I gave my love a bright red rose
As we watched the falling snow
We embraced within the shadows
Underneath the mistletoe
Carols in the distance
Reminded us this night
Of the reason for the feeling
That makes our hearts so light
For on this night of wonder
So many years before
Came to us the gift of love
That all the world adored
Twas then the revelation
Only this season can impart
Gifts of wrap and fancy dressing
Are no match for a loving heart
So we walked amongst the trees
To a clearing far below
Where we heard the songs of Angels
Beneath the stars aglow.
And we stared in abject awe
At one star amongst them all
That had a special brilliance
As to us it did call...
Bells rang as the trees swayed
In the incandescent light
As we gave to each other the greatest gift
On this very special night
Then we knelt and prayed under that star
For the Babe in swaddling clothes
As we laid the rose upon the ground
And our tears began to flow
For we realized the splendor
Of the true gifts from up above
Laughter, joy, friendship,
Passion, faith, and love
We will remember all our lives
This night spent in the snow
That he was the gift that yielded love
As the winter snow yields the Rose

In the agricultural year Samhain designated the first day of winter when cattle and sheep were taken down from their summer hills and pastures to be secured in stalls for the winter while the harvest of wheat, oats, barley, apples and turnips were gathered and baled and stored. It was a time of family reunion, preserve making, and preparing for the winter feasts to come in the new year. It was also a time of divination, when women used certain methods to divine who their lovers would be. One such method was holding a candle in a dark room while looking in a mirror while chanting words that would hopefully show your intended over your shoulder.
It is a magical time of the year when the souls of those departed are given a chance to once again visit those they left behind and loved which spawned many of the customs we still practice today such as carving Jack O'Lanterns and trick or treating.
It was and is above all a time to appreciate the bounty our Earth gives to us.
So happy Samhain/Halloween

As I read on Sue brushed by headed out to the barbecue with pitchfork in hand, pursuing the perfect piece of grilled chicken and wings for the boy. She’s the cave woman in the family – outdoor cooking, charring, etc. I’m totally short order and more of a George Carlin vegetarian – I only eat animals that died in their sleep.

I have to comment as a person who believes in the words of Jesus Christ and who thinks of him as a great man, teacher, philosopher and messenger of a message that has seemed to elude the very people who claim to be his chosen ones: the extremists who have once again taken over a media cycle with their unadulterated self indulgent, arrogant garbage, and the people pushing it. Sure, people have and are making light of this end of the world announcement, but think of what this has done in distracting from a Southwest US being inundated by flooding with thousands of people losing their farmland and homes. Not to mention wars we are still involved in, and a Gulf Coast still toxified.
These RW "true believers" have spent much money on billboards, pamphlets and other methods of getting donations for their warped cause. As Christians, why aren't you all out here helping your fellow people in need instead of being the selfish people you are in thinking of your own "salvation?" You will have no salvation living your lives thinking that your God only cares about you, and that you are somehow priviledged. You are an aberration of Christianity and an embarrassment to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
And as a Christian who has spent my entire life trying as best I can to live those teachings without arrogance, hubris or self importance because of what I believe I am ashamed to call myself a Christian today. And make no mistake about it, this isn't just a stunt to laugh at. Extremism in any religion is dangerous to the progress of humankind. I can only hope that a lesson will be learned from all of this by some who have allowed themselves and their children to be brainwashed by these deceptions that actually take them away from Christ and his teachings.
I am so saddened and outraged to see how Christianity has been so degraded by the very greed they claim to decry. I absolutely think it is way past time for all in every religion to stand up to the extremism that has done nothing but bring this world to the abyss. A seminary is a school for those interested in theology and in particular for those who plan to speak, teach, or live the word of their respective god. Unlike religious schools that teach many subjects and offer many degrees, seminaries are usually reserved only for those who plan to go into some form of preaching for a church or other form of worship practice .

Today, early morning, I had a dream in which I saw two queues of people lining up in front of the two doors in a building, with people depositing the belongings of their loved ones who were going to die…! I saw myself entering one of these rooms, out of sheer curiosity to know the fate of those dying…! I saw people lying on floor mats, one on each mat. I went deeper into the room and sat on a chair like seat and found myself expressing surprise to see a very small young child sitting on a chair-like structure in front of me…the child was all smiles and looking intently at me…
…Suddenly, my dream was broken. It was early morning. I was asked by one of the family members to check out if BRHMA were alive or dead, since there was no sound from its pigeon-house. I got up, rushed out and found BRHMA’s physical body lifeless…
…Clearly, BRHMA, the young pigeonlet had progressed in the cycle of evolution and left for experiencing the still higher form of the life, in all possibility to be born as a child…the child that I had seen in my dream…! The previous night I was thinking about this young pigeonlet’s safety…I reasoned - the young pigeonlet would survive despite all dangers if the Almighty wished so and It would die in spite of all our best efforts to ensure its safety if the Almighty wished it to move to higher life…So, why worry?
At first, I was bit sad as any human being would be. Then, I consoled myself by reminding myself of the dream…I chanted the Mahaamrtyunjaya hymn and prayed to the almighty to give the spiritual progression to BRHMA…With a sense of loss, I dug the grave, lowered BRHMA into it, sprinkled salt on it and covered the pit with the mud…!
The birds are said to have only three elements – THE EARTH, THE WATER, THE AIR and don’t have remaining two elements – THE FIRE, THE SKY. Hopefully, BRHMA shall now be born as a human being and achieve spiritual liberation.
