Nearly 600 people were arrested as global leaders and elites met behind a fortified perimeter during the G8 and G20 Summits in Huntsville and Toronto this past weekend. In the months leading up to the summit, protesters were under surveillance by the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service. Canada budgeted more than $970 million for security for the two summits.Nearly 600 people were arrested as global leaders and elites met behind a fortified... more

A poll prepared by Ipsos-Reid shows that while a majority of Canuckistanis would like to believe that they are big shooters on the world stage--just in time for the upcoming G8/G20 summits--the rest of the world doesn't really give a darn, oops, sorry for the foul language, eh?

The Court of Appeal in Genoa decided that the prefect Gianni De Gennaro is guilty of incitement to perjury about the school Diaz raid. De Gennaro will probably appeal the sentence. So, after almost ten years, we won't know the truth about the Genoa violence.

Once again the global pimps get together to split the pie and throw us crumbs. The G8 will meet one last time in Hunstville, Ontario to morph into the G20 who will meet in Toronto on June 26th and 27th. These are closed door meetings where our “democratically” elected leaders make decisions not just for the countries they represent, but for the world.
The gatherings against these meetings are of the utmost importance, not only because we tell these leaders that we do no recognize their authority, but because we show show solidarity with people power movements the world over. If you need a little convincing, my peeps out east, Testament and Illogik AKA Test Their Logik with a little help from Anarkid, cranked out this dope track and video to light insurgent fires under yo ass.
subMedia.TV will be on the streets covering the rebellions in Toronto this June. Simultaneously, Free Speech TV will be covering the US Social Forum, the people's answer to the corporate elites, live from nearby Detroit--ground zero for our current economic collapse and its effect on the country's workers. Ignoring Lake Ontario and a few thousand other real lakes within spitting distance of the G20 summit site in Toronto, the Canadian government has constructed an indoor "fake lake" complete with cardboard forest backdrops and deck chairs to wow visiting world leaders. Don't worry about the cost, though. It's only money, eh?

The police chiefs knew what was happening and did nothing to prevent the massacre: that's why the judges of the Court of Appeal of Genoa have sentenced 25 of the 27 policemen defendants to almost 100 years in prison for the violence in the Diaz school during Genoa G8 in 2001.

In the shadow of the G8 Summit starting today in L'Aquia Italy (July 8-10 2009), The Mind Pirates have released their documentary with 100 directors online and offer it for free for all to see and share. This copyleft approach to film distribution hopes the voices and actions of the past, can teach and inspire the voices of the future.
The 2007 G8 Summit in Heiligendamm, Germany - A summer fairytale, a blooming corn poppy, a brilliant blue sky. An unbelievably large and menacing fence cuts through the picturesque landscape. Police caravans, journalists, and activists face off for days in these fields like medieval armies. Elsewhere, artists despair over a public that confuses pop with protest. Bob Geldof, Bono, and Herbert Grönemeyer preach on the "Your Voice Against Poverty" stage, while Rostock locals would obviously rather be eating a bratwurst. Left-wing anarchists try to set everything on fire, though they only manage to get to one car and a few trash bins. Interviews with the likes of Muhammad Yunus (winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize), Wim Wenders (filmmaker), Susan George (former vice-president of ATTAC France), Bono (U2 frontman), and Campino (singer of Die Toten Hosen) are mixed in with questions and commentary from police, activists, and locals.
TROUBLE presents a broad spectrum of voices and impressions around the G8 Summit. A team of 100 filmmakers, editors, photographers, designers, bloggers, programmers, project managers, and one cook made up the dropping knowledge summercamp. With their own eyes and perspectives, they produced over 100 short films in only 2 weeks. "Our people came back from riots, concerts, and political discussions, sat down at their computer, and edited their films that night," recalls project initiator and producer Ralf Schmerberg. "Meanwhile, in the next room, someone was composing music and designing graphics for the films. Before the next morning, the films would already be on the Internet, which created competition for mainstream media outlets." Once they returned to Berlin, the team faced a mountain of material and shaped it into TROUBLE, a feature-length cinematic journal of those eventful weeks in Rostock. Many pieces came together as one, resulting in a film comprised of many different styles, and one that constantly shifts between G8 events, giving the impression that everything is happening all at once.In the shadow of the G8 Summit starting today in L'Aquia Italy (July 8-10 2009),... more

President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy trade places on a dais with "Junior G8" delegates.
On first glance, the snapshot appears to show President Obama caught in a moment of less than lofty analysis. But upon looking at the video, producers back in DC tell me, the moment seems to actually be quite innocent -- one of those times when a picture can be misleading. The president was on a higher step and was stepping down -- so he looked down to assure his footing as the woman was walking up the stairs.President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy trade places on a dais with... more

Six Greenpeace activists scale the Federico II coal power plant in Brindisi, Italy, demanding strong leadership from the G8 on climate. Photograph: Greenpeace
Four coal-fired power stations in several parts of Italy were today occupied by Greenpeace activists as G8 leaders met in L'Aquila to discuss issues including action on climate change. More than 100 Greenpeace activists from 18 countries took part in the protests, which hope to draw attention to the group's campaign for action by world leaders on cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
One of the targets was Italy's biggest coal-burning power station at Brindisi in south-eastern Italy where protestors climbed the chimney and occupied the conveyor belt carrying coal into the plant.
A local news agency quoted one of the demonstrators as saying the power station's management had started the belt while the Greenpeace activists were still on it. "At first, they didn't know we were on the conveyor belt", said Serena Bianchi. "Then we went to tell them, but even then we had some difficulty in persuading them to stop everything."
The organisation also occupied working plants near Venice and Genoa and staged a protest at an old oil-fired power station at Porto Tolle in northern Italy that is being converted to coal. The UK activist Ben Stewart, who previously climbed the Kingsnorth coal power station in 2007 and today climbed a 160ft chimney at a site near Venice, said: "Politicians talk but leaders act. The G8 leaders must stop putting the interests of big coal and other climate polluting industries ahead of the planet and take strong, decisive leadership on climate change."
Greenpeace is campaigning for carbon dioxide emissions to be cut by 40% by 2020 from their 1990 levels, and the group is also seeking a pledge from the G8 nations to provide developing countries with more than $100bn a year for action on climate change.
There have been several other protests in Italy ahead of the G8 meeting. Ten people were arrested on Tuesday, and five were detained yesterday near L'Aquila where the conference is being held.Six Greenpeace activists scale the Federico II coal power plant in Brindisi, Italy,... more
