The original tenants of Liddonfield Housing Project in Northeast Philadelphia were predominantly white, two parent households. Where did Liddonfield's white working families go? This part in the series explains how the real estate lobby and government mandated redlining imposed forced evictions of working white two parent households in Liddonfield and other housing projects in the US. Most people think that whites willingly left public housing as they became successful. Some did, but many were forcibly evicted and then given a government-backed FHA mortgage loan.
Special interests and public policy makers had a hand in the gradual deterioration of housing projects, including Liddonfield. Neighborhoods like Upper Holmesburg in Philadelphia's Far Northeast and project tenants were left struggling with the consequences as their quality of life diminished and drug dealers tried to take over the neighborhood.

Saturday, December 1st, is World AIDS Day 2012, an annual opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against the devastating AIDS pandemic. It is a day for commemorating the 30 million people who have been lost to AIDS-related causes, to honor the 34 million people presently living with HIV and to recommit ourselves to creating a future without AIDS. From 2011 to 2015, World AIDS Day has the theme, “Getting to zero: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS-related deaths.”
This piece includes a number of photographs, the documentary “30 Years From Here,” the 1993 docudrama “And The Band Played On” and a music video.

When we as a nation need more money to pay the bills where do we get the money? Does anyone benefit from this endless borrowing? If so, who do you suppose that is?
Before I go any further let me confirm what you probably already know, “debt is the total amount of money that a country (or company) owes. Deficit is the amount that a country (or company) loses each year.”When we as a nation need more money to pay the bills where do we get the money? Does... more

“Over the past 35 years, the [US Supreme] court has twice ruled that race may be one of many factors in determining college admissions, as long as there are no racial quotas. Now, just nine years after its last decision, the justices seem poised to outright reverse or cut back on the previous rulings.
This time, the question is whether any sort of affirmative action program can be adopted on top of a race-neutral system that has produced at least some significant increase in campus diversity.“Over the past 35 years, the [US Supreme] court has twice ruled that race may be... more

Week one of early voting is now history. Early in the week I visited a centrally located early voting site. It’s one with which I am familiar. I went there to pick up a sample ballot. I needed the sample ballot for my mother. I wanted for her to have it to study on before voting later in the week. There were many people in line waiting to vote. It was a long line of racially and ethnically mixed would-be voters. The majority were Anglo-Saxon and Teutons.Week one of early voting is now history. Early in the week I visited a centrally... more

So now Anglo-Saxons, Teutons, white people, the egregiously racist and oppressive, one age-old bastion of segregation, and one white woman, Abigail Fisher, playing the (white) woman scorned suddenly, “got religion?” Wait, are those refrains of “We shall overcome” I hear in the background? Does it get any more hypocritical? Ridiculous? Obvious? So now Anglo-Saxons, Teutons, white people, the egregiously racist and oppressive, one... more

Well, I’ve been challenged to write a proposal for my entry into The Government By The People Website Contest (which I invented by-the-way). So for today, I made a crude graphic of what a front page might look like. I’m certainly encouraging people to make use of this and get involved in the design and take over the project as they see fit. But I’ll add more later and try and help YOU THE PUBLIC with the daunting task of taking over the Government in a safe and sane manner. But please remember…if YOU get involved…I can get back to doing more drugs and alcohol (just kidding!!)Well, I’ve been challenged to write a proposal for my entry into The Government... more

Well “it’s all over but the crying.”
But don’t worry you’ll have plenty of time to do the crying---over the next four years, and in the case of the new US senator six, at least locally, statewide and nationally respectively. The compassionate conservative Christians of Texas red have spoken and it is a mean-spirited and hateful “Tea Party” speak.Well “it’s all over but the crying.”

Texas red is a very, very conservative former slave state that just can’t seem to shake loose of the fact.
Texas is also a state whose majority population is still the Anglo-Saxon. That makes it difficult for anyone not “conservative enough” to run a viable campaign for office---at least statewide. There are a few pockets that differ but only by virtue of the fact that those few are a little less conservative.
Basically those of us in the state who are lucid, rational and tolerant have choices at the polls just not very good ones. Those choices vary from luke warm and way out gunned Democrats to the usual variety of racist GOPer to the now GOPers on steroids the Tea Partyers. In other words three right of center choices for public office.Texas red is a very, very conservative former slave state that just can’t seem... more

I was reminded by the intrepid staffers/advisers of this publication that if I wish to be compensated, however little, I need to publish something under the banner of “elections.” Staffers even sent me a story about another examiner who happens to have over 6000 subscribers! Gee it almost makes me wish I cared how the pets are doing and all the cute nonsense that goes with them and then blogged about it. Right.
Be that as it may, here you go.I was reminded by the intrepid staffers/advisers of this publication that if I wish to... more

Ever wonder what the source of the obvious enmity between Anglos and anyone of color but especially Hispanics is?
Publishing this blog entry wasn’t a certainty. But there’s so much negativity and diatribe about “illegals” that I felt compelled to publish. There are far too many bigots, racists and xenophobes in this nation of “immigrants” for me to ignore. The consequences of their fear and loathing are affecting our way of life.Ever wonder what the source of the obvious enmity between Anglos and anyone of color... more

I’m often asked why it is I say that “Texas red is---well, red. You know what I’m talking about. We’re talking reactionary, Texas red reactionaries. These are Neocons, hateful, mean-spirited, racist, homophobic, proud creators of the state’s cratered landscape of prisons, big supporters of the state’s deplorable apartheid public education system, the state’s unparalleled lack of access to affordable healthcare and of course, politicians who, like the majority population, are intent on keeping things that way.” Oh and by the way, these are self-declared “compassionate, conservative Christians.” That rings hollow to me.I’m often asked why it is I say that “Texas red is---well, red. A Desperately needed New “News” Channel for the U.S. that would succeed in spite of the elimination of the "Fairness Doctrine" by Republican saint Ronald Reagan at the request of Rupert Murdock is a News station that ‘Requires’, as policy, that everything broadcasted is to be the TRUTH with No misleading or out-of-context statements allowed in ALL broadcast material. It would require having an external group that monitors everything for Truth and Accuracy so that what is broadcasted can be Trusted. It is an old-fashioned idea that the people who are trusted to give you the ‘News’ be required to tell you the Truth, Without misleading statements and it is time for those Ideals to come back!
One result will be that they will be a little behind other channels on reporting current events simply because All material and statements Must be checked for accuracy. But, people WILL tune in to get the “Un-Spun” news that they Trust and I think it would be a VERY popular station.
Another result would be that Any political advertising, and all advertising for that matter, would be Required to be Truthful and Accurate, *(No ‘misleading’ or ‘out-of-context’ statements allowed!), which most people would pay attention to Knowing that it is Required to be the Accurate Truth.
*(Many politicians And companies will have a Very hard time coming up with an ad that would pass the test.) Win, Win!A Desperately needed New “News” Channel for the U.S. that would succeed in... more

Last week, June 7 – 9 2012, the Texas Democratic State Convention took place in Houston. Did anyone besides the attendees notice?
Given the fact that the majority of attendees, democracy in action, voted overwhelmingly to maintain the status quo it must be Democrats who haven’t won statewide office in almost 20 years, intend to keep things that way.Last week, June 7 – 9 2012, the Texas Democratic State Convention took place in... more

Consider this, “Between 1900 and 2000, the Hispanic share of the Texas population increased from less than 5 percent to 32 percent and by 2040 is expected to be 53 percent. Bluntly, the question now is — because Hispanic income and educational attainment are lower than Anglos — does this mean that an increasingly Hispanic Texas must be poorer, less educated, and less productive? The answer, some assure, is no; especially if Hispanics, or Texas, or some combination of the two, act to improve Hispanic educational attainment. Then Hispanic productivity and income will grow, and Texas will continue to prosper. Others worry that demographic change is outrunning improvement in educational attainment. As Texas State Demographer Lloyd Potter said in early 2011, “A [Hispanic] population that isn’t making enough money to fuel our economy, or ends up being a burden on the state — that is not indicative of having a higher quality of life in the future.”Consider this, “Between 1900 and 2000, the Hispanic share of the Texas... more
