"The WGA West has cleared Jay Leno of violating the guild's strike rules during the 100-day work stoppage in late 2007-early 2008.
The WGA West issued a message to members Tuesday evening detailing the decisions of the trial committees assembled to probe allegations brought by members of strike rule violations during the Nov. 5, 2007-Feb. 12, 2008 walkout. The guild took action against two members, only one of whom was named, and one non-member.
The decisions in the strike rule violation trials closes the book on the '07-08 strike for the WGA West as far as lingering guild business is concerned. It comes some 18 months after the end of the strike, and about a year before the guild gets ready for another round of undoubtedly tough contract talks with the majors in advance of the May 2011 expiration of its existing, hard-fought minimum basic agreement.
Leno was accused of violating guild rules against writing for struck companies when he returned as host of NBC's "The Tonight Show" in early January 2008 after going dark for two months after the strike ensued. Some members brought complaints against Leno for performing a nightly monologues during the six-week stretch when the show was produced sans writers.
Leno was questioned by a WGA West trial committee at length at least once in February (Daily Variety, Feb. 26). The committees consisted of five "rank-and-file" guild members, according to the WGA West. The final decisions on the penalties recommended by the committees were made by the WGA West's board of directors.
The guild said Tuesday that member Jon Maas was found guilty of "performing writing services during the strike on a one-hour pilot teleplay" and would be assessed a fine equal to 110% of the compensation he received for penning the pilot. Maas' WGA West membership will be suspended until the fine is paid.
Another member whose name was withheld was found guilty "of refusing to cooperate with the Strike Rules Compliance Committee in connection with an investigation of prohibited writing services alleged to have been performed on (a) film." The guild said the member would be "reprimanded" but did not elaborate.
David Hensley, a non member, was permanently barred from joining the WGA after having been found guilty of "writing and submitting scripts to a struck company for a daytime serial," the guild said.
Beyond those three cases, all other members accused of strike rule violations were found not guilty, the WGA West said. The guild did not specify how many members faced trial committee reviews.
Reps for Leno could not immediate be reached late Tuesday. ""The WGA West has cleared Jay Leno of violating the guild's strike rules... more

The Traveler
The traveler comes, the traveler goes,
in the wisps of silence he moves,
within solitude he is,
his cloak worn long with anonymity,
he passes through veils of fear
in to who he has become,
the fragrance of life is his to savor,
NOW,
a loneliness not so vague gnaws at ego,
bringing him to meet himself'
his only footing is the fresh unknown,
his pool of reflection,
the world his home,,,,,,,,,,

My experiance quite profound,
Now with words I shake the ground,
Red white and blue scroled acros my sleve,
These are the colors in which I bleed,
Test my friendship, Test my dred,
Either way the living will be fed,
But if it is dred you seek,
The back of your knees should feel week,
For we as Americans are heart and mind,
And with white light in dark places,
Peace we will find.

It looks like "Scrubs" might be back for more than we all thought! Apparently ABC has been working to pick up 18 episodes of the NBC comedy. The show, produced by ABC Studios for NBC [it's funny how that works in Hollywoodland] has at least a handful of episodes left to air on NBC, but NBC decided it would not pay for the episodes beyond the 5 it will air this Spring.
NBC has long shafted "Scrubs," constantly moving it around and changing the day and time the show aired and always making a question out of whether or not to renew the show. So I'm all for the show moving to a network that actually wants the show and appreciates it. Hopefully an 8th season on ABC will work out!It looks like "Scrubs" might be back for more than we all thought!... more

NBC's "Saturday Night Live," the only late-night show completely shelved by the writers' strike, is planning a Feb. 23 return now that the writers signed a contract agreement and are heading back to work. No guests or host have been announced for the return.
"It's been a long dry spell without `Saturday Night Live' on the air," said Rick Ludwin, head of late-night entertainment at NBC, on Tuesday. "They've been sitting on the sidelines watching all this happening in politics and the primaries. `SNL' thrives during an election year and they can't wait to get back on."

The Writers Guild of America moved swiftly Sunday toward a resolution of its three-month-old strike, with guild leaders deciding to recommend the contract to members and ask them to vote on a quick end to the walkout.
By asking writers to vote separately on ending the strike and accepting the contract, the union cleared the way for the entertainment industry to return to work almost immediately.
Membership meetings will be held Tuesday in New York and Los Angeles to allow writers to decide whether the strike should be brought to a speedy end, said Patric Verrone, president of the guild's West Coast branch.

Did you notice how well Mike Huckabee did last nite? Well, turns out a few different people are all claiming credit for his success. And apparently it's gotten ugly.
Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart went at it in a three-round bout on Monday nite, jumping from The Daily Show to The Colbert Report to Late Night in a mock feud over who was responsible for Huckabee's success.

Four major studios have canceled dozens of writers' contracts in a possible concession that the current television season cannot be saved, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
The move means the 2-month old writers strike may also endanger next season's new shows, the Times said.
January is usually the beginning of pilot season, when networks order new scripted shows. But the strike leaves networks without a pool of comedy and drama scripts from which to choose.
20th Century Fox Television, CBS Paramount Network Television, NBC Universal and Warner Bros. Television told the Times they have terminated development and production agreements.Four major studios have canceled dozens of writers' contracts in a possible... more

Both Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien will be back on the air starting January 2nd, whether or not the Writers Guild strike is over. It would mean putting on their shows without their writers, but apparently opposition from the Guild has eased on the late nite performers since they began paying the salaries of their non-writer staff members.
