To put it bluntly, the holidays bum me out. I don’t think it really has anything to do with the occasion — y’know, all that stuff about how we instinctively reject the incessant pressure towards merriment and good will (aka Holly Jolly Complex) — I think it’s more physical. The extended darkness and the plummeting temperatures and the tons of hours spent in arid, indoor environments — my body just can’t cope. About this time of year, I seriously begin to wonder if hibernation isn’t a viable option.
So cheers to Broken Lizard that they decide to release THE SLAMMIN’ SALMON just when we winter-ravaged souls need it the most. The film’s about the wait staff of an upscale seafood restaurant who are forced by their debt-riddled owner into a competition to run up their customers’ bills, but that’s just the mechanism by which the Lizards — Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske — deliver the funny. And it turns out there’s lots of funny to be had in examining one hectic night in the life of a dining establishment, not the least being Michael Clarke Duncan’s portrayal of the owner — a former boxing champion whose time in the ring has not done any favors to either his logic processes or his temper. Really, you don’t want to cross a man who thinks nothing of punching out a rampant swordfish.
Kevin Heffernan is making his directorial debut with this film. We got to talk about how the troupe called upon personal experience to bring THE SLAMMIN’ SALMON’s restaurant world to life, and what it’s like importing such actors as Michael Clarke Duncan and Brian Cox into the Broken Lizard universe. The Broken Lizard guys have lost all their Hollywood support. No studio will make their movies anymore so they've gone the independent route. Their newest feature, Slammin' Salmon, premiered at Slamdance earlier this year, but didn't get a distributor until much later. Now it's finally hitting theaters in December, but probably not near where you live. Either way, Apple has released a new trailer for Slammin' Salmon and it still looks good. I love these guys for exactly who they are - a group of funny guys who love making funny movies. It's not for everyone, but I think it looks hilarious.

Jay Chandrasekhar, of Broken Lizard, has made a decent name for himself as a cult comedy director. After he had the hilarious Super Troopers under his belt (we'll just ignore Club Dread out of courtesy), he made the jump to a more mainstream comedy in the 2005 bland and uninspired Dukes of Hazzard. Luckily he followed it up with another worthy cult comedy in Beerfest. As of late, Chandrasekhar has spent a lot of time as a gun for hire directing episodes for Universal television series like "Psych" and "Chuck." Variety now reports his return to features directing Shotgun Wedding, comedy he co-wrote with David Gilcreast.Jay Chandrasekhar, of Broken Lizard, has made a decent name for himself as a cult... more

Preview-Review
The Broken Lizard Team is well known for their raunchy flavored humor.
Now they have a bit more than a cult following. They are staying true to the
craft with a National Live Tour. There was a warm up preview
on Saturday July 11th, 2009 at the IO West Theatre in Hollywood, CA.
I just happen to come across on Friday night that they were having
a preview show from their twitter page. I tried to get tickets online(which were
already gone, I called the box office and was told to call Sat afternoon
when tickets would go on sale for that night, I called and reserved,
thank goodness i did, because when I got there I found out that
The show was Sold Out.)
The Troopers start off the tour in Burlington, Vermont on July 18th, 2009.
So they were brushing up their sketch work.
This is the first time that this field reporter/bloggist/performer had seen this comedy team perform live.I became a fan of the film Super Troopers in 2003, when my brother recommended it. I laughed so hard. So I wanted to see how they were live. (Cause I can feel good sketchady when I see it & laugh my boobs off and can give a true glimpse
to people who might kinda think of going to see these quintuplets)
After seeing them, I can say that they were on it 98% of the time.
(i must have been taking pics the other two percent of the time)
Jay Chandrasekhar 1/5 of the team was off on a directorial gig and
was not at the preview (i m sure he was there in spirit) and he is going to join the group on the road. Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernen, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhankse proved that
they can own the stage as a group and as individuals with their presence.
If you want to laugh with your whole body, this is the show to see this summer
and until when they finish the tour. They know how to play with
people's funny bone. They have the edge and they can bring
on the hot heat!
I, as part of the audience, got to find out a little bit more about these super jokers.
Did you know that Steve Lemme is half Argentinian? Did you know that Erik Stolhanske
is the wholesome one in the group? Did you know that Kevin Heffernen likes to do nudity?
Did you know that Paul Soter is expecting a baby? Well you can find out all kinds
little interesting knowledge for your next bridge party--that and more.
We have a sneak peak & glimpse of the preview in pics which we will upload tonight.
They give 100 x(hundred times) the pleasure to you the audience with their good humor.
you can drink(stiff drunk) if you want to but you don't have to-to get the funny of their wit. -tj
