Fleshing out a popular Roald Dahl story, Wes Anderson has fashioned an extraordinary animated film version of the author’s Fantastic Mr. Fox. Utilizing traditional stop-motion technique with actual three dimensional figures, he has crafted a work which instantly stands with some of the finest cinematic fare for children -- as well as the adults that must accompany them to the theater.

The Men Who Stare at Goats has the loopy feel of a sketch that seems plainly hilarious in the evening’s alcohol -- or other inebriant -- haze, but is oddly inert the morning after. However, because the concept still amused George Clooney (and consequently his production company) in the light of day, it was enough for some in Hollywood to stand at attention.
Sadly, unless you have some leftover snacks from the last time you enjoyed a viewing of Harold and Kumar, it is unlikely that a rucksack of chuckles awaits you on this one. The script is not nearly as clever, sharp or quirkily ironic as it would like to think it is. Nor are the filmmakers daring enough to push the material in more absurd directions, or pull it along with a buoyant brusqueness.

Days before it's world premiere, a fun fact about Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox comes up: Anderson directed a majority of the stop-motion animated film via email and video sent to the animators.
Certainly it may not be the best situation, but not exactly groundshaking when the amount of time animators need vs the sum total of the director's input is needed.Days before it's world premiere, a fun fact about Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox... more

"I would rather have a rectal examination on live TV by a fellow with cold hands than have a Facebook page." -- George Clooney during this afternoon's Up In The Air press conference, which I stepped into just long enough to take this video. It began at 1:30 -- it's now 2:55 pm. The press conference attendees also included costars Jason Bateman, Anna Kendrick, Vera Farmiga and director-writer Jason Reitman.

btw this video doesn't show George saying that quote on camera, but at least it gives an idea of what a press conference at the Toronto Film Festival is like."I would rather have a rectal examination on live TV by a fellow with cold hands than... more
Good Night, And Good Luck. looks at the early years of television and journalism principles; specifically the on-air clash in the 1950's between Edward R. Murrow of CBS and Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin. With an outstanding cast, including McCarthy himself through archival footage, this film comes alive with intense emotion while depicting the historical See It Now shows and journalism integrity.Good Night, And Good Luck. looks at the early years of television and journalism... more

Click the link at top to watch the trailer for ‘Armored’, (Spoiler Alert – the trailer is the entire film, presented in a linear and condensed format). Then watch the 'Up in the Air' trailer embedded above.
See the difference?
I have a fond memories as a kid attending a 5 hour trailer marathon at the old UC Theatre in Berkeley. Each trailer, almost without exception, tried to do something, something exciting, something novel, something to get you to see the picture: without showing you the whole g*ddam* film.
When did the art form of crafting interesting, intelligent, humorous, sly, novel, witty, unexpected, chilling, thrilling trailers die? When did it become such a lost art that the ‘Up in the Air’ trailer stands out so? Answers in the form of a comment please.
