Since chivalry has its roots in medieval times, is it possible that it developed as a direct response to attitudes toward women that were observed in the Middle East during the Crusades? It seems plausible that crusaders might have been exposed to practices such as stoning to punish adultery and honor killings which seemed to treat women poorly, and decided to adopt attitudes that focused on honoring the woman instead...

An article in the January issue of Middle East Architect initially had me chomping at the bit to read more about what I view a rather exciting topic, or rather marriage of topics; sustainability, lighting and design. The author, however, falls short of answering his own question. Readers are left, then with the challenge of exporing these complex subjects themselves.
How have developments in design and particularly lighting design impacted architectural practice and have such developments led to gains in sustainability?

MTV Arabia was launched over the weekend, giving young Arabs a tailored and sanitized taste of the hip-hop-pop-reality tv channel. MTV Arabia is to feature 60% international music and local adaptations of the popular non-music shows (The Real World, Dubai?)
"But MTV, which is known for airing provocative videos featuring scantily clad women, says the Arab version of the pop-culture channel will show less bare skin and profanity."
MTV is moving in as big competition for a market dominated by locally produced music video channels. Do you think MTV should be expanding its world domination? Or do you think this is going to have a negative effect on Arab music culture?MTV Arabia was launched over the weekend, giving young Arabs a tailored and sanitized... more
