Confirmed Discrepancies in CCTV’s Live Broadcast of Shenzhou VII Launch

CCTV ran a live broadcast of the Shenzhou VII spacecraft launch to mark the second phase of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s Project 921 at the end of September. This video footage, however, contains many unexplainable physical phenomena.

These anomalies from the broadcast, which include bubbles in space, no evidence of the earth’s atmosphere, and the lack of background noise usually hear in space communication, call into question the legitimacy of the mission itself. Upon analyzing this footage, some even suspect the live broadcast was a fraud that employed an analogue video taken under water to simulate conditions in space.

Hoping to understand these anomalies, The Epoch Times contacted Chinese expert Dr. Qu Zheng, who worked at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, to scientifically analyze the video discrepancies of the spacewalk broadcast.

Reporter: Dr. Qu Zheng, there have been concerns raised about the live broadcast of the CCP Shenzhou VII Spacecraft launch? What’s your view on this?

Qu Zheng: I have seen it all. My research is related to the launch of this spacecraft so I have been watching it very closely. In addition, since I am Chinese, anything happening in China—especially things related to my field of research—grabs even more of my attention.

Personally, although I know the CCP regime has a history of fraudulent activity, where they often do things for political gain, when I saw these discrepancies, I didn’t want to believe them—I wanted the live broadcast to be true. If this video which was broadcasted to the whole world is a fraud, not only will this make the Chinese people lose face in front of the whole world, I will personally not be able to hold my head up in front of my colleagues.

Unfortunately, when I watched the live broadcast provided by CCTV, I was shocked. Although not all of the doubts raised by the people on the blogs are legitimate, many of them are indeed very accurate. The problems in the video all involve simple physics, so it doesn’t require a very high level of professional insight to see what is going on.

Besides, from my own observation and analysis, I have found even more discrepancies. They incontestably confirm that this so-called live broadcasting never took place in space.

Reporter: What are your suspicions? Can you give us a detail explanation?

Qu Zheng: Of course. In addition to the air bubble problem pointed out by bloggers, they also includes technical pre-launch concerns, a lack of atmosphere around the Earth, abrupt large scale changes in the clouds, and no background noise heard in the space-talk. Where do we need to move now to escape Big Brother, and would the North Pole suffice? I wonder. I came back from work tonight to find a new CCTV camera right outside my door, this is as close as it can be before they install one in the apartment I live in. I live on a lone street in the suburbs of London, there is absolutely no reason to put a camera there...

We can no longer deny that our governments are control freaks, they will not stop until they know everything we all do and say at any given time. This is called paranoia. Why the need for such a police state? What are the authorities really fearing? Great questions...

Let's study the consequences of such a Big Brother policy on all of us, and if really this is something we want in any self-proclaimed democracy. And if we don't want it, why is it still imposed on all of us? Crucial questions...

Just throw a bit of paper on the sidewalk, perhaps even unintentionally, there are CCTV cameras everywhere, your identity can now be established quickly with just a shot of your face and the databases. You're an instant criminal with a huge fine to pay. So many people have been fined hugely in England recently for chucking their cigarette butt on the sidewalk, and yet, no one blinked an eye to this state of affair...

Because it has not happened to you yet, and when it does, you will feel powerless to stop it, you wouldn't know what to do, and so, you will do nothing but accept that you're a criminal and that you have to be punished. Abuse of power, this is what will be on your mind. And the lack of power to redress the situation. We are so powerless, we could never hope to be heard, to change anything, even, to warn others. Well, I am doing it right now, and so you can find a way to do it too...

China's state broadcaster is interested in the Olympics but not Olympians, China's what matters

If you want an idea of how China is watching its Games, forget the live venues. Only 40% of the tickets were available to the domestic public, with the other 60% kept back in order that various relatives of IOC dignitaries might shop, or take long lunches, or whatever it is they are doing that is keeping them from occupying the vast swaths of empty seats in every arena.

Much better to settle down with a remote control and the fine state broadcast service that is China Central Television - somewhat unfortunately abbreviated to CCTV. How to give you a flavour of its news values? Yesterday five protesters abseiled down the side of CCTV's head office - that breathtaking, Mobius strip-like glass structure in Beijing's financial district - unfurling a vast Free Tibet banner. Police spent up to an hour getting them down, yet the incident was not referred to, much less shown, on any of CCTV's 18 channels. In fairness it is always difficult when a story breaks as far as two feet from your watercooler, so let us assume it was simply unable to get any reporters or cameramen outside in time.

Then again it seems that every day is a good day to bury bad news here, what with CCTV having to meet its obligations to play the official Olympic song, Beijing Welcomes You, at least 987 times in any news cycle.

Beijing Welcomes You comes complete with a video comparable to the BBC's Perfect Day promo, with 100 of China's best-known celebrities positioned either at famous cultural landmarks, or Olympic venues, or engaged in traditional crafts. Each of them sings a couple of the song's lines, every one of which seems to be "Beijing welcomes you".

"Beijing welcomes you!" bellows Jackie Chan, flinging open his arms atop the Great Wall. "We've opened up our world to you!" Cut to a shot of Peking duck spinning round on a lazy Susan. "Beijing welcomes you!" sing a boyband, as if they have never meant a lyric more.

In duration it is slightly longer than the sort of experimental album track a self-indulgent prog-rock band might lay down at their most narcotically addled. This lot have not welcomed you to Beijing until you are lying down and begging for mercy. Hear it twice and it will never leave your internal jukebox.

It does, however, contrive to be less irksome than Beijing I Love You, which also comes around at least once an hour on every channel and features a torch-bearing singer accompanied by a cast of thousands. The lyrics are subtitled, presumably so the Chinese can join in the rapture from the comfort of their own sofa. Often one of these follows the other, giving the viewer a glimpse of what it would be like to pass eternity in China's most on-message choral society.

But what of the sport? The thing that strikes you most is that the state broadcaster is interested in Olympics but not Olympians. Not for CCTV the looks at individual athletes' backstories which are commonplace to those who watch sport in the west. The focus is heavily Chinese, of course - but then all nations ladle on the patriotism at the Olympics. However, whereas Brits will by now know an awful lot more about Nicole Cooke than they did a fortnight ago, the Chinese are not presented with the athlete's journey to gold. It is as if the only narrative that matters is that of China's. Hence endless focus on the medal table.

The approach would appear to tally with one of 21 edicts on Olympic coverage, issued by China's propaganda bureau, which decrees "don't overhype gold medals". Chinese athletes are celebrated but, typically, all together, in one giant Team China montage.

That said, they certainly get the airtime. Hell, they even get the dead airtime and so it is that the camera will focus on a Chinese gymnast waiting minutes for a score to come up, ignoring the competition continuing elsewhere.
