How the United States Television News Media's content has been controlled and restrained by large corporate businesses by restricting funding, threats by advertisers and how it's affected the coverage of much important news stories...
There has been a dumbing down of the US News Media, allowing an environment that allows crimes to be committed in safety and seclusion. An environment where the real issues are hidden... and the in depth of coverage that is needed.... is controlled tightly by the hands of corporate giants...
The people and citizens of the United States have lost a crucial needed component that must be preformed in a free society. Without a Vibrant and Independent Media.... we loose both the Truth and our Freedom.

This story about Hayden Wright, the drunk 4-year old gift thief is a lot like a last minute winning bid on eBay. I think it may be one of the best stories of the year, and it just snuck in under the gun.
These are some of the other contenders for Best Odd News Story of the Year...
Crocodile instigates helicopter crash, live passenger buried in sand
An Australian pilot, became excited when he saw a crocodile over mudflats that he crashed his helicopter. Fearing that his injured passenger would catch hypothermia, the pilot buried him up to his head in the sand. The pilot suffered only mild injuries, but the passenger was seriously hurt in the crash.
No word on the whereabouts of the provoking croc.
Cops capture Prawo Jazdy, "the worst driver in Ireland"
Police in Ireland have been trying to crack the case of Prawo Jazdy, a terrible driver who has evaded authorities with a string of fake addresses. But as it turns out, "Prawo Jazdy" is Polish for "Driving License." The name "Prawo Jazdy" has been found at least 50 times in the system.
Man revives wife from coma, by nibbling on her toes
A Chinese man successfully woke his wife up from a 10-year coma, by biting her toes.
“I played the radio, sang and talked to her and even tickled her, but nothing worked. I then recalled someone saying that the feet are the home for many nerves. I wondered if I could wake her up by biting her feet."
Why isn't there more research into toe biting?
Man solves Rubik's cube after 26 years
After years of trying 45-year old Graham Parker has been able to finish the Rubik's cube.
"'I cannot tell you what a relief it was to finally solve it,' the 45-year-old from Portchester, Hampshire, said. 'It has driven me mad over the years – it felt like it had taken over my life. I have missed important events to stay in and solve it and I would lie awake at night thinking about it."
I can imagine the relief. I once spent a Saturday night in, trying to finish one, and never completed it. 26 years is crazy!
Wild Bear kills Terrorists in cave hideout

"not sure if the story is the oddest, but I always loved this headline."
'Vampire leader' sentenced for threatening judge
This was suggested by @AnnahkSuNamun who said:

Last week I laid out details about our editorial team and guidelines when it comes to finding and featuring content on Current.com. Today we're launching a brand new community-based experiment built on top of our editorial practices which, for lack of a better name, I'm calling "Developing Stories."
What is a Developing Story?
This doesn't always hold true, but quite frequently we notice that stories we feature on Current.com actually speak to a larger, ongoing story in play. Sometimes these stories are stretched out over longer periods of time (e.g. the ongoing discussions around public options in healthcare reform, or the debates surrounding gay marriage), and other times these stories are developing rapidly over the course of hours (e.g. Elections 2009, Afghan presidential elections, or Michael Jackson's death).
Starting today, we'll begin identifying certain featured stories that we think have the opportunity to be "developed" further. These stories will be added to our Developing Stories group, and we'll clearly mark it as such on both the story page and whichever image is picked to accompany the story.
What does it mean to have a story picked as a Developing Story?
This is the cool part. Getting your story featured as a Developing Story is like having the stage handed over to you. We're looking to take a closer look at the underpinnings of these stories, and we're giving you the opportunity to take on the role of online investigative journalist in the process. As long as things continue to progress in a relevant way, your story will remain featured on Current.com.
OK, so how does all of this work?
Well, it's pretty simple actually. When a story is selected to feature as a Developing Story, the editor will add it to our Developing Stories group, and message you in a comment on your story with a link to some guidelines and tips to help you develop your story. Here's how you'll develop your story:
Follow your story: Keep a watchful eye for new developments regarding your story. Have there been new stories with different angles published? Another great approach is to investigate the subject matter addressed in your story, see where that takes you. You might discover a story that mainstream media hasn't picked up on yet.
Update to keep your story current: When you find updates, interesting supporting information, or new angles on the story you will need to update your original story with a revised headline, new information, new media (image or video), and links to the details. This is the important part: Do not submit an entirely new story, instead make your edits in the original story description and title. We want to develop the story within the original post that you submitted, and your changes will be reflected on the homepage immediately.
Archive old information: Your original story will still be limited to the 5000 character limit in the description, so you might find that you run out of room quickly. It would be a shame to lose your research, so archive older portions of the story in a comment on the thread below your original post. For example: Once Karzai was declared President, we no longer need to hold onto links and information about the chance of a runoff election. So copy and paste those paragraphs and URLs into a comment, and preface the comment with "STORY ARCHIVE." It's important to be able to see how the story progressed, and discussions might still branch off of these elements, so we don't want to lose them altogether.
Watch out!: The rest of the community is going to know that you are developing a story, and anyone interested in getting featured will be eligible to scoop you on your own story (more on this below). This means you'll need to stay on top of things as they develop.
Once a story has run it's course, we'll cycle it out of the featured rotation. But, keep an eye on the matter over time. If you happened to develop a story on gay marriage laws a week ago and a new development breaks in that story, it would be best to revisit your older story in development, update it with new information, and attempt to revive the story into featuring prominence.
I have a story, and I think it should be a Developing Story...What do I do?
Developing Stories are picked by the Current.com Editorial Team, but we are always open to suggestions. If you want to get your story on our radar for consideration, please tag it with "Current Developing Stories," "Developing Story," "Developing Stories," or "Current Developing Story" when you submit to Current.com. PLEASE NOTE: Tagging is not the same as adding to a group. The "Current Developing Stories" is a CLOSED group managed by the editors, so you will not be able to add stories there. Tagging, however, will allow you to be seen by our editors we will monitor that tag for potential stories to develop.
[Ed. Note -- Someone asked if we could use something simpler as a tag for these, something like "CDS" or "dev stories." The issue here is that these tags already correlate to other information. "CDS" represents that archaic music format known as the compact disc, and "dev stories" sounds like a variation on developer tales. I've added a few more options that we'll keep an eye on, but for now lets stick with these. Thanks]
But...does this mean that the same folks will always be featured?
Well, the possibility that our more proficient community members will take the spotlight for longer periods of time is very, very real. However, being featured as a Developing Story is by no means permanent. Think of the "Developing Story" banner as an alert that this type of story is on our radar. Someone might already be developing a health care reform story on the homepage, but they have to eat and sleep at some point. If you scoop developments in the story out from under them, you'll find your story swapped into the featured spot in place of the original poster.
Here's how that works:
Keep an eye on Developing Stories: Our group is the best place to get an indication of stories we are looking to develop. Visit it often, then hit the Interwebs and do a little investigating of your own. You never know, you might find an angle that the original poster didn't consider, and it might be your ticket to scooping the story out from under them.
Pitch your scoop to get it on our radar: We'll be following Developing Stories very closely, so if you find a potential scoop in a story, here's the best way to call it to our attention. First, submit an item with your scoop, and be sure to tag your story with "Current Developing Stories" and include a link to the Developing Story you're attempting to scoop in the description. Next, post a link to your scoop story in the comments on the Developing Story and clearly call out that this is an angle you think the story should take.
Now to be fair, this is an experiment. It isn't going to be perfect out of the gate, but it seems like an opportunity to open things up a bit more on Current.com and get a little friendly competition started. We rely on you for researched stories, so the more original and unique your angle is, the better chance it will have to become a Developing Story.
As I stated initially, not every story will be considered "Developing Story" potential, and we'll likely ease into this with only one or two stories a day at first, just to see how things go. Developing Stories are still subject to our editorial guidelines for featuring, so make sure you're up to speed on those. You may also want to keep in mind some of the recent changes made to our submission tool.
Sound good? Let us know what you think!Last week I laid out details about our editorial team and guidelines when it comes to... more

[UPDATE: Please note that when posting a story you should leave source links in your description text if you intend to include them or pull media from those links for your story. It does not matter where in the description they appear, just note that the link closest to the top of the description text will be your primary source, and you can pull media from up to five other sources. Thanks!]
While news of our new Fall episodes has been at the forefront these days, that doesn't mean that our dev team has been twiddling their thumbs. To the contrary, we're happy to announce that there is a new release hitting Current.com today, and we can't wait to hear what you think of it.
Let's face it, contributing to Current.com has never been the easiest thing to do -- a refresh of this workflow has been long overdue. With this new release, clicking the "Post a Story" button (located in the green navigation bar) will now produce a submission tool overlaid on whichever page you're on.
We've streamlined the process, here's a walkthrough:
Title and Description Please: We now offer only two initial fields to enter, one for Title and one for Description. The new tool will work with you to customize your post, while putting the focus where it counts: clearly titling your post and adding a description.
Link it up: Adding a link to your post is super simple -- merely copy the link into your description field. Once you paste a link, the submission tool will immediately process any and all available media (photos, video embeds, etc.) on the source page and offer them as selections for you to include in your post. Click on the one that makes the most sense, and you're one step closer to posting.
Place your post where it counts most: A story is only as good as its location, and we use groups and tags to help place stories in areas that make the most sense on Current.com. You'll find an easy groups dropdown menu pre-populated with all of the groups you belong to, along with an open field for tags. Tags are important. They help lost stories find groups to live in. If you don't belong to a group that you think the story might make sense in, use relevant tags to help it along its merry way. It's like Mom always said, "Don't forget your lunch tags!"
Tired of the minors? Time to go pro!: Anyone can submit links to Current.com, but it takes a true professional to raise the bar by posting alongside video, images, or webcams. Clicking the "add video/image/webcam" link, you'll open the secret door to file uploading, webcam recording, and embedding video. Are you up for the challenge?
Those of you who mastered our older submission workflow will recognize that all of the essential pieces are still here, just repositioned and streamlined.
Since we're never content leaving well enough alone, we've also taken an initial stab and refining our commenting workflow as well.
You'll notice that at the bottom of each post there is now an open comment box (regardless of login/logout status). This new comment flow acts similarly to the new submission tool. Clicking into the comment field allows you to type up a response, and you can add links and select media by following similar steps.
And as always, if you've connected your Current.com account to Facebook, you can publish your awesome stories and comments to your Facebook feed to share with your friends.
So what do you think? Does this make things easier? Is it simple enough? Shoot us some feedback on our Get Satisfaction page, and help us out with future product releases.[UPDATE: Please note that when posting a story you should leave source links in your... more

With a great appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, the Who fan expectations of what the new Doctor will be like is expanding, I've heard a lot of excitement at how good the new doctor will be.
In another resent interview, Matt Smith revealed he wrote little experiment stories to create an understanding and bond with the famed character.
""I wanted to feel like Doctor Who, understand where he'd come from. So I wrote stories of The Doctor and Einstein in Egypt which focused on their roles in the creation of the Pyramids. I had six months prep before we began filming so it gave me time to write quite a few stories."
No word on if any episodes he wrote might be taken on in a future series, but despite that it's great to hear how much work he's put into the role. With a great appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, the Who fan expectations... more

"First Native American Television Network to be launched soon... World Indigenous Network gives back native voice.
CORTE MADERA CA / World Indigenous Network ( WIN-Tv ) is an idea that was born into the mind of Gérard Angé two and a half years ago. He has invested over a million dollars of his own money into an innovative concept that is sure to cause much-deserved hype among Native Americans as well as non-natives.
World Indigenous Network, or Win-TV, is the first national 24-hour satellite and cable based American Indian television network. It could be up and running in less than three months after funding. The network will feature all aspects of indigenous life, including but certainly not limited to news, music, dance, sports, politics, religion, food, and tribal issues. Mr. Ange’ believes that the network will “give all indigenous peoples back a voice that was ripped away from them”.
Win-TV will feature several shows that will provide information, entertainment, and education all from a native standpoint. Some shows planned for the network include Good Morning Native America, the Native American’s version of the popular Good Morning America; Native America Talking, a Larry King-ish talk show on Native issues, All Native Sportscene, Kids Korner, the first children’s program targeted at Native American youngsters, and Medicine Wheel, a show that targets the unique health needs of indigenous people. These are only a few of many programs that will benefit viewers in all aspects of living.
Win-Com, the company’s retail division will have five separated parts: shop-at-home, eCommerce, catalog sales, merchandising, and retail outlets. These five divisions will work cumulatively to stimulate business for native people and native businesses, as well as provide marketing platforms to demonstrate native arts, crafts, and talents in a larger, more mainstream market.
Win-Com will also provide a way for non-Native Americans to receive a sincere look into native life and culture without movies, or history books. Finally, Win-Com should positively boost the company’s reputation through sales of apparel and other products that will carry the company logo.
The primary goal of Win-TV is to give Native Americans back a voice that has been long lost, although much deserved. Mr. Ange hopes to provide an “exchange between nations” through the networking of native ideas and platforms among other cultures."
