Alright, yesterday I woke up and saw that there was a sweet looking exhibit at the Nelson Atkins art museum. I saw the comment on the side of a truck reading, "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." - Voltaire and I wanted to make sure I saw the truck in person. I grabbed my camera and my video camera and made the trek to Kansas City and took a ton of pictures along the way there and back. I can't wait to get a chance to check out the finished product. ...Remember when music videos were new and exciting? Every newly released video was like opening a different box of candy–some told a story while others were abstract (and sometimes ridiculous) musings–all of which, no doubt, emblazoned fresh iconic images on one’s young, spongelike brain forever...

Think Tank is a place to think about thinking. It combines the appeal of orangutans, macaques, and other charismatic species with an interactive exploration of the question: "What is thinking?" Think Tank is unique in the zoo world in that it is about a biological process thinking, rather than a particular animal species or habitat. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/your-details/414-think-tankThink Tank is a place to think about thinking. Essence of Touch: an exhibit of finger painting by artist Wendy Van Fleet
The essence of nature and human nature is the core of a new exhibit at the First National Bank Gallery at Colorado State University’s Morgan Library. The exhibit will run June 4 – September 26, and an opening reception will be held Thursday, June 10, 6 – 8 p.m.
Artist Wendy Van Fleet creates vibrant works by painting with her hands and fingers. “This technique has evolved from working many years with chalk pastels where I used my hands to manipulate and blend the color directly on the paper,” she says. “Being able to connect with the medium to the image is very important in my process and engages my visual and kinesthetic senses.”
Most of Van Fleet’s recent work is based on flowers and reminiscent of Georgia O’Keefe’s work. “My art conveys the essence of nature and human nature; the connection that is shared beyond what is seen physically,” she says. “Flowers will bloom only when the conditions in which they grow are conducive for each particular species. The time of year they bloom varies based on location and regional factors. Their life cycle begins from a planted seed, sprouts and eventually becomes a full bloom soon to wither and die; and the cycle begins again. Life cycles and seasonal changes that constantly remind us of the passing of time. Our culture is obsessed with time and the attempt to manage and control it, myself included. Painting allows me the opportunity to become lost in time.”

German anatomists plan a new show dedicated solely to dead bodies having sex as part of the Body Worlds exhibitions.
Gunther von Hagens and his wife Angelina Whalley show corpses prepared using a technique invented by von Hagens called "plastination," that removes water from specimens and preserves them with silicon rubber or epoxy resin.
"It's not my intention to show certain sexual poses. My goal is really to show the anatomy and the function," Body Worlds creative director Whalley told Reuters in an interview, adding the sex exhibition may open next year.
Body Worlds exhibitions, visited by 27 million people across the world, have been criticized for presenting entire corpses, stripped of skin to reveal the muscles and organs underneath, in lifelike and often theatrical positions.
Von Hagens has already triggered uproar with a new exhibit which shows just two copulating corpses.German anatomists plan a new show dedicated solely to dead bodies having sex as part... more

Robert Indiana never saw his oversized EAT sign illuminated after it went up at the New York World's Fair in 1964. A day after being turned on, the sign with its hundreds of light bulbs was turned off because it was attracting hungry tourists who thought it was a restaurant, not a piece of art.
The EAT sign goes back on public display this month for the first time in 44 years as part of Indiana's first major U.S. exhibition in a decade, at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland. The sign is being installed atop the museum roof with lights flashing on five large metal discs with the letters E, A and T.
Having EAT rise again after all these years brings back memories of his mother, who at one time ran a diner and whose final dying word was "eat," Indiana says.
"When the sign is finally turned on the roof of the Farnsworth and I see it for the first time, that will be one of my most exciting days in Maine and one of the most exciting days of my life," he says in an interview at his studio on Vinalhaven, an island 15 miles off the Maine coast where he has lived since 1978.Robert Indiana never saw his oversized EAT sign illuminated after it went up at the... more

At the Rock and Roll Annex in NYC, “John Lennon: The New York City Years,” an exhibition of memorabilia that opens on Tuesday(May 12th) and provides a glimpse of the nine years he lived in the city, from 1971 until his death in 1980. The show offers a good overview of his creative world, with examples of his art (drawings and collages, some never seen before), video clips of his performances and, most crucially, a collection of lyric sheets and production notes that, if you look closely at Lennon’s changes, additions and annotations, tell a lot about his working methods and his ways of thinking about music.
