The number of anti-Semitic attacks in London has risen sharply following Israel's land assault on Gaza, Jewish community groups said today.
Their leaders have compiled a dossier of attacks against Jews which will be handed to seniors officers in the Metropolitan police.
The attacks include claims of:
* An attempt to burn down a synagogue in north-west London.
* An assault on a Jewish motorist who was pulled from his car and punched.
* A gang of youths chanting anti-Semitic slogans as they tried to enter restaurants and shops in Golders Green.
The Community Security Trust, which is responsible for the safety of Jews in Britain, has also noted the emergence of anti-Semitic graffiti in Jewish areas across London.
Slogans sprayed on walls include: 'Kill Jews' and 'Jews are scumbags.'
The trust has now logged 24 anti-Semitic incidents - most of them in London - in the past week. Police are said to be stepping up patrols in Jewish areas.
Mark Gardner, the trust's spokesman, told the Standard: 'There has been a significant rise in the number of anti-Semitic incidents, especially when compared with what is usually a very quiet time of year for racist, anti-Jewish attacks.
'It is a pattern with which we and police are now sadly familiar, whereby hysteria is whipped up against Israel: and British Jews then suffer a wave of anti-Semitism.'
The arson attack on the synagogue in Brondesbury took place on Sunday night. The arsonists first tried to smash open a window but failed because of the toughened glass in place to protect such buildings from terrorist attacks.
Mr Gardner said: 'Having been thwarted they then appear to have attempted to set the front door alight with petrol, causing some damage to the exterior of the premises. Police, CST and fire brigade attended the scene.'
On New Year's Eve, a man was pulled from his car just as he was about to drive off and assaulted by three men whom he described as being of Arab appearance.
The victim did not suffer any serious injury. The same night a gang of youths alarmed locals in Golders Green by trying to enter Jewish shops while chanting anti-Israeli slogans.
Joey Ben-Yoav, manager of nearby Met Su Yan, a kosher Chinese restaurant in Golders Green, said: "It was scary. They were waving flags and shouting. It felt like if we went out they would hit us or something.
'They walked past a few Jews and just shouted 'Jew' at them. They did not look like they were in the mood for making peace.'The number of anti-Semitic attacks in London has risen sharply following Israel's... more

The governing party of Malaysia used anti-Semitic propaganda to try to turn public opinion against an opposition leader when he was running for parliament.
The , which has dominated parliament for over half a century, circulated a pamphlet alleging that former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was "surrounded by Jews," The New York Times reported. It included pictures of him with two former World Bank presidents, Paul Wolfowitz and James Wolfensohn.
"These are the only weapons that UMNO can use against Anwar — relying on xenophobia to sustain its support," Tian Chua, a member of parliament and an adviser to Anwar, told the Times.
The strategy failed. Anwar, who in 2008 was named one of Time's 100 most influential people, won the parliamentary seat in a landslide on Aug. 26. At press time, he was poised to break the governing party's stronghold after enough of their members defected to the opposition.
Although the pamphlet targeting Anwar was particularly ugly, anti-Semitism isn't new to Malaysia, which has a tiny Jewish population. In October 2003, at a gathering of leaders at the Organization of the Islamic Conference summit, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad made an anti-Jewish remark that was greeted with loud applause. "The Europeans killed 6 million Jews out of 12 million," Mahathir said, "but today the Jews rule the world by proxy. They get others to fight and die for them."
Two decades earlier, Mahathir had cancelled a visit by the New York Philharmonic after learning that they planned to perform a piece by a Jewish composer. He also initially barred the acclaimed film "Schindler's List" from being shown in Malaysia because, he said, its purpose was to garner sympathy for Jews. Furthermore, he has made speeches accusing Zionists of controlling the media and trying to wreck the country's economy. The governing party of Malaysia used anti-Semitic propaganda to try to turn public... more

Anti-Jewish commentary is flooding the Internet in the wake of Bernard Madoff's arrest on charges of masterminding one of the biggest Wall Street frauds in history, campaigners said Friday.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said there had been "an outpouring of anti-Semitic comments on mainstream and extremist Web sites."
Madoff, 70, is Jewish and a prominent member of the powerful US Jewish community. He is alleged to have defrauded investors, including a number of Jewish-related charities, of some 50 billion dollars.
"Site users have posted comments ranging from deeply offensive stereotypical statements about Jews and money -- with some suggesting that only Jews could perpetrate a fraud on such a scale -- to conspiracy theories about Jews stealing money to benefit Israel," the ADL said in a statement.
"Jews are always a convenient scapegoat in times of crisis, but the Madoff scandal and the fact that so many of the defrauded investors are Jewish has created a perfect storm for the anti-Semites," said Abraham Foxman, ADL national director.
"Nowadays, the first place Jew-haters will go is to the Internet, where they can give voice to their hateful ideas without fear of repercussions."

Israel is nothing like Apartheid.
As South African Minister of Home Affairs Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi declared during a visit to Israel in 2003, “The Israeli regime is not apartheid. It is a unique case of democracy.”
Even Jimmy Carter had to admit, “There is nothing in Israel resembling apartheid.”
Apartheid was a legal system that enforced discrimination, segregation and oppression based on skin color. Israel is the opposite. Its legal system enforces equal civil and political rights for all citizens regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.
Israelis are a vibrant multiracial, multi-ethnic mix of people from all over the world, and the 20 percent non-Jewish minority enjoys the same freedoms and protections. Gays, Christians, Congolese and Sudanese fleeing from persecution have received refuge in Israel.
Israel is the only Middle Eastern country where the Christian population is thriving.
Israeli-Arabs have a higher standard of living, education, and civil and political liberties than average citizens living in any other Middle Eastern country.
Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza are not Israeli citizens. They want their own state, not Israeli citizenship.
When Palestinians attack Israelis, over 80 percent were civilians versus when Israel responses, there are only 36 percent civilian Palestinian casualties. That tells you who is targeting civilians, and who is targeting the bad guys.Israel is nothing like Apartheid.

Members of the under-21 rugby team at Oxford University were asked to attend a "bring a fit Jew party" where they were told to dress up as Orthodox Jews by taping sidelocks to their heads and carry bags of money with them.
According to the article "the Jewish community" condemned the party saying it was "at best insensitive and ignorant: at worst blatantly antisemitic".
The captain of the under-21 team, Phil Boon, said he "didn't see what the problem was" mentioning that Jewish girls had accepted invites to the party. "I can understand why it might have offended some people, but it would have been an awesome social."

In the story below, you will find my "Peace Solution" and find out that after Israel handed over Josephs Tomb to the Palestinians, the Jews made monthly pilgrimages to the tomb to pray. Thats cool and fair. Then, the Jewish settlers said this is one way they can keep a hold on this city and Palestine. They have now recently decided to take weekly visits there and from what I can read between the lines is that there will be a major problem. Give the Jewish people some trust, and they go for the juggler.
There is also a peace plan I outlined below..you know, "...don't bring a problem unless you have a possible solution"..I brought a solution here...please add to it if you want..but be fair.
What I see happening here (in the below linked story) is that the Palestinians will again get very mad at the fact that Jewish people are once again taking land and seizing what they deem theirs because of religious reasons. Then, the jews in return will say they were defending themselves, their normal Method of Operation. Of course, according to the jews, they, the Palestinians cannot defend themselves and if they do, they are attacking them for no reason. Phooey I say! If Palestinians went into Israel and took land away, what do you think will happen? Of course, they will be labeled as terrorists.
Israel needs to change the methods if they are serious about peace in the region..in the world! How, you may ask...
OK....here's the 2 sided plan, Israel:
Side 1...Israel
1.Tell Palestine you want to make friends...you will pull back and release land illegally taken by the military and by settlers. Then, Stop taking land illegally.
2. You will pour money into helping to rebuild their infrastructure, including returning water rights, children's education and government. (this is beginning already with some EU countries pouring money into their infrastructure)
3. You find a way to make it easier to cross boarders while at the same time not losing any security (I know this sounds far fetched for you, Israel, but it can be done)
4. Either release or give 'Due Process' to any political prisoners you have captured (This 'Due Process' is a basic right in a democracy...your country is, a Democracy, isn't it?)
5. Destroy the walls surrounding the cities...there are other methods to protect your boarders. Then again, if you return land that was illegally taken, those walls are useless.
--------did I miss anything?................
Now........................................................
Palestine....Side 2
1. Make friends with Israel. Let Israel have unrestricted passage to holy places and ensure their people will be safe
2. Turn any militants into a protective force for your people. Outlaw rocket attacks and Suicide bombings. Offer money for rockets being dropped off. Give immunity to those dropping them off for a nice tidy sum of money.
3. return any prisoners of war/hostages and or give due process as stated in 'Side 1'
4. Build a holy temple of Peace between each border, where both Palestinians and Jews can come together and talk about working together. A 'Neutral Zone' if you will. foster understanding between your two cultures
5. Turn those walls into works of art by your people....worlds of love and understanding and trust that you have for the New Palestine. Once Israel agrees to take them down, save those works of art and share them with the world.
-------------did I miss anything here?
For both sides...trust each other....you and we, all want to live in Peace. Here is the actual link to the story..for some strange reason, NYTimes would not allow it......meanwhile, peace to all

Pupils from a suburban St. Louis middle school allegedly hit Jewish classmates. District spokesman: There is a mix of sadness and outrage
Associated Press
At least four students from a suburban St. Louis middle school face punishment for allegedly hitting Jewish classmates during what they called "Hit a Jew Day."
The incident happened last week at Parkway West Middle School in Chesterfield.
District officials said Thursday they believe that fewer than 10 children of the district's 35 Jewish students were struck.
District spokesman Paul Tandy said that in most cases, the students were hit on the back of their shoulders but one student was slapped in the face.
It began with an unofficial "Spirit Week" among sixth-graders that started harmlessly enough with a "Hug a Friend Day." Then there was "High Five Day."
Soon, though, the days moved from friendly to silly. Next there was "Hit a Tall Person Day" and, finally, "Hit a Jew Day."
District officials believe a handful of children were directly involved. Those who actually struck classmates could face suspension and required counseling, Tandy said. Others who weren't directly involved but taunted Jewish students or egged on classmates could face lesser penalties.
"There is a mix of sadness and outrage," Tandy said. "The concern is a lot of kids knew about it and they didn't take action or say anything."
Karen Aroesty, St. Louis regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, said this was more than a case of bullying. Officials from the group plan to discuss the matter with school leaders.Pupils from a suburban St. Louis middle school allegedly hit Jewish classmates.... more

New York City police are investigating a rabbi's complaint that threatening e-mails were sent to try to stop a ritual involving the slaughter of chickens before a Jewish holy day.
Rabbi Shea Hecht of the National Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Education says the e-mails were sent by supporters of a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals campaign opposing the ritual, known as Kapparot.
He says some people added threatening and anti-Semitic comments to an online PETA form letter.
The ritual involves the slaughter of a chicken to atone for one's sins before Yom Kippur, which begins Wednesday.
The Brooklyn-based organization slaughters about 4,000 chickens.
A PETA spokesman says the ritual is abusive and unnecessary.
The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.

I find it fascinating that in this day and age countries are arresting and jailing people for studying and publishing their findings of historical facts.
Acting on German arrest warrant, British police take Gerald Toben into custody on charges of publishing anti-Semitic material, perpetrating Holocaust denial.
British police arrested Gerald Fredrick Toben on Wednesday on charges of Holocaust denial. The 64-year-old Australian citizen was taken into custody upon arrival at Heathrow Airport on charges of publishing and distributing anti-Semitic material and Holocaust denial and revisionism.
An EU warrant for Toben's arrest was issued by Germany authorities. He has served time in a German prison after being convicted on inciting racism.
"From 2002 to this day the worldwide, internet publication of an anti-Semitic and, or, revisionist nature deliberately contrary to historical truth the said publications deny, approve or play down above all the mass murder of the Jews, planned and implemented, by the national socialist rulers," reads the warrant.
In 2006 Toben traveled to Tehran to take part in the 'International Conference to Review the Global Vision of the Holocaust.' Toben told an Iranian audience that evidence of gas chambers are "the products of a feverish pathological mind filled with pure hatred, mostly directed against Germans and anything German." He maintained that those who believe in the gas chambers display "an appalling state of ignorance of natural and chemical processes".

The book's cover depicted a Jew with a hooked nose dressed in traditional clothes drawing the outlines of dead bodies on the ground.
Written by student members of the Basij militia, the book comes two years after an Iranian newspaper commissioned a competition of Holocaust-themed cartoons.
Despite an international outcry, the Iranian government later in 2006 hosted a Holocaust conference featuring a number of revisionist historians.
Inside pages have pictures of bearded Jews shown leaving and re-entering a gas chamber with a counter that reads 5,999,999.
Another picture shows a hospital patient covered in an Israeli flag and on life support, breathing Zyklon-B, the poisonous gas used in the death camps.
The education minister, Alireza Ali-Ahmadi, was taking part in an official rally for Qods Day - an annual event to show solidarity with Palestinians. In recent years - since the election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president in 2005 - the event has grown more vocal and angry.
At a Qods Day rally in that year, Mr Ahmadinejad first said that Israel would be "wiped from the map". He has since used similarly aggressive language.

Fresh from the shocking recent revelation that the brother of former England footballer Stuart Pearce is an active member of the British National Party, there is worrying news that the party can now boast another relative of a national treasure within its unseemly ranks.
To the noise of collective jaw-dropping among EastEnders fans everywhere, it transpires Angela Reid, the youngest daughter of the late but much-loved stand-up Mike Reid, was due to stand on behalf of the BNP as a candidate at next month's council by-election in Braintree, Essex. The election has come up after the Conservative councillor Bill Rose recently decided to stand down.
Reid was apparently all set to contest the seat until the weekend, when I'm told she decided to withdraw from the race for "personal reasons".
"She would have been an excellent candidate for us and it's a terrible shame that she won't be running this time but we've got plenty of candidates for the future elsewhere," says a BNP spokesman, hastily adding that her U-turn had nothing to do with any political misgivings she may be feeling.
"Not at all, she is 100 per cent behind the party," he insisted. "Her withdrawal is purely personal.
"In fact, she is one of our loyalist members and strongest supporters."
For all their words of support, party activists must secretly be seething.
Since Reid's withdrawal has occurred after the deadline for candidate applications, the party will now not be able to run a replacement.

Three Jewish teens were attacked by a group of Muslim African immigrants in Paris on Saturday evening, a French police spokeswoman said yesterday. The Jewish teens, ages 17 and 18, who have been identified as Dan Nebet, Kevin Bitan and David Boaziz, are leaders of the Bnei Akiva youth group in Paris' 19th District.
Thiery Nebet, Dan's father, told Haaretz over the phone that according to what his son had said, as they were walking down the street, "Four or five Arabs of African origin started to throw walnuts at Kevin. When he went up to them to ask them why they did it, they surrounded him and knocked him down. Dan and David moved in and very quickly more Arabs joined in and started to beat the three with their fists and with chains."
The Jewish teens were hospitalized, one with a broken nose and jaw and all three with bruises, and filed a police report after their release. Police opened an investigation and are looking for the Muslim teenagers allegedly responsible for the attacks.

According to the chairman of the Jewish Students Union in France, Raphael Haddad, barrages of stones were thrown at the three teens during the attack. Haddad also said the incident occured on Petit Street in the 19th District, not far from where a 17-year-old Jewish youth was attacked and seriously injured by immigrants on June 21.
The attack is one of a long series of racial attacks in Europe in general and in France in particular. France has Western Europe's largest population of both Jews and Muslims.
The assault was condemned by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and was described by Jewish organizations as an act of anti-Semitism.
The Jewish Agency's envoy in Paris, Rafi Zaush, told Army Radio that attacks in the 19th District are common but most incidents are less violent and therefore not reported by the media. The French ministerial committee to fight racism and anti-Semitism showed concern over the incidents in the 19th District and turned to the mayor, requesting he beef up police presence ahead of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
The French Ministry of the Interior confirmed that the attack was motivated by anti-Semitism, saying the incident ended with relatively little damage.
According to Thiery Nebet a large number of Jews live in the 19th District and, "The atmosphere here is difficult. Now I need to protect our sons so they will not talk a great deal, because that is what we were told by the community's security people. This time it was my son; it can be anyone. The Jews want to live in peace but it's impossible with the Arabs here. We go around with a skullcap and that bothers them, but we don't care. If we have to take off our skullcaps to live better, it's better to leave now."
Benjamin Touati, head of the French desk of World Bnei Akiva, said yesterday: "The situation is very worrisome. One hundred meters from the place of the attack is a Habad school with 1800 female students." Three Jewish teens were attacked by a group of Muslim African immigrants in Paris on... more

Channel 4's documentary 'Dispatches / Undercover Mosque: The Return', which first aired on Monday, 1st September, claims anti-Semitism and homophobia are being preached at a leading British mosque.
"A female reporter attends prayer meetings at an important British mosque which claims to be dedicated to moderation and dialogue with other faiths." said Channel 4. "She secretly films shocking sermons given to the women-only congregation in which female preachers recite extremist and intolerant beliefs. As hundreds of women and some children come to pray, a preacher calls for adulterers, homosexuals, women who act like men and Muslim converts to other faiths to be killed, saying: "Kill him, kill him. You have to kill him, you understand. This is Islam.""
The programme will also feature Muslims and Islamic academics who reject and condemn these teachings of intolerance and segregation and warn of the impact this version of Islam is having on British society.
In May Channel 4 and independent film maker Hard Cash accepted damages and an apology at the High Court following a row over the original Undercover Mosque documentary, broadcast in January 2007. Israel will almost surely boycott the next U.N. racism conference in Geneva, its ambassador said Wednesday, warning that the meeting is likely to sink into the same anti-Semitism that prompted the U.S. and Israel to walk out of the last one seven years ago.
Itzhak Levanon, the Jewish state's departing U.N. envoy in Geneva, said the event April 20-25, would need to be completely reworked for Israel to participate.
"We want them to discuss human rights, and not only focus on Israel and turning this into an anti-Semitic event," he said in an interview with The Associated Press. "We will attend the meeting only if there is a radical, substantive change."
The World Conference Against Racism ended three days before the Sept. 11, with a declaration and program of action that divided countries even as they agreed to it.
Levanon said the anti-Israel speeches at Durban were a "shame" and that Israel would not have any part in a repetition. But he said the nations that led the attacks on Israel have offered no encouraging signs that the next meeting will be different.
"Yes, the Europeans say it should not be anti-Semitic and the Israelis are demanding a focus on human rights around the world," he said. "But what about those that did the bashing? They've said nothing."
Canada is the only country that has explicitly said it will not take part in "Durban II," arguing the meeting will promote racism and not combat it. In ads that appeared in April in newspapers such as the New York Sun and The Washington Times, 25 people including Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, law professor Alan Dershowitz and former CIA Director James Woolsey urged the U.S. to also skip the event, labeling it anti-Semitic.Israel will almost surely boycott the next U.N. racism conference in Geneva, its... more

There was a 9% rise in anti-Semitic incidents in the UK in the first half of 2008 compared with the same period last year, the Community Security Trust (CST) reported.
There were 266 incidents up to June, compared with 244 last year. Some 166 were incidents of abusive behaviour, including verbal abuse, hate mail and anti-Semitic graffiti. Worryingly, incidents involving Jewish students or academics and at colleges rose 88%, from 26 to 49. There were also 29 incidents affecting Jewish schools and schoolchildren. Violent assaults were down, from 54 in the first six months of 2007, to 42.
Outside the biggest Jewish communities in London and Manchester, CST recorded 98 incidents in 38 different areas. "This is partly explained by efforts made by CST to improve contact with smaller Jewish communities beyond the main urban centres, and goes some way to explaining the overall rise in incidents," the charity said.
John Mann MP, chair of the parliamentary group against anti-Semitism, said the report reflected improved reporting of incidents involving students and smaller communities.
"By knowing the scale of the problem we can deploy strategies to combat anti-Semitism from our streets and our campuses," he said. "Every anti-Semitic attack is a blight on society."
