From bare knuckle to bare everything: the 102 thrillseekers strip off to take their seats on the Green Scream, Essex rollercoaster at Southend-on-Sea to break the naked rollercoaster world record, reports Daily Telegraph (UK).
Organisers were hoping they had broken a new record after 32 attempted the same feat in 2004 at Alton Towers, in Staffordshire.
Organiser Tracy Jones said: “We wanted to raise as much money as possible for this brilliant charity and give everybody who was brave enough, the chance to be part of the world record. Consequently, we had to run the Naked Rollercoaster three times.”
Senior Fundraising Manager at Bosom Pals, Barbara Warner said: “It takes a lot of nerve to take off all your clothes in front of 102 complete strangers, plus the world’s media.”

Card stacking. It’s a tedious process requiring heavy concentration, a delicate touch and patience, patience, patience. After countless man hours and attention to detail one careless move, a sneeze or strong vibration could send everything crashing down. Luckily, card stacker Bryan Berg doesn’t seem to have those problems. He currently holds the world record for constructing the largest house of free-standing playing cards.

When digging through stories to feature in 'Current Stories' on Current.com, I often come across stories that you may have been overshadowed by bigger news items of the day. Take today for example, several stories were bubbling around just under the layer of Marvel/Disney buyout news and updates regarding the LA wildfires. Here are a few of those stories, with a little more context. Hope you enjoy.
The hatred continues
A new study reports that 60% of black and African citizens living in Moscow have been victim to racially motivated physical assaults. Additionally, 80% attested to being verbally assaulted as well.
The report concludes that Africans in Russia "exist in a state of virtual siege" caused by extremely violent acts. They avoid the metro, crowded public places, and stay home during Russian national holidays.
Back in 2007, Christof Putzel of Vanguard chronicled the hatred stemming from neo-Nazi groups in Russia towards outsiders and immigrants in 'From Russia, With Hate.' If you haven't had a chance to see it, please do.

Game winning goal
The words "World Record Holder" may not seem synonymous with Mexico, but today brings news of two instances where the connection is totally warranted. Our first story involves reports of Mexico's growing obesity problem, an issue being attributed to changing dietary habits and lifestyles across the border.
The epidemic is being met head-on with an anti-obesity campaign aimed at raising awareness, luring people away from fatty foods, and getting them more physically active. Here's where world records come into play. I've seen a lot of awareness campaigns come and go in my day, but never before have I come across one that involves the largest public dance routine to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller.'
But wait, the record-breaking didn't stop there. In a story that is completely unrelated to obesity issues, yet another world record has been credited to Mexico -- this time for the biggest mariachi band in the world.
Kudos, Mexico. You win.
Others worth noting
Wikipedia has decided to color code potentially untrustworthy text on articles in an effort to improve quality and credibility. What's your take? How much impact does a color coded line of text actually have?
A student left his camera on a mountaintop. As it turns out, those who came across the camera took photos of themselves, and when it was finally returned to him he had a collection of photos to document this experiment in honesty.

Jamaica's own Usain Bolt should be renamed INsane Bolt for the way he runs. He is quite literally the worlds fastest human. After setting a new worlds record in the 100m dash he followed by obliterating the existing record for the 200m race. In his 19.19 sec. performance he beat the old record by an astonishing 11 sec. Even more amazing he did it running into a slight head wind. Taking the lead five strides into the race he stood alone at the finish with no one else even in sight. I'm sure if this wasn't the age of digital photography they'd have trouble capturing his image - he's THAT fast.Jamaica's own Usain Bolt should be renamed INsane Bolt for the way he runs. An attempt to set off a world record 110,000 fireworks in under 60 seconds failed miserably in Bournemouth. Instead of going off as planned, the barge carrying the fireworks appeared to blow up and burst into flames.
No rockets shot into the skies and just six seconds in, the whole thing crashed and burned. Around 175,000 who had turned up to watch the Roar on the Shore left disappointed and faced severe delays in getting home.
Ruth Downing took some pleasure in seeing the flaming barge: "It looked like the barge just exploded and then caught fire. It was very disappointing not so much a roar as a growl. We thought it would be rockets exploding in the sky in this amazing fireworks display, but instead if you blinked you would have missed it. It was just a big bang, a blinding flash and then flames. That was probably the most exciting bit because it looked like the barge was on fire."

Last year Russia set the World Record for the number of women photographed wearing bikinis in one place (yeah, it's a real thing), and this weekend Britain made its attempt to break it.
However, of the 1,924 women needed to break this record, only 42 showed up at the beach in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Bad weather and more forecast is being put down as the reason.
Fail. Surely Britain is used to rubbish summer weather by now?!Last year Russia set the World Record for the number of women photographed wearing... more
