it was far from unprecedented. In fact, the 80-year-old Murdoch joins a long list of prominent business, political and entertainment figures who have been involuntarily tarted up, such as it were, in public. And the man in custody — named in some reports as Jonathan May-Bowles, a.k.a. the Twitter handle Jonnie Marbles — has become the latest person to gain notoriety for throwing pies or pie-like substances in an apparent political act. He tweeted just before that “It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat.” (Among his other tweets is a shoutout to “The Simpsons,” on Murdoch’s very own Fox Network: ‘I’m actually in this committee and can confirm: Murdoch is Mr. Burns.”)

The Guardian reports on a number of papers, from both sides of the political spectrum, writing to Vince Cable about vetoing a take over of BskyB by News Corp. They say the take over would damage UKs media plurality if the £8bn take over took place.
"The letter, signed by Murdoch MacLennan, chief executive of Telegraph Media Group, Sly Bailey, chief executive of Trinity Mirror, owner of the Daily Mirror, and Andrew Miller, chief executive of Guardian Media Group, was sent to Cable today. The signatories argue against a combined Murdoch multimedia empire that would have a turnover of £7.5bn compared with the BBC's £4.8bn.

In a new interview with the Stig (Ben Collins) accused BBC worldwide of revealing his identity first by listing potential names in a Radio Times article two years ago. "but he said the Radio Times unmasking was a turning point: "It caused a huge question over whether I was viable any more." -Independent
In reply to the interview, a BBC spokesperson stated the interview with the accusations were published in a newspaper owned by the same company that owns the books publishers (News Corp). "It seems to have been designed simply to attempt to generate further sales."-Independent
So was this story ever about the Stig? or a brewing conflict between the two groups, which has been fuelled by two Edinburgh speeches.
""Funded by a hypothecated tax, the BBC feels empowered to offer something for everyone, even in areas well served by the market. The scope of its activities and ambitions is chilling."-Guardian
"Thompson also poured scorn on James Murdoch, who used last year's MacTaggart lecture to call the BBC "chilling" in its impact on the commercial sector. One of the biggest laughs of the night came when Thompson mocked the head of News Corp's European operations for attacking the British Library's plan to digitise its newspaper archive."-GuardianIn a new interview with the Stig (Ben Collins) accused BBC worldwide of revealing his... more

In a nutshell, Keith Olbermann of MSNBC and Bill O'Reilly of Fox have been going at it. For months, Olbermann's called the Fox host out for his lies and smears, regularly dubbing him "Worst Person in the World," while O'Reilly's raised questions about MSNBC's corporate owners, General Electric.
The on-air feud was good for ratings. It wasn't even bad journalism, for these kind of programs. Olbermann held Fox's O'Reilly to account for dubbing Dr. George Tiller "baby killer" in the run up to Tiller's assassination. O'Reilly sent a producer to a GE shareholder's meeting to raise questions about company business in Iran.
The feud wasn't bad for ratings, but it was perceived as a potential threat to other corporate interests. And so it was that some time this May, the chairman of General Electric (which owns MSNBC), and Rupert Murdoch, the chairman of News Corporation (which owns Fox News), were brought into a "summit meeting" for CEOs where Charlie Rose played peacemaker. In a nutshell, Keith Olbermann of MSNBC and Bill O'Reilly of Fox have been going... more
