Gazing at the Colosseum in moonlight can make for a romantic date. Soon tourists will be able to stroll inside the ancient arena on Saturday nights for a limited time only.
Rome officials announced on Friday that for seven straight Saturdays starting Aug. 21, visitors can tour the Colosseum with an archaeologist. They will enter in groups of 40 people maximum from 9 p.m. till midnight.
Normally, the monument is open only during daytime, but last summer also saw some nighttime tours.

For the first time after 40 years the undergroud of Colosseum will open again. Since August the third order of the Flavian Amphitheatre will be opened, too, so it will be possibile to look at the city of Rome from above. Until September it will be possible to visit the Colosseum until midnight on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The Colosseum was lit up Monday night to celebrate a senate vote in the American state of Montana to abolish the death penalty. The initiative, in collaboration with the city of Rome, is repeated every time a death sentence is commuted or capital punishment abolished anywhere in the world.
