Gibson Guitars is being investigated by police in the US for allegedly using illegal wood to make its instruments.
Federal agents seized wood, computers, files and guitars from the company's Massman Road manufacturing facility in Nashville, Tennessee.
They were seeking evidence that Gibson shipped illegal rosewood from Madagascar via Germany.
Under America's Lacey Act firms are barred from bringing Madagascan rosewood into the US due to corruption and environmental issues, reports The Guardian.
Gibson said that they are "fully co-operating" with the federal investigation.
In a statement the company added: "Gibson is a chain of custody certified buyers that purchases wood from legal suppliers who are to follow all standards."
COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (WTVC-TV) - A Southern Adventist University student has been murdered while on a student mission project in the state of Yap in Micronesia.
A spokesperson for Southern Adventist, in Collegedale, confirms that Kirsten Wolcott, a junior liberal arts education major, was killed on Wednesday. According to the Adventist News Network, she had reportedly gone jogging by herself before morning classes and did not return.
The publication also reports that an arrest has been made in the case, but no further details were available.
"This is devastating news, not only for the family but for the school and the Adventist Church," said Homer Trecartin, associate secretary for the Adventist world church and director of Adventist Volunteer Service.
"Throughout the history of the church many have made the sacrifice to go serve and some have paid with their lives," Trecartin said. "Our prayer is that God will raise other people to finish the work that Kirsten and others started."
Ms. Wolcott, originally from the Richmond, Virginia area, was teaching second grade at the Yap Adventist School.
Wolcott was on Southern Adventist University’s distinguished dean’s list. She was also known for her love of music and running. She played the harp and piano and sang in Bel Canto, Southern’s women’s chorus.
In a statement a Southern Adventist spokesperson said, "Southern is profoundly saddened by the loss of Kirsten Wolcott. At a painful time such as this, we remember in prayer Kirsten's parents, friends, fellow Student Missionaries, and all on our campus who knew and loved her well."
The school is providing counseling services for fellow students and have set up a special web site in memory of Ms. Wolcott. They have also set up a table in the Campus Ministries area of the student center where people can leave notes and remembrances.
The public can leave messages of condolence HERE.
Yap SDA School opened in 1987 as an elementary school and subsequently expanded to a kindergarten through 12th-grade school. The school is run mostly by Adventist college students volunteering as teachers. About 10 student missionaries are serving this year in Yap, Trecartin said. Teachers live in apartments on campus.

You’ve heard of mashups, clips of seemingly unrelated video that once mashed together makes some level of sense. Now let me introduce you to the “mishmash™.”
The mishmash™ was born out of necessity as a way for me to explain messy video edits like today’s video edited from the hour long Morning Browser (a monster mishmash™, if you will). I could call it “a complete mess,” but that isn’t cool enough for me and it’s already been trademarked by mainstream media.
The dictionary says a mishmash is “a collection or mixture of unrelated things; a hodgepodge or motley assortment of things.” Webster’s can go ahead and add a new definition for mishmash™ to its 2010 list of edits.
The mishmash™ is a video that was edited in about 10 or 15 minutes before a person has to take a shower and run off to their day job. It’s often an attempt to make a mashup but very often fails, resulting in a string of bad edited clips that often have nothing to do with one another.
A mishmash™ might hint at the editor’s intended message with the short video, but very often it does not. Mishmashes demonstrate the editor had very little time or editing skills.
Giving these type videos only one gold star rating is acceptable only if they are passed off as a mashup with some purpose or meaning. But when called a mishmash™, these videos deserve 5 gold stars and worthy praise, if not a comment or two asking for more information. You’ve heard of mashups, clips of seemingly unrelated video that once mashed... more
TennCare in Tennessee has been hitting the news more today than at anytime since its conception. As a resident of Tennessee I believe the nation as a whole should listen to what people with experience in these government run programs have to say before they accept the proposed government option at face value. Trust but verify should not only apply to your enemies it should apply to all politicians.
This is from the Governor of Tennessee' website. Tennessee governor believes the unchecked growth of TennCare is a clear and present danger to the state,s economic stability. By Lord Michael Chambers Rosenthorn “If me and your homeboy can come to conclusions then they can get another album out of me.”
Since the fallout of Buck with G-Unit, the Tennessee native has been on his music hustle and has been grinding out for the streets on the mixtape circuit. Regardless of his evident potential, nothing seems to matter as his heavy grind has not been able to iron out his issues with 50 Cent and has not been able to release another album.
Calling into DJ Whoo Kid's radio station during Kid's birthday, Buck spoke on the past and the hope to find a way to reconcile their differences and move on to future endeavors.
“At the end of the day, it was really all a misunderstanding from the beginning with me and the 50 cent situation. It just was no communication to get anywhere…He took his actions and did what he had to do with it. It is what it is, my nigga, but if there's room for a nigga to make something work, I would be less of a man to not be open to it. I'm bout making money.”
Buck has been able to survive the storm and has stated that he may have come out with cuts and bruises, but pain is necessary for growth as he has come back even stronger and much smarter than he was as it relates to the actual music as well as the business aspect.
“This ain't the same Buck that you seen 3 or 4 years ago. My mind is better, my physical shit is on. Everything is together my nigga. I came in this game to be in this game long term. I didn't come in to come and go.”
Although he has no qualms with his former group, Buck stated his preference to continue on his own as he was not able to be himself while in the group. His mixtapes and glimpses in his second album Buck The World, show a different side to the rapper and the fact that he may not have fit into the mold, which also made him a standout in the group.
It is necessary, however, that 50 and Buck has an actual one-on-one with another face to face and discontinue the discussions over the phone.
“In certain situations, I feel like I'm right and he's wrong and vice versa. We just need to have a real nigga conversation face to face. This phone shit don't work. I don't mind coming to a nigga and looking a nigga in his eye.”
As time has progressed, the beef on wax has trickled down to reality with the recent escalation of violence among the youth, particularly the Black community. Accept it or reject it, Hip-Hop is becoming the role model so instances such as these to make peace should not be taken for granted.By Lord Michael Chambers Rosenthorn “If me and your homeboy can come to conclusions... more

InternetFuse's John Morgan joined me on today's Morning Browser for a much longer conversation about his upcoming appearance at Barcamp Nashville 2009 (Oct. 17, 2009 at the Cadillac Ranch).
This is a quick edit from a much larger conversation. My apologies for condensing it down. I wish I could have put the entire thing up as it is. Barcamp Nashville takes place Saturday Oct. 17th at the Cadillac Ranch in Nashville, TN.
"Less than two months into the school year, White Station High School Principal David Mansfield and 11th grade Principal Eric Harris have been charged with the misdemeanor offense. At the school Monday morning, they were each served with a summons to appear in Juvenile Court Nov. 3. Each charge carries a maximum fine of $2,500 but no jail time.
The charges stem from a Sept. 18 incident in which a 17-year-old White Station senior was beaten in the school by a group of girls who left her lying “on the floor in the fetal position.” The injured and bleeding girl was “crying too hard” to tell what had happened, according to an anonymous witness quoted in the criminal complaint.
But she later calmed down and was taken to a school nurse where her injuries, which were minor, were treated. No one at the school called police.""Less than two months into the school year, White Station High School Principal David... more
The idea is to allow people to curate lists of Twitter accounts. For example, you could create a list of the funniest Twitter accounts of all time, athletes, local businesses, friends, or any compilation that makes sense. Lists are public by default (but can be made private) and the lists you've created are linked from your profile. Other Twitter users can then subscribe to your lists. This means lists have the potential to be an important new discovery mechanism for great tweets and accounts. The idea is to allow people to curate lists of Twitter accounts. For example, you... more
