Source Code has an interesting premise – what if you could go back in time, via by being inserted into the mind of another person for the last eight minutes of that person’s life? It’s a thriller with big ideas, executed by director Duncan Jones, whose low budget Moon demonstrated his natural facility for science fiction/fantasy. With Source Code, he’s been given more money to work with, and more actors (since Moon was largely the Sam Rockwell show). With a cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, and Jeffrey Wright, Jones keeps the story on track, and drives it home. When Jake Gyllenhaal isn't on the train in Source Code, he's in a pod, communicating via monitor with an Air Force officer named Colleen Goodwin (played by Vera Farmiga). Goodwin explains that while his character Colter Stevens last remembers himself to be on an Army mission in Afghanistan, he is actually on a secret mission to find a bomb on a Chicago train before it blows up, and to identify the bomber, who has plans for even more explosions.

In Source Code, Jake Gyllenhaal wakes up on a train and finds himself sitting next to a woman who seems to know him -- but he doesn't know her. For eight minutes, he talks to that woman (played by Michelle Monaghan), before the train blows up -- at which point he's yanked into the present and he's told that he's embodying someone else in the past, and he's going to continue going back to that body on that train in the past, for the same eight minutes, until he can find the bomber. Each of those visits is a "source code," and though it's the same eight minutes, each time, it's a little different, and each time, his relationship with Monaghan's character grows. Monaghan explains how tricky time travel can be, and whose body she'd be willing to jump into again.

At last night’s 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala, Natalie Portman rocked a barely-there baby bump while Helen Mirren rocked a new short hairdo that looks fabulous on her. But then again, anything looks fabulous on her.
Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Affleck (looking a little bit too much like G.I. Joe), soon-to-be-daddy Javier Bardem and the super handsome Aaron Eckhart also attended the star-studded event that took place at Palm Springs Convention Centre.
