The Terminator franchise hasn't been all that successful since James Cameron left it behind after T2 in 1991. Apparently McG couldn't even get Cameron to give him his blessings for Terminator Salvation and, well, we all know how that turned out. In a recent interview with Cameron, MTV decided to ask him about his thoughts on the Terminator franchise. You already know he's got great things to say in response, so I don't even need to mention anything else, you might as well fire this up and enjoy!

When last we saw “Chuck,” the betting was that the accidental spy had met his end. The show had a small but devoted following, but its ratings had declined and it was not immediately renewed.
The good news is that the show was on NBC. It wasn’t like the peacock network had a lot else going for it.
The bad news is that the show was on NBC. Advertising was down, money was tight and the producers were forced to cut their budgets. When last we saw “Chuck,” the betting was that the accidental spy had met... more

It sounded bad when they filed the lawsuit recently...
"The producers of "Terminator Salvation" have filed for bankruptcy and their list of creditors is a veritable "who's who" of Hollywood.
Just a day after the duo sued their investors for allegedly pushing them into a series of bad business decisions and placing what they claim is an illegal lien on their property, three companies belonging to Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, owners of the "Terminator" franchise rights and the producers of May's "Terminator Salvation," filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday.
Even though the movie has sold a healthy $370 million worth of tickets around the world and has yet to be released on DVD and in other post-theatrical markets, Anderson and Kubicek apparently couldn't stay afloat. As detailed in yesterday's lawsuits, they don't have the assets to pay back one of several loans made by Santa Barbara hedge fund Pacificor, which financed their $30-million purchase of the "Terminator" rights and loaned $9 million for other operating expenses.
Anderson and Kubicek have had several legal disputes with former business associates in their short careers as film producers, as reported by the Times in May.
The list of creditors for Anderson and Kubicek's three companies -- T Asset Acquisition Company, Dominion Group and Halcyon Holding Group -- includes four major studios and several big names involved in "Salvation," including star Christian Bale and director McG. Even California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose face is briefly seen near the end of the movie, is on the list...."It sounded bad when they filed the lawsuit recently...

McG's mea culpa:
"The director, who uses the single name 'McG', told The Telegraph that it was his demand for perfection that triggered Bale’s expletive-laden rant at a crew member. “I’m to blame for the whole thing,” he said.
“First and foremost it’s my job to create a safe environment on the set at all times so that actors can explore any given emotion and always believe in the sanctity of the film…
“The fact it was leaked was inexcusable and I’m ashamed and embarrassed on behalf of Hollywood that that would happen. It’s very unfortunate.”
In February, after the filming of the £100million Terminator Salvation, the audio of the actor became an overnight viral sensation. McG described the audio as “wildly offensive” but defended the actor - most famous for his performance of Batman in box office hit ‘The Dark Night’ – saying that the rant was “taken out of context”.
He admitted swearing at the actor numerous times and deliberately trying to aggravate Bale so that he would come across on camera as “fired-up”.
The film, the fourth of the Terminator movies, is set in dark, post-Apocalyptic 2018, 14 years after the nuclear attack that ended the previous Terminator trilogy.
“In a great many ways this is a war movie so I’m on the set getting in Christian’s face saying, 'You’d better get your ----ing s--- together and you’d better fire up and make me believe your life is in danger, now get off your ----ing ass Christian and go and show me something.’
"Now that’s going to get him fired up in the spirit of creating a real life and death performance and that’s never meant to get outside that arena."
McG said that in reality Bale is a caring family man.
“The truth is simply Christian’s a good guy. Don’t accuse him of being a bad guy because he’s not. He loves his family, he has no entourage, he’s an actor’s actor and he operates from a place of passion. He’ll be the first to admit, 'Wow, I flew off the handle,’ but he was very much involved in what I was driving him to.
McG is not the only crew member to have defended Bale over the tirade. Assistant director Bruce Franklin told US entertainment channel E! News that the rant was the result of Bale being distracted during an emotional scene.
He said: "If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove – it was the most emotional scene in the movie – and for him to get stopped in the middle of it... He is very intensely involved in his character.
"He doesn't walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed." "McG's mea culpa:

I think we all know he's taking his role as John Conner very seriously. Now we know why.
"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - British actor Christian Bale forced a rewrite of upcoming action movie "Terminator Salvation," because his star had grown too big for the small role of John Connor he chose, the filmmakers said on Friday.
Director McG, whose real name is Joseph McGinty Nichol, said he had the disconcerting experience of going to England to convince Bale to play central character Marcus Wright in the man vs. machines film, only to have Bale tell the director he wanted to play Connor instead.
McG told reporters that the script was a "moving target" that became a filmmaking challenge, and that he worked day and night with Bale, who starred last year in box office smash "The Dark Knight," talking about how to work Connor into the movie.
Connor is an iconic character in the film franchise that began in 1984 with "The Terminator," but his role was originally small in the series' fourth movie, "Terminator Salvation," which debuts in theaters on May 21.
"A lot of the work was integrating (Connor) into scenes ... and having that feel integral and sensible, as opposed to grafted on just because there was a star in the part," John Brancato, a screenwriter on the film, told reporters.
He said originally the main character was Marcus Wright, an executed death row inmate who donates his body to science, and re-emerges alive after machines have taken over the world by unleashing a nuclear holocaust on mankind. In the movie, Connor and Wright become equally important characters.
Wright is played by Australian actor Sam Worthington.
Bale said that he asked to be consulted about who would play Worthington opposite him.
"There's a benefit of currently a lot of people in the States not being familiar with him, and so you can really enjoy that performance that much more," Bale said. "He's got so many movies that are going to be coming out, because many other people have realized that he's bloody good.""I think we all know he's taking his role as John Conner very seriously. Director McG stripped most of the color from Salvation in order to evoke an "other-worldly, desolate feeling." The filmmaker solicited feedback from experts who monitored the nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl, then underscored the post-apocalyptic sense of gloom by using obsolete Kodak stock that was baked in the sun to deliberately damage the film.
"Most importantly," McG said, "we added three times as much silver in the processing than one traditionally would to a color stock."
McG, eager to win Cameron's seal of approval, remembers the pitch: "I told Cameron, 'This is the first Terminator picture that takes place post-Judgment Day. We'll be able explore this world that you alluded to ever so briefly and re-invigorate Terminator in the spirit of what Chris Nolan did with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight or the James Bond franchise has done in the Daniel Craig space.' So Cameron said, 'OK, that sounds interesting.'"Director McG stripped most of the color from Salvation in order to evoke an... more
