Tonight, the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability will hold a public hearing on the proposed Portland Bicycle Plan 2030, which will guide the city's planning on bike projects over the next two decades.
And, if recent voice mails left on the Hard Drive commuting blogs voice mail are any indication, there's a chance that the gathering could in some ways resemble last summer's often unruly town halls on health care reform.
Only in Portland could motorists feel like they are the victims of discrimination.
Portland Mayor Sam Adams has declared that he wants Stumptown to be greenest big city in America. With that in mind, transportation officials say commuters of all modes deserve a thoughtful and civil discussion about the future of the city's transportation planning.Tonight, the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability will hold a public hearing... more

In Portland politics Mayor Sam Adams is tweeting residents and taking input about PETA's objection to horse drawn carriages in the city. Recently a horse fell dead on city streets while pulling a carriage. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) blame the death of the 24 year old horse on the heat. Temperatures were officially in the 90s but may have felt like the 100s in some areas of downtown.

One of our favorite stops during the OrganicNation.tv KickOff Tour was in Portland, Oregon at Ladybug Organic Coffee Company. Owner Angel O'Brien made us her signature "Ladybug Latte" and took us to back to her "garbage" room, which is really a place to sort recycling and compost.
This well-beloved organic coffee shop only has five-to-eight pounds of landfill trash per week, which is significantly less waste than most households produce in a few days! Not only is this one of greenest coffee shops around, the food and drink is delicious. They make all their offerings, including bagels, from scratch using all organic ingredients. If you live in Portland or are passing through, be sure to check out their full organic breakfast!

In our latest video, we catch up with Chad Kennedy, Head Brewer at Portland's Laurelwood Public House and Brewery. Portland is of course known for its beer and microbreweries, and the Portland beer scene has been swept up in the organic movement in recent years (which is why the North American Organic Brewers Festival was held in Portland over the weekend).
Laurelwood wasn't the first certified-organic brewery in Oregon, but it has been the longest lasting. Chad and his brewers have two organic brews, the the Free Range Red and Tree Hugger Porter, and if Dorothee and Chad seem a bit happier than usual, it's because we had the pleasure of tasting during the shoot.
Chad walked us through the whole process of brewing organic beer, and to our surprise he told us that hops aren't actually organic in organic beer. The barley -- another key ingredient -- is all-organic, but the hops are not. The USDA only requires that 95 percent of the ingredients in certified-organic beer are themselves organic, and because organic hops are in very short supply right now, conventional hops are often used in certified-organic beer.

Oregon Attorney General John Kroger found Portland Mayor Sam Adams guilty of no criminal wrongdoing. Yet with a looming recall, Mayor Adams' political troubles are far from over. Though he has cleared a criminal hurdle, Adams still faces a recall campaign critics describe as his "civil trial."
The finding ends a saga that began in January, but is no guarantee that Adams will survive as Mayor. The effort to recall Portland Mayor Sam Adams will continue.
Campaign chairman Jason Wurster said Oregon Attorney General John Kroger’s decision to not press criminal charges against Adams “doesn’t effect the recall whatsoever.” He's leading the recall effort against Adams, vowing to collect 50,000 signatures in 90 days. The Recall Sam Adams campaign plans to file its official petition with the Secretary of State’s office July 7. Signature-gathering could begin as early as July 9.
The campaign needs 32,183 signatures within 90 days, but Wurster said the campaign’s goal is 50,000. If the campaign gathers enough signatures, Adams has five days to respond. If he refuses to resign, a special election must be held within 35 days.Oregon Attorney General John Kroger found Portland Mayor Sam Adams guilty of no... more

Gay Pride 2009 brought thousands to downtown Portland as they enjoyed a colorful, uniquely Portland, display of freedom and equal rights.
It’s one of the oldest gay pride parades in the country going back to the 1970s. Sam Adams has participated in this parade many times in the past, but never as Mayor.
“Wow, it’s a real honor to serve as Mayor and the fact that Portlanders put me in here as the first openly gay Mayor of a Major U.S. city, I’m a lucky guy,” said Mayor Adams as he rode his bicycle down the parade route.
Many in the gay community are eager for results of an Attorney General’s investigation into Adams alleged sexual relationship with an underage intern, but the crowd along the parade route gave the Mayor strong support.
