Tell CBS News: Don't Legitimize Discredited Fringe Groups
We find ourselves in the odd position of needing to convince CBS News not to legitimize a viciously anti-gay, widely discredited, birther organization.
Accuracy In Media (AIM) recently announced that it will be giving its annual award to Sharyl Attkisson, a CBS News journalist, at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference. Now don’t let the name fool you, Accuracy In Media is not remotely concerned with accuracy and is actually a fringe group. AIM’s record includes:

In the wake of a string of gay teen suicides, AIM attacked anti-bullying efforts, arguing that it was straight kids who were actually the victims of gay bullies citing "lesbian gangs assaulting innocent girls;" AIM was also a staunch defender of Uganda's 'Kill The Gays' legislation.

AIM is a birther organization that, in spite of all evidence to the contrary, feeds the right-wing lie that President Obama was not born in the United States.

AIM also peddles climate science misinformation, claiming that global warming is a "fraud" and even challenging the scientific fact that carbon dioxide is a "planet-heating pollutant."

Now to be clear, we’re not making hay merely because AIM named a CBS News journalist as a recipient of this award. After all, CBS can’t control what another organization does, let alone a fringe group. We didn’t expect CBS News to treat AIM or this award seriously, let alone attend CPAC to accept it.

But yesterday, other news outlets began wondering about this award and asked CBS about it. CBS glossed over AIM’s despicable record and simply stated that its "journalists are regularly honored by a broad spectrum of organizations..." Adding insult to injury, it was subsequently confirmed that Attkisson will accept the award "in person" and deliver an 8-10 minute speech at the extreme right-wing CPAC gathering.
Of note and concern, CBS' Attkisson will be the first reporter from a mainstream network to receive the award. Attkisson’s co-recipient this year is a Breitbart blogger and past recipients include Andrew Breitbart and Michelle Malkin.
By showing up to accept the award, CBS News lends credence to an otherwise discredited fringe organization and helps pave the way for wider acceptance of AIM when just the opposite should be the case.

HUMAN RIGHTS INVESTIGATIONS ON CRIMES OF OBAMA AND HIS NATO IN LIBYA

HRI is an evidence-based, independent and rigorous investigation of human rights abuses. HRI investigated and published on its website a number objective and thorough human rights investigations on the crimes committed in Libya by the Islamists rebels against prisoners of war, African workers, and Libyan civilians. These horrific atrocities were executed with direct military and political support and directions from Obama and his NATO mercenaries which included: Sarkozy; Cameroon; and Al-Thani (of Qatar). These persons and states must be brought to national and international justice and pay for their horrendous crimes.

The main reports are:
1- Responsibility to protect: the liberation of Sirte;

[The rebels, described in NATO circles as a ‘proxy army” were allowed by NATO to indiscriminately shell the town with tank fire, heavy mortar fire and artillery. Here is some footage from the ‘Information Office of the Misrata Mujahid Battalion’ to illustrate the point]

[In what should be the final death-blow to the notion that NATO air power combined with undisciplined and in some cases genocidal mobs supplied with NATO weaponry on the ground can effectively ‘protect’ a civilian population it has become clear that fifty-three people were summarily executed by the rebels in the garden of the Mahari hotel in Sirte. ]

2- Colonel Gaddafi captured and killed;

[Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi was reportedly captured and shot dead 20 October. As the evidence below shows the Libyan leader and his son Mutassim were summarily executed by the rebels, sharing the fate of so many Libyans in this conflict.]

[Muammar’s son, Mutassim Gaddafi was captured at the same time as his father and video shows him still alive after capture, drinking water and smoking a cigarette]

[On the death of Mutassim the Mahmoud Jibril said: “As for Mutassim there is a wound in the head and a break in the skull and five bullets in the back and one in the neck.”]
3- Sarkozy, Cameron, Obama, Al-Thani and the suffering of the children of Sirte;

[The horrific video below shows a 1 minute slice of the horror visited upon Sirte, where little children are being mutilated, killed and Libya’s future destroyed in the interests of the war-mongers, the egos of NATO leaders, the profits of arms companies and improved access to Libyan resources.

The footage from Ibn Sina hospital in Sirte is an indictment of the western political class, wedded to militarism and war, funded by arms companies, protected by a war-mongering media and oblivious to the consequences of their policies. Indeed, this video was filmed hot on the heels of Sarkozy and Cameron celebrating the rebel ‘victory’ in Benghazi at the site of the lynchings of black men in that city.]

Military given go-ahead to detain US terrorist suspects without trial.

Civil rights groups dismayed as Barack Obama abandons commitment to veto new security law contained in defence bill.

Americans can be arrested on home soil and taken to Guantánamo Bay under a provision inserted into the bill that funds the US military.

Barack Obama has abandoned a commitment to veto a new security law that allows the military to indefinitely detain without trial American terrorism suspects arrested on US soil who could then be shipped to Guantánamo Bay.

Human rights groups accused the president of deserting his principles and disregarding the long-established principle that the military is not used in domestic policing. The legislation has also been strongly criticised by libertarians on the right angered at the stripping of individual rights for the duration of "a war that appears to have no end".

The law, contained in the defence authorisation bill that funds the US military, effectively extends the battlefield in the "war on terror" to the US and applies the established principle that combatants in any war are subject to military detention.

The legislation's supporters in Congress say it simply codifies existing practice, such as the indefinite detention of alleged terrorists at Guantánamo Bay. But the law's critics describe it as a draconian piece of legislation that extends the reach of detention without trial to include US citizens arrested in their own country.

"It's something so radical that it would have been considered crazy had it been pushed by the Bush administration," said Tom Malinowski of Human Rights Watch. "It establishes precisely the kind of system that the United States has consistently urged other countries not to adopt. At a time when the United States is urging Egypt, for example, to scrap its emergency law and military courts, this is not consistent."
