According to oppostion website Rahesabz.net, former presidential candidate Hossein Moussavi and opposition leader Mehdi Karoubi were driven out of Tehran; citing the official IRNA agency, the site explained that 'members of the Revolutionary Guard and Intelligence Ministry had taken Moussavi and Karoubi in the city of Kelar-Abad (...) to protect them from the wrath of the people'.
Kelar-Abad lies north of Tehran.
On Karoubi's own website, however, his son denied that his father had left the capital.
The official media reported that the two men were removed from Tehran as hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, gathered Wednesday throughout Iran to support the regime and denounce the opposition leaders.~y2009m12d30-Iran-opposition-leaders-driven-out-of-Teheran--slide-show

Several people were killed and more than 300 were arrested in anti-government protests in Tehran Sunday, Iran's Deputy Police Chief Ahmad Reza Radan said on state television station IRINN.
The toll was the result of clashes that broke out between demonstrators and security forces as large crowds gathered for Ashura, a major religious observance.
Five people were reported killed in the fighting, Iranian state-run Press TV said late Sunday. A French government statement put the number of fatalities at eight. With tight restrictions on international media, CNN could not independently verify the casualties.Several people were killed and more than 300 were arrested in anti-government protests... more

French don't like anymore Sarkozy policy (today the consensus of the Head of state, in France, is at its historic low level). So it was born a website and various groups on Facebook that, affected by the success of the No-B day, want to organize the No-Sarkozy Day.
On saturday there will be, in Rome in San Giovanni square, the No-B day (a demonstration against Silvio Berlusconi). The italian public television (Rai) has denied to the Tg3 (tv news) to follow the event. So, if someone, in Italy, would like to follow the event, he will need to watch Rainews24, available only to 30% of population.
Tomorrow, in Rome, there will be the demonstration "Take back the night".
A demonstration against the gender violence where the helpless categories (women, lesbian, transessuals, gay) will be together to get back their rights.
Italy is gripped by crisis and unemployment and with democracy in danger, but is not the only nation in Western Europe in these conditions. Greece experience a similar situation in many respects. Even though recently there the Socialist Party won the election, still isn't ended the social unrest that followed the death of a 15 years old student, killed by police on 6 December 2008. New clashes between students and the Greek police took place on November 17. http://www.inaltreparole.net/en/world/grecia191109.htmlItaly is gripped by crisis and unemployment and with democracy in danger, but is not... more
Today thousands of students took to the streets in many cities of Italy for the right to study and against the cuts made by the government and euphemistically called a reform of public schools and universities. On saturday 14, the CGIL union brought 50,000 people in Rome to call for effective measures against the crisis. In the last month there have been many other demonstrations, the protest against racism, the one of soccer fans, the protest of the police left without funds. http://www.inaltreparole.net/en/resistance/manifestazioni171109.htmlToday thousands of students took to the streets in many cities of Italy for the right... more

The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is measured in parts per million. Before the Industrial Revolution, before men began greater coal burning, destruction of forests and use of oil, the concentration was 280 parts per million by volume. We are now at 387. The Kyoto Protocol provided not to exceed 450 parts per million. But it is only a maximum level to avoid the catastrophe, not a disaster. The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is measured in parts per... more

The two most important news of these days are those that have received less space on italian televisions and newspapers. It's not strange, is not accidental. In many cases it's censorship pure and simple, in others it's the sheer inability on the part of journalists to see the big picture. The two most important news of recent days are the manifestations of workers and students and the verdicts on the trials of 2001 G8 summit in Genoa. The two most important news of these days are those that have received less space on... more

This was my first attempt at creating a proper vid with storyboard, feasability study, etc etc for college so please don't be too harsh on the comments!

Over the bridge in Oakland, there was a sneak demonstration at the local Whole Foods, complete with brass band and superb dancing. Art in Action!!! It's on film and veeeerrrrry entertaining! The police were scratching their heads over what to do.
In case you're not keeping up like some of us are, Whole Foods' CEO, John Mackey, recently penned an op-ed in the WSJ in which he opined that, because he is able to provide private health insurance benefits for his (mostly young and w/o pre-existing conditions, like arthritis or CAD or osteoporosis) workforce, he is opposed to health-care reform that would make health-care a "right" in America.
He even (surprisingly) went so far as to call it "ObamaCare," right in line with the nut-jobs who don't want our government to mess with their MediCare.
Just chalk Mackey up as yet another good citizen who strongly feels that since the system's working for him, there's no need to change it.
After watching the video, take a moment to email our two Senators.I got this email from a contact:

The Germans are consistent in their decadence and moral bankruptcy.Could anyone imagine the German police going into a private home to remove a Hamas flag?
A local district court in the West German city of Bochum fined a student 300 Euros on Wednesday for displaying an Israel flag at a demonstration organized by Muslim organizations against the IDF Operation Cast Lead in January. According to Der Westen, a regional paper in Bochum, the public prosecutor termed the Israeli flag as "provoking" within a special situation.
The 30-year-old student, who spoke on condition of anonymity because she fears for her safety due to "massive problems with Nazis", told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday that the "Israeli flag is a provocation for the anti-Semites." She asked rhetorically, "What is provocative about an Israel flag?" The public prosecutor in Bochum was not available for an immediate comment on the case.
According to Der Westen, the local district court judge deemed the protest of the five activists expressing solidarity with Israel as a "dangerous situation."
A spokesman for the district court, Volker Talarowski, told the Post that there was a "violation of the right to assembly" and the court's decision was issued "independent of a political motivation." Talarowski added that the pro-Israel demonstrators failed to register their protest 48 hours before the event.
Yet the student, who is appealing the fine, said a special regulation permits "spontaneous" demonstrations without a pre-registration. In response to a hardcore anti-Israeli demonstration in Bochum attended by 1,600 protesters on January 17, the student, along with four pro-Israeli activists, displayed a banner stating "Against anti-Semitism and fascism: Solidarity with Israel" as well as the Israel flag. She told the Post that pro-Palestinian supporters "compared Israel with Nazi Germany." Chants of "children murderer Israel" and "Israel terrorist" filled the protest as well as a banner reading "stop the Holocaust in Gaza."
"There is no basis" to draw a parallel between Nazi Germany and Israel, she said. "A Holocaust did not take place in Gaza. Israel defended its territory from rocket fire" emanating from Hamas, added the student. She termed the argument comparing the Israeli military operation in Gaza with the Holocaust as anti-Semitic.
In the Der Westen news report, the student said there is a "confusion of perpetrator and victim. You can only call that anti-Semitism." She told the Post that the protestors in Bochum designated Israelis as Nazis and the Palestinians in Gaza as Jews during the Third Reich.
During Operation Cast Lead over 100,000 mainly German Muslims protested across German cities and frequently compared Israel with the Hitler movement. The European Union's working definition of anti-Semitism defines such comparisons between the Nazis and the Jewish state as a modern manifestation of anti-Semitism, largely because the parallel delegitimizes Israel's right to exist. The Germans are consistent in their decadence and moral bankruptcy.Could anyone... more
