The woman who led a group of 10 Baptists on a mission to help children in Haiti admits to failing to obtain paperwork needed to move 33 children to the Dominican Republic.
But even before Laura Silsby ended up in a Haitian jail accused of trafficking in children, she had a history of failing to pay debts, failing to pay her employees and failing even to follow Idaho laws.
Ms Silsby has been the subject of eight civil lawsuits and 14 unpaid wage claims. The $US358,000 ($408,000) Idaho house at which she founded her non-profit New Life Children's Refuge in November was foreclosed in December. A check of Ms Silsby's driving record revealed at least nine traffic infringement notices since 1997, including four for failing to provide insurance or register annually.
Ms Silsby is a longtime Idaho businesswoman. As chief executive of PersonalShopper.com, which she founded in 1999, she was named eWomenNetwork's international businesswoman of the year in 2006. An email circulated at PersonalShopper.com on Wednesday urged employees not to speak to the media.
Fourteen claims, including two by the same employee, were filed against Personal Shopper Inc for nonpayment of wages between March 14, 2008, and July 21, last year, according to the Idaho Department of Labour. Those claims led to nine liens against the firm. Five were appealed against, dismissed or dropped.
The business's former marketing director, Robin Oliver, filed a civil suit against Ms Silsby and Personal Shopper Inc in October for alleged unpaid wages, wrongful termination and fraud.
The suit says that Mr Oliver was promised an annual salary of $US110,000, with twice-monthly payments of $US4583.33. It alleges that Personal Shopper was delinquent on five payments, which total $22,016.65.
''In multiple emails during 2009, Ms Silsby repeatedly told plaintiff that she had investors 'committed', that the money was being 'wired', and that investors were going to be providing funds,'' the suit says.
Rasho has been placed on 10-years of felony probation after she completed a six month retained jurisdiction program - commonly known as a “rider” - where she got treatment at a Idaho Department of Correction facility.
Fourth District Judge Deborah Bail decided Monday to place Rasho on felony probation, instead of sending her back to prison, based on the information gathered during the rider process.
Rasho, who pleaded guilty to a charge of sex abuse of a child under the age of 16 in June, has to register as a sex offender and continue to undergo treatment as part of her 10-year probation, according to court records.
Police officials say Rasho lived in the boy’s neighborhood and the criminal conduct occurred in a Meridian residence. Police say they have evidence the inappropriate sexual relationship between Rasho and the teen began in September 2008.Rasho has been placed on 10-years of felony probation after she completed a six month... more
Xcorps #40.) HELLS CANYON -seg.1 HD- Shot in the wild Hells Canyon area of western Idaho along the Oregon border this rugged scenic and powerful Xcorps episode features on camera host Jason Lazo rocketing up class 4 rapids in a 600 HP custom jet-boat and catching a 9 foot 250 pound monster fish on a river called The Snake!
The wild clean outdoors fills the big screen in this show with the Xcams going wide to catch a gorge 2000 feet deeper than the Grand Canyon cut out by one of the longest and remote U.S. rivers all captured on HD tape for the XC viewer!
The show opens up with Jason near Whitebird Idaho-pop.150- dropping down to Pittsburg Landing in the Hells Canyon National Recreation area to meet with Eric Pardue from Killgore Adventures who provide jet boat river tours, hunting and fishing on the Snake and Salmon Rivers. This is wild outdoor adventures Xcorps style!
Jason takes off up river in a custom all aluminum Idaho made Bentz boat fitted with twin 350 V-8s that can handle the powerful big river whitewater with thrilling ease! It took our widest lenses to capture the spectacular scenery of the canyon and Jason did a great job of hosting from the rolling and pitching deck of the speeding boat named Moonshine as it powered up rapids with names like Wild Sheep and Granite Creek and Green Room! Music from SubNoiZe band Mower fits the action. Hang on! Great HD shots on board and looking down from riverside cliffs with not a building or sign of civilization to be seen. More cool music from Maverick Records artist Paul Oakenfold back the action with his song Time of Your Life! Nice.
After the break more shots from North Americas deepest river gorge paint the screen to music from Bible belt band Ha Ha Tonka c/o Bloodshot Records and RIVE with scenes from their band video -St.Nick on The Fourth in a Fervor- mixing it up with scenes of crystal streams, jagged peaks and raft runners heading downstream. All American good times!
After that its time to HOOK UP with some Idaho style fishing of the BIG STURGEON variety and Eric from Killgore Adventures knows just where to pull the boat over and cast the lines! Great UW Xcam shots here of swimming Steelhead showing off. Music from David Huber doing Haida sets the mood. Jason baits up a solid pound chunk of salmon belly on a barb-less hook and casts into a 70-foot deep hole in the river. As cameras rolled on cue he gets his Ugly Stick yanked and the reel starts screaming as the battle commences Ernest Hemingway XC style! The J man cranks and pulls hard for more than an hour with the fish leading the boat down 2 sets of raging rapids before finally giving up for a moment at the surface only to laugh showing its monstrous size and diving further working Jason into a full sweat! Fish band The Dorados throw out their song Hooked on Hookin Up for the good fit. Finally Jasons muscle wins out and the big fish is pulled ashore, and BIG it is! Eric calms the ocean size fish by flipping it upsidown before measuring it with a full size tape measure! At nine feet and 250 lbs the catch is considered a rare Snake River Hog! Before letting it go Jason talks with Eric about the Sturgeon fish, which is estimated at 100 plus years old! With a sore lip it swims back into the rivers depths leaving us with some breathtaking shots!

Every week for the past four years the Privacy Rights Clearing House has been chronicling data breaches on a weekly basis. “These are the mega-breaches that can skew the figures in terms of the number of people victimized,” says Paul Stephens, PRCH’s director of policy and advocacy. Here are the ten biggest, most damaging and most embarrassing breaches to date this year.
Forget about vampires, ghouls and zombies. You were much more likely to receive a fright this year from something lurking in your e-mail. There were the usual crop of Trojan horses and phishing expeditions, and as the surprising list points out, some of the scares go all the way up to White House and the FBI.
Chad Hardy is, above all things apparently, an entrepreneur. When Hardy started selling the unexpectedly popular "Men on a Mission" calendar, featuring Mormon beefcakes recently returned from church-required missions, he suffered the consequences.
Not only did the Mormon stronghold of Brigham Young University deny Hardy's degree a month after he participated in the graduation ceremony, but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) full-on excommunicated him. That's no small thing in a church that encourages followers to disconnect from wayward family members. But did Chad Hardy repent and try to get back into the church's good graces? Nope. He just got cracking on another hot calendar idea -- this time featuring the female side of the church.
Hardy's new calendar, "Hot Mormon Muffins: A Taste of Motherhood," features LDS women in sexy pin-up style poses celebrating both their outer beauty and their family values by including favorite recipes for tasty muffins. There's no way he's not going to make money on this thing. And obviously the church is not going to be amused.
The Associated Press reports that church spokesperson Kim Farah declined to comment on the new calendar Monday. But if the church was angry enough to excommunicate Hardy, it would appear likely that the 12 moms (ranging in age from 26 to 53) appearing in "Hot Mormon Muffins" will have to watch out.
At least one of the models has already expressed her defiance. Tami Roberts, 35, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, said she did the calendar, in part, because she wants her 3 daughters to "know that everybody is not the same and it's OK to make your own choices." Roberts read about the "Men on a Mission" calendar last year, and decided that she wanted to be a part of the new project after reading about Hardy's punishment.
"That made me mad, I did not agree with that," the cover model said. "The pictures are tasteful, and it's fun. I don't see why people can't have a sense of humor. I just don't think it's a big deal."Chad Hardy is, above all things apparently, an entrepreneur. When Hardy started... more
