BMW have yet again produced another concept design, this time taking us a little further in the future of transportation.
The Simple is a form of transport designed to make driving as easy as possible, hence the name. Its physics allow it to tilt automatically when going around bends, giving the identical sensation of riding a wave with a surfboard. The car-bike hybrid hosts a two-seat interiro, where both driver and passenger -- who sit one behind the other -- can enjoy 120 miles to the gallon.
No higher than a Beamer 5-Series and shorter than a Mini Cooper, The Simple is likely to change how BMW produce their future car models and influence the physics of car mechanics.BMW have yet again produced another concept design, this time taking us a little... more

Around 500 passengers were stuck in the tunnel under the English Channel for six hours after their train broke down.
With no light and no air conditioning, the temperatures on the train soared to 30c. Bottled water ran out and the toilets stopped working.
Paramedics were sent down the service tunnel to check on the passengers and trains were stopped in both directions while a rescue train arrived to pull the broken-down one out.
Mr Davis, from Essex, said: 'When the lights went out a few people lost the plot and were crying. We had kids fainting, one diabetic woman passed out. Guards were handing out water to start with but it ran out. What annoyed people most was the fact nobody was telling us anything.'Around 500 passengers were stuck in the tunnel under the English Channel for six hours... more
Underground stations in Sao Paulo, Brazil are being fitted with special enlarged seats to accommodate obese people.
The blue chairs are nearly twice as wide as the normal chairs and can support up to 40 stone without breaking.
The seats are accompanied by signs picturing a rotund customer with the words "Priority chair for obese people".
The seats have been installed in an attempt to encourage larger people to use public transport. Ever had that problem of your flabby rolls spilling over the side of your chair? Well no I don't suppose many have but for those who have look, solution!
These wider chairs are nearly double the with of your average underground chair and can support 550lb......damn.
These new seats in Sao Paulo, Brazil are supposedly being ignored by the larger folk as they feel ashamed to sit in them. A sign above each seat shows a cartoon of a roly-poly passenger saying "Priority chair for obese people." "It may be that they don't want to think of themselves as fat or they resent being put in with pensioners and the disabled," said one manager.

Get the ultimate adrenaline rush with the LOOP-IN surf-skating transportation system. Although curently at the concept stage of design, this device will provide its user with the dual sensation of riding a surfboard and skating at the same time.
The wheels are able to rotate on many surfaces, while the inner plate inside the wheels, moves independantly. The movement of the inner plate mimics the sensation of pushing by a wave (see images at the link).Get the ultimate adrenaline rush with the LOOP-IN surf-skating transportation system.... more

The sphere wheel at the front is controlled by an engine connected to an internal system that recognizes each of the driver's steering movements.

I have never heard about this, but it seems that Russian engineers had been trying ,for almost four decades, to produce the Super String Transportation System.
This new vision for transport was to replace the traditional modes of getting around, by suspending cars from thin wires -- virtually invisible to the naked-eye -- which would carry these cars around at up to speeds of 300mph.
The idea behind it is undoubtedly futuristic, however I believe the designers were thinking too far ahead. There are various images of the concept at the link.I have never heard about this, but it seems that Russian engineers had been trying... more
I saw this bike a few days ago, and thought that it was definitely something different as far as transportation-design. The link above is to a blog, which features pictures of the BauBike from various angles. It's got a modern look, with a classy, sophisticated touch. Not much more I can say about it that hasn't already been said on the BauBike's official website:
"The BauBike is inspired by Bauhaus design. It is constructed around the geometric shape of the square and the equilateral triangle. The design is stripped down to clean lines and raw material.
The open-end piece above the back wheel, offers the possibility to customize the function of the bike to whatever need you may have. The different accessories can be placed in the tube and can easily be changed if needed.
The design follows a set of formal rules, limiting the geometry to straight lines in a pattern of 60 and 90 degree angles in proportions following the principle of the golden section.
By limiting the form with a fixed set of design rules and stepping away from the traditional function-oriented approach to the design process, this project transcends the border between design and art, raising fundamental questions about the nature of the bike as design and as a lifestyle accessory and introducing a much needed playfulness on the bicycle scene.
The BauBike is a bike for the modern urban society where adaptability is a necessity."I saw this bike a few days ago, and thought that it was definitely something different... more
