Colorado Rocky Mountain School is an independent high school in the heart of the Rocky Mountains where student-initiated philanthropic clubs abound. From Operation Smile and Face Aids to Peace Jam and Souls4Souls, CRMS students continually expand their interest in, and fundraising efforts surrounding, global humanitarian causes. And while all these clubs enjoy strong membership, an amazing thing happened the other day when one student proposed starting a Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) chapter. Based on an international foundation that promotes kindness (established in 1995 as a 501c3 nonprofit organization) the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is a resource for people committed to spreading kindness.
So Grady, a CRMS senior, announces at a weekly all-school meeting that he would like to start a RAK chapter and to simply reply to his email if anyone is interested in being involved. Well, as a small school with only 145 students and 35 faculty/staff, over 55 people immediately responded and joined his effort. So one week into the new RAK club, over one-third of the school is involved in promoting kindness and unexpected gifts of gratitude
A modern day "Forrest Gump" is running from one coast of America to the other in order to raise money and awareness for homeless teens.
The goal is to raise $100,000,000. A very lofty goal that was insipred by Sir Richard Branson .
The large goal is nearly dwarfed by the fact that unlike Tom Hanks character Forrest Gump, Tellman Knudson is running across the country BAREFOOT.
3000 plus miles on America's rocky asphalt roads with no shoes is a crazy feat to undertake but not for this self-made Internet Millionaire.

It’s official. The Blue Dog’s fundraising slowdown was not just a symptom of the dog days of summer. Newly released public disclosure forms indicate that over September, the coalition’s PAC took in its smallest monthly total yet this year.
Our analysis of the fiscally conservative and increasingly influential Blue Dog Coalition and its funding noted that the group’s political action committee had averaged more than $176,000 in receipts from other PACs over the first half of 2009. Their monthly haul dropped to a surprisingly low $27,000 in July, rebounded somewhat in August, and but then dropped again to just $12,500 in September.
That September money came from just three donations — $5,000 from accounting and professional services giant Ernst & Young’s PAC, $2,500 from the Food Marketing Institute PAC, and $5,000 from the National Rifle Association of America Political Victory Fund.
After raising $1.1 million from January to June, the committee raised less than $87,000 between July and September — less than it brought in during any one of the preceding five months. And in just three months, the Blue Dog PAC’s monthly fundraising average dropped by more than $50,000 — probably not the sort of fiscal conservatism the 52-member coalition was hoping for. It’s official. In a marked reversal of the time when Democrats overpassed the Republicans long-standing fund raising advantage, it now appears that could be over.
It may be related to large donors withholding their contributions because the Democrats have been attacking the conduct of financial firms and set their sites on rewriting laws that regulate their conduct. Their combined receipts were down by 20 percent. In addition to business interests, individual donors are also disappearing. In a marked reversal of the time when Democrats overpassed the Republicans... more

―Three-year-old Mary O'Keefe has Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer that starts in the adrenal gland and quickly spreads to the neck, chest, stomach and pelvis.
What would you do if doctors told you, your child only has a month to live? That's what doctors told a family in Apple Valley.
Three-year-old Mary O'Keefe has Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer that starts in the adrenal gland and quickly spreads to the neck, chest, stomach and pelvis.
It is a grim prognosis for Mary but at least for one day some of the sadness was eased by the kindness of neighbors -- and strangers.
"Your children are your most important things in your life. Mary is more than we could ever hope for or dream," said her father Peter O'Keefe.
Little Mary was diagnosed with cancer a year ago.
"Mary is doing OK. She's just OK for right now," said her father.
She's had 6 months of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. It looked good for a while but then the cancer came back in June.
"It comes back with a vengeance when it relapses," said Peter.
"They gave her one month to live," said Mary's mother, Christine O'Keefe. "I cry…that's all I do is cry."
"Why my daughter? She's so special, she loves to sing and dance," said her mother. "I was going to sign her up for dance lessons."
"This is my only granddaughter and it's very, very hard to go through," said Mary's grandma Anne Sommer.
But the family is not going through this alone. Their neighbors decided to have a garage sale to help the family.
There were no tags on the items -- people paid what they wanted. Many donated cash.
"People just started bringing their things and we started setting up and this is what you have," said neighbor Nancy Duehn.
"God is good, he got everybody together, it just morphed into this huge ordeal and the donations (sighs) I'm speechless," said Christine.
One woman drove more than an hour to donate items.
"They're a great family. You want to anything you can to try to help. You don't ever want anybody to have to go through something like this," said Brooke Foley, who drove all the way from Green Isle, Minn.
The woman who delivers the O'Keefe's mail donated a trumpet -- she knows what the family is going through.
"I see the cards and I see the bills and I know what's going on. It get's personal," said mail carrier Mary Davis.
Although money is needed, the family is holding out for something more.
"That's what we're down to right now -- is a miracle," said Mary's father.

ONE was present in Milan and featured in U2's 360 tour, which kicked off Tuesday night in Barcelona and will be seen by over 3 million people this year. ONE will campaign at all tour stops in Europe this summer and throughout the North America shows, which begin in September.
Weldon Kennedy, campaigns manager of ONE, tells about the goals of the organization, its relationship to U2, and the need of the G8 heads of state to deliver on their promises of aid to Africa.
Bono during the show changed the script and spoke directly to Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Italy: "I only write songs, but you write history, and it's not too late for you to end your mandate in dignity!" and dedicated him the song 'One'. He was referring to Italy's aid being currently at only 3% of what has been originally promised

In an effort to raise a little capital for urgently needed new gear, I have put together two galleries of my street photography in hopes of selling some open edition prints. They are not expensive and would make for excellent gifts or an exciting addition to your print collection.
Images approximate between 12x8 and 13x9 inches on 11x14 inch Fuji Crystal Archive stock and sell for £35 apiece.
I need to raise an additional £500 to get video and audio equipment by summer's end for a series of short films I'm developing. I'm relatively new to motion capture but I see it as an increasingly important part of my professional activities going forward.
If you know anyone who might like some off-kilter street photography for their walls, then please let them know about this material. I would be enormously appreciative.
Many thanks.

A "mystery" woman has swum to Richard Branson's private island to plead for the Virgin billionaire's help in funding a community radio station in Sydney.
The station in question, FBi Radio, has been running an "Ask Richard" campaign with listeners doing all sorts of things - including throwing themselves out of planes - to grab the tycoon's attention.
"The first I heard about (the campaign) was I was having an early evening dinner on Necker Island and this rather soaking wet Australian girl stumbled into the dinner room," Sir Richard told FBi Radio.A "mystery" woman has swum to Richard Branson's private island to plead for the Virgin... more
Waitresses at the The Grand View Topless Coffee Shop aren't resting on their laurels after it burned down in Maine last week.
Nope, they are donning clothes and getting out into the local community to raise funds to rebuild the business.
Donald Crabtree's cheeky, family-run cafe was gutted by fire and ironically enough wasn't 'covered' by insurance. Check out FreshPlastic's original article here:
