Nearly a dozen explosions were heard in a Watertown neighborhood where suspect number 2 in the Boston Marathon bombings was believed to have been shot.
FOX 25's Bob Ward reported that he heard eight to 10 explosions in the area of 67 Franklin Street about 20 minutes after gunfire erupted in the neighborhood. It was believed that police had shot and wounded Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the man known as suspect 2 in the Boston Marathon bombings.
Ward, citing sources, said that Tsarnaev was still alive after the shootings and could be seen moving via a State Police helicopter's infrared camera inside of a boat. He was surrounded and was refusing to come out of the boat.
It was not known if he had been killed in the explosions. He was believed to have already been injured in a shootout with police overnight. A Franklin Street resident, Evan Goodman, told FOX 25 that neighbors notified authorities that someone may be in the boat after they saw blood coming from it Friday evening.
FOX 25's Jarrod Holbrook reported that Tsarnaev was seen in a boat with a canvas cover. He was reportedly poking holes in the canvas.
Holbrook reported hearing the shots being fired in rapid succession, "like a roll of firecrackers" shortly after a "Shelter in Place" order had been lifted in Boston and its surrounding area.
Neighbors said they had just gone out for the first time all day when gunfire broke out.
"We were walking just to the corner of Russell Avenue and heard all this gunfire, and we just flew across the street and lo and behold there was all this gunfire right there," said Mary Sullivan.
Police were seen rushing children out of the area at one point.
A bomb squad robot had been deployed at the scene to check the boat for explosives. Tsarnaev's brother, Tamerlan, was found with an improvised explosive device when he was killed following a shootout with police overnight Friday.
SWAT teams, sharpshooters, FBI agents, and police took command of the tense and locked-down streets of Boston and its suburbs Friday in an all-out hunt for the 19-year-old Tsarnaev.
The two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing killed an MIT police officer and hurled explosives at police in a car chase and gun battle overnight Thursday that left Tamerlan dead and Dzhokhar on the run.
Officials said Dzhokhar fled the Watertown scene on foot.

I’m not offering any of this as evidence of what you should be speculating. Far from it. We’re all better off reserving judgment until we have hard evidence to work with. Still, I admit to having some ideas of my own and I’ll be honest – if this turns out to be the work of Islamists I’ll be very, very surprised. Another colleague, Russ Wellen, raises the possibility that Islamists could have picked Patriots’ Day to cover their tracks, but that strikes me as unlikely. That breed of terrorist has a history of wanting credit for their actions.
My point, instead, is to question the pig-headedness of those who assume the attackers were Muslims. We’re not dealing with a situation in which there’s no symbolic context. On the contrary, there’s plenty of symbolic context and it all points directly away from foreign agents.I’m not offering any of this as evidence of what you should be speculating. Far... more
Judged by the media coverage, it is hard not to conclude that western lives are valued much more highly than those of people in Afghanistan, Iraq or the Middle East.
By Lindsey German
April 16, 2013 "Information Clearing House" -"Stop The War" - The bombing in Boston is a tragedy, and everyone should condemn the actions of people who have destroyed the lives of people enjoying themselves watching the marathon.
But last week in Afghanistan a US airstrike killed eleven children and several women. This Afghan bombing is only one of many that are killing civilians every week.
In Iraq bombs go off in crowded areas regularly. A wave of bombings across the country yesterday left at least 75 Iraqis dead.
And in Syria too, there is a daily repetition of carnage that is killing countless civilians.
Judged by the media coverage, it is hard not to conclude that western lives are valued much more highly than those of people in Afghanistan or the Middle East, and that bombs in the middle of major US cities are regarded as more newsworthy than those in the Afghan countryside or in Baghdad.
When commentators and journalists empathise with the victims of the Boston bomb, many will wonder why they give hardly a passing thought for those other victims who were also caught in the middle of their everyday lives, enjoying themselves in the sunshine, shopping in markets or celebrating weddings.
The general rule seems to be 'out of sight, out of mind'.
But the mayhem wreaked by western intervention in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and elsewhere is not out of the minds of the millions who witness it and live with it every day. Nor is it forgotten by those in the west who opposed these policies and predicted they would create more terrorism, not less.
It is unclear who was responsible for the Boston bombs, with the reports suggesting either a group from the Middle East, or home grown right wing extremists marking Patriot Day.
That hasn't stopped right wing commentators (step forward Fox News' commentator) from blaming the Muslims and from Muslims worldwide expressing fears that this new attack would lead to further scapegoating and racism towards them.
Terrorism is now routinely blamed on Muslims even though most Muslims are as horrified by such attacks as anyone else. And even though the most serious terror attack in Europe in recent years was from a right wing extremist in Norway trying to advance his anti immigration and anti Muslim agenda.
Whatever the truth about this latest bombing, the continued refusal to acknowledge the widespread grievances against the US and its allies caused by the wars and US policies in the Middle East will lead to turmoil until political solutions are found.

'Hours before Hamas strongman Ahmed Jabari was assassinated, he received the draft of a permanent truce agreement with Israel, which included mechanisms for maintaining the ceasefire in the case of a flare-up between Israel and the factions in the Gaza Strip. This, according to Israeli peace activist Gershon Baskin, who helped mediate between Israel and Hamas in the deal to release Gilad Shalit and has since then maintained a relationship with Hamas leaders...
Baskin told Haaretz on Thursday that senior officials in Israel knew about his contacts with Hamas and Egyptian intelligence aimed at formulating the permanent truce, but nevertheless approved the assassination.
"He was in line to die, not an angel and not a righteous man of peace," Baskin said of Jabari and of his feelings in the wake of the killing, “but his assassination also killed the possibility of achieving a truce.''Hours before Hamas strongman Ahmed Jabari was assassinated, he received the... more
An Iranian Islamist group has raised the bounty on Salman Rushdie's head from $2.8 million to $3.3 million. I wonder if I made a crappy film about me cutting off Rushdie's head if these cavedwellers would in turn hand over the money. I think they should. I think Salman should help me out and after I recieve the funds he can turn back up again. I certainly am not afraid of any reprisals from terrorists coming to get me back in the hills of B.C. They would stick out like a sore thumb where I come from.

Are you suspicious of federal authority? How about really into individual liberty? Well according to a new study funded by the US Department of Homeland Security, you very well might be a terrorist.
A report published earlier this year by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the University of Maryland has surfaced, and in their DHS-funded findings, Americans “reverent of individual liberty” and others adamant about protecting their personal freedoms are categorized as extreme right-wing terrorists.
In the paper, Hot Spots of Terrorism and Other Crimes in the United States, 1970-2008, researchers used definitions from another START study, 2011’s Profiles of Perpetrators of Terrorism, to characterize what traits should be considered when describing right-wing terrorists. Both papers were funded with grants from the US Department of Homeland Security provided to START.
Although the authors of the paper note that the study’s findings do not necessarily represent the opinions of START of the DHS, the website PrisonPlanet.com notes that the organization was started with the aid of $12 million of Homeland Security funds. The latest report is described by its authors as the latest part in a series of studies sponsored by the Human Factors/Behavioral Sciences Division, Science and Technology Directorate and the US Department of Homeland Security in support of the Counter-IED Prevent/Deter program.
“The goal of this program is to sponsor research that will aid the intelligence and law enforcement communities in identifying potential terrorist threats,” write the authors, which is done “using state-of-the-art theories, methods and data from the social and behavioral sciences to improve understanding of the origins, dynamics and social and psychological impacts of terrorism.”
Apparently, loving America is precisely one of those factors found out through the latest space-age understanding of the human mind.
In explaining how START’s earlier study categorized terrorists in groups such as religious, ethno-nationalist and extreme left-wing, researchers recall that the organization considers right-wing extremists terrorists as “groups that believe that one’s personal and/or national ‘way of life’ is under attack and is either already lost or that the threat is imminent (for some the threat is from a specific ethnic, racial, or religious group) and believe in the need to be prepared for an attack either by participating in paramilitary preparations and training or survivalism.”
“Groups may also be fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation), anti-global, suspicious of centralized federal authority, reverent of individual liberty and believe in conspiracy theories that involve grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty,” the report adds.

Member States of NATO and the GCC are preparing a coup d’état and a sectarian genocide in Syria. If you want to prevent these crimes, you should act now: circulate this article on the Internet and alert your elected officials. In a few days, perhaps as early as Friday, June 15, at noon, the Syrians wanting to watch their national TV stations will see them replaced on their screens by TV programs created by the CIA. Studio-shot images will show massacres that are blamed on the Syrian Government, people demonstrating, ministers and generals resigning from their posts, President Al-Assad fleeing, the rebels gathering in the big city centers, and a new government installing itself in the presidential palace. This operation of disinformation, directly managed from Washington by Ben Rhodes, the US deputy national security adviser for strategic communication, aims at demoralizing the Syrians in order to pave the way for a coup d’etat. NATO, discontent about the double veto of Russia and China, will thus succeed in conquering Syria without attacking the country illegally. Whichever judgment you might have formed on the actual events in Syria, a coup d’etat will end all hopes of democratization. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/recent-news/43072-urgent-nato-preparing-vast-disinformation-campaign-in-syriaMember States of NATO and the GCC are preparing a coup d’état and a... more

In this startling new memoir, Sibel Edmonds—the most classified woman in U.S. history—takes us on a surreal journey that begins with the secretive FBI and down the dark halls of a feckless Congress to a stonewalling judiciary and finally, to the national security whistleblowers movement she spearheaded. Having lived under Middle East dictatorships, Edmonds knows firsthand what can happen when government is allowed to operate in secret. Hers is a sobering perspective that combines painful experience with a rallying cry for the public's right to know and to hold the lawbreakers accountable. With U.S. citizens increasingly stripped of their rights in a calibrated media blackout, Edmonds' story is a wake-up call for all Americans who, willingly or unwillingly, traded liberty for illusive security in the wake of 9/11.
