Designed with a whopping 30,875 square feet of space, the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom waterfront home dwarfs nearby mansions and could end up the largest home in Hillsborough County. It's roughly the size of a BestBuy electronics store and twice the size of the previous No. 1 house, just across Hillsborough Bay on Bayshore Boulevard, owned by Lazydays RV SuperCenter founder Don Wallace.
Kered Connors LLC, which lists Jeter as the "sole member," purchased adjacent waterfront lots on Davis Islands' Bahama Circle in 2005 and 2006. ("Kered" spells "Derek" backward.) Kered Connors paid $7.7 million for the properties at Bahama Circle and Baffin Avenue.

George Steinbrenner, a towering and intimidating figure who dominated the New York sports scene for 35 years, winning 11 American League pennants and seven world championships as owner of the Yankees, in and around two suspensions from baseball and multiple feuds and firings, died Tuesday morning in Tampa after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 80.
"The Boss" - as he was so aptly named by Daily News columnist Mike Lupica, his longtime antagonist - died at around 6:30 a.m. He had been suffering from failing health, the result of a series of strokes, for the past few years.
His family released a statement Tuesday morning. "It is with profound sadness that the family of George M. Steinbrenner III announces his passing," the statement said. "He was an incredible and charitable man. First and foremost he was devoted to his entire family - his beloved wife, Joan; his sisters, Susan Norpell and Judy Kamm, his children, Hank, Jennifer, Jessica and Hal; and all his grandchildren. He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again."

How the New Yankee Stadium Turned Parks into Parking Lots
From the article>>
When the Yankees opened their new stadium and pinstriped stars like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera ran onto the field for the first time, the cheers of delirious New York fans echoed for miles. But to environmentalists and residents in surrounding neighborhoods, a Bronx cheer seems a more appropriate response to the new Yankee Stadium project, which they say isn’t nearly green enough, grass notwithstanding.
A baseball’s throw from the storied old yard that housed the Bronx Bombers from 1923-2008, the new Yankee Stadium opened to fanfare this spring. While the park accommodates fewer spectators (52,325, including standing room), it boasts more concessionaires, restrooms and nearly double the retail space of the old haunts. There are also more luxury suites: 56 instead of 19, plus 410 “party suites.”
The high-rolling Yankees have long led the major leagues in financial clout, and New York’s new $1.3 billion home looks like a license to print money. Front-row seats sell for $2,500 each and some fans are committing to season ticket plans for as long as 10 years.
But don’t expect to see parks advocates lined up at the turnstiles. They and some of the stadium’s Bronx neighbors are furious at the Yankees and the city for building over more than 25 acres of public parkland and cutting down 377 mature trees, 70% of the local tree population in a poor area that already had a sky-high asthma rate.
“I started crying when I saw security guarding a public park that they had seized,” says Geoffrey Croft, president of New York City Park Advocates and outspoken opponent of the stadium project. “Kids were crying while they chopped down these trees with no warning whatsoever.”
Critics cite among their grievances the secretive nature of the city’s deal to allow the Yankees to pave over popular Macombs Dam and John Mullaly parks, which was negotiated and signed before the public was informed, they say. Protests and legal actions against the project were unsuccessful.
“Everybody just loves the Yankees so much that they wouldn’t even consider what the people had to say,” says Karen Argenti, a board member of the Bronx Council for Environmental Quality, which also opposed the new stadium. “There were no elected officials who would stand up for the community. It was impossible to get a fair hearing.”
As part of the deal, the Yankees and New York City promised to replace the lost open space with multiple parks that will be individually smaller but greater in total combined acreage.
The bulldozed park.
“It’s never easy letting go of a nice old park,” says Josh Laird, assistant commissioner for planning of the New York Parks Department. “Macombs Dam Park had a nice stand of mature elm trees and others. We understand why people in the community had concerns with the project. But when we’re finished, they’ll have more and better parks.”
For instance, the old Yankee Stadium will be demolished to make room for the new Heritage Field, which will contain three fields for baseball and softball. The roof of the new stadium’s parking structure will be the new seven-acre Macombs Dam Park, replete with running track, basketball courts and fitness equipment. Other parks will have tennis courts, picnic areas, play equipment and green space.
None of the new parks are yet open. Heritage Field has suffered the greatest delay, and now looks to open in 2011.
Too little, too late, say park advocates. “These people lived across the street from a park where children had a chance to play. Now they live across from a stadium and a bunch of parking lots,” says Argenti.

Also maddening is the delay in tearing down the old Yankee Stadium, especially when the city’s Mets left their old park at the same time and tore down Shea Stadium...How the New Yankee Stadium Turned Parks into Parking Lots

The Yanks have some MONEY in the Bank
Tuesday November 17th, 2008
Since free agency started last Thursday, I can already hear whining and trash-talking from baseball clubs and fans regarding the New York Yankees. For about 20 years I have been a loyal fan to the greatest sports franchise of all time, and I am sick of people crying over the fact the Yankees sign the best of baseball year after year. It’s not our fault that the Yankees have money and the option to pick and choose players as they please. Put it this way, if you had an extra $250 million to spend on a 2009 Maserati GranTurismo over a Corvette, you would. Or how about paying off your mortgage, or being able to get an Ivy League education with out any loans because you have the money to. Just because the Steinbrenner family is gracious enough to douse the Yankees with their hard earned money doesn’t give anyone a say on the matter. That’s baseball, the American pastime which has been a part of our country with the likes of Uncle Sam and apple pie. So please, spare my fellow fans and I the annoyance we hear year after year about how it’s not fair. As the New York Post said today, “The Yankees, for the second time inside a week, are on the verge of making an eye-popping offer to a free-agent pitcher and behaving like the days when The Boss threw money at free agents with both hands.” EAT IT UP ALL YOU YANKEE HATERS OUT THERE.
In just a few days after the $140 million offer to CC Sabathia made last Friday, the Yankees are pursuing talent with their dollar signs yet again. The club is already hoping to build a powerhouse pitching rotation with Sabathia, who is deemed baseball’s best-compensated pitcher. The addition of Burnett would most likely put the Yankees in a position of domination in the American League. This is exactly what the team, the city of New York, and the fans are in dire need of after a 2008 mediocre season.
The New York Post reported on Tuesday that the Yankees are building an offer -- perhaps a five-year deal in the neighborhood of $80 million -- to present to Burnett, who became a free agent when he opted out of his contract with the Blue Jays on Thursday.
The talent and productivity Burnett showcased proves he is worth every penny. Last seasons numbers undoubtedly preview what is in store if Burnett is signed. Burnett will turn 32 in January, having gone 18-10 with a 4.07 ERA for the Blue Jays this past season. Not to mention coming off a career-high in victories, the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder is easily the second-best pitcher on the free-agent market behind Sabathia, so $15 million to $16 million a season for four or five years isn't out of the question. If that wasn’t enough he also led the American League with 34 starts and 231 strikeouts, fanning 9.39 batters per nine innings. To all those Yankees “haters” worldwide, why not shell out the dough if you can.

In a society which has grown so nationalistic in recent years, I am seldom shocked at hearing about examples which illustrate this, but restricting someone from using the bathroom when during a rendition of God Bless America at a baseball game is even more ridiculous than usual! A devilish Boston fan working on a concrete crew at the new $1.3 billion Yankee Stadium covertly buried a Red Sox T-shirt under what will become the visiting team's locker room to jinx the Yanks.
The culprit is a mason - born and raised in the Country Club section of southeast Bronx.
"As I stuck it in, I said, 'The Yankees are done for the next 30 years.' I only put a 30-year curse because I'm 46 and in 30 years I'll be dead, and I won't care if the Yankees win then," said "Gino," who spoke from a construction job in Manhattan.

Apparently Alex Rodriguez is following Joe Torre to the Dodgers. In his move, Alex is said to be taking a small paycut from his average $33 million a year and Yankees fans won't have so much to gloat about. so basically it's a win-win! What a shocker - Scott Boras wants A-Rod to opt-out of his current deal that pays him $25M a season in order to get a longer deal that could net him possibly $30M per. Insane.
Since Boras feels that Rodriguez's looming free agency is more valuable than any other player's, he will undoubtedly recommend that Rodriguez, 32, forgo the potential $91 million left on his deal. Boras would not estimate what Rodriguez could make on the open market, but it is believed that Boras could seek a 10-year contract for $300 million for his client.
Where's he going? My guess is Angels, Dodgers or Cubbies. I can see him wearing the Angels red and forming a nasty 1-2 with Vladdy for a long time. What a shocker - Scott Boras wants A-Rod to opt-out of his current deal that pays him... more
