If I had a fashion "thing," it would be coats.
I love coats. Jackets. Outerwear. They’re cozy, and they don’t have to compliment your outfit because you’re taking them off inside anyway, and even if you aren’t, they cover up the rest of your outfit and easily become outfits on their own. Coats! They’re fashion’s staple food in cold weather, the proverbial potatoes in the cellar.
I have a couple of coats – I do live in Seattle, the land of omg sudden weather (one of the freeways unexpectedly flooded yesterday…what!?) – but every year I find myself looking for just one more. It doesn’t help that I’ve gained weight, and wearing a jacket that doesn’t fit is like muffin topping – ew.
So here are a bunch of coats I want. They’re all under $100, and they’re all made by BB Dakota. (I own one of their wool belted trenches: it’s warm, and has held up really, really well for more than a year of rain and snow.)

In a story that should have us all railing against the cancer of capitalism, it recently came to the attention of many, thanks to the New York Times, that ubiquitous fashion retailer H&M has apparently been destroying perfectly usable unsold clothing, in the middle of winter, in a city where one third the population is poor.
"Gloves with the fingers cut off," "warm socks," "cute patent leather Mary Jane school shoes, maybe for fourth graders, with the instep cut up with a scissor," and "men’s jackets, slashed across the body and the arms" are among the items recently described by one New York resident to Times reporter Jim Dwyer as being among the countless pieces of merhandise purposely ruined and rendered unwearable, piled in trash bags behind the Herald Square location in Manhattan.
The article met with much outrage -- "H&M" topped the Trending Topics list on Twitter -- and shortly thereafter, H&M announced that that it would stop the practice and would "instead donate the garments to charities."
"It will not happen again,” said Nicole Christie, a spokeswoman for H&M in New York. “We are committed 100 percent to make sure this practice is not happening anywhere else, as it is not our standard practice.”In a story that should have us all railing against the cancer of capitalism, it... more

For traveling we love clothes with pockets. Deep pockets that things won’t fall out of. Pockets with strong zippers where we can stash a passport, cash and credit cards knowing they will stay there securely. Travel-worthy clothes with such pockets are hard to find, especially in woman’s fashions, which is why we are such fans of . . .For traveling we love clothes with pockets. It's safe to say that Owen Thornton has found his niche. The 40 year old Thornton has made a name for himself selling vintage camo clothes. In particular his pieces represent scenes of intense violence. Colorful design names like U.S. Frogskin and "Penis Pattern" Tigerstripe and a passion for his craft has made this ex-punk rocker quite the success. It's safe to say that Owen Thornton has found his niche.
