“Blinky™” is a wickedly evil 3D-CG animated short horror film by the Irish filmmaker Ruairi Robinson, which has been nominated for Best Narrative Film/Video at the 2012 Vimeo Festival +Awards. Robinson broke through to great acclaim with his 3D short film, “Fifty Percent Grey,” which was nominated for an Oscar in 2002 and followed it up with “The Silent City,” a post-apocalyptic short film starring Cillian Murphy.
“Blinky™” is shot with visual execution that is truly masterful, and the story is as bloody creepy as it gets. The amazing thirteen-minute short film stars Max Records from “Where The Wild Things Are” and tells the story of an angst-ridden young boy, who is trapped in a well-to-do, yet toxic home environment where his parents are constantly fighting. For Christmas he requests and gets Blinky™, the latest robot friend/home helper. But will the twisted and increasingly sinister Blinky™ actually turn out to be the true friend the distraught boy desperately wants and needs? Well, so sadly, very probably not….
This piece includes color photographs and the twisted, darkly comical short film.

Through our partnership with video sharing site Vimeo, we’re thrilled to be able to show the winning films from our Current Short Cuts competition where young filmmakers were asked to submit their short films on the theme of Revolution.
Whether a fun quirky portrait or an observational access piece, we were looking for films that touch on the themes of change, subversive action and protest.
The richness of the world and the power of the human spirit have shone through the huge number of entries we received and settling on our final six was incredibly hard. Our winners show the diversity of outstanding talent that exists for short film-making, taking us from a street cleaner in Tel Aviv and a cardboard artist in Brazil, to extraordinary insight at British protests and an 87-year old lady who defies the world with her joy for life.
Don't miss Current Short Cuts: Revolution on Monday 16 January at 10pm.

“Pass The Bucket: Stephen Murray” is a heart-wrenching, but also very inspiring 5-minute documentary short film directed by Eliot Rausch, whose previous documentary “Last Minutes with Oden” was named Best Documentary and Best Video at the 2010 Vimeo Awards.
June 22, 2007 marked a day that the Action Sports world will remember for a lifetime, a day that forever changed the life of professional BMX rider and three-time U.S. Gold Medalist, Stephen Murray. During competition in the BMX Dirt Finals at the Dew Actions Sports Tour in Baltimore (MD), while in the midst of doing a double back flip, Murray had what has been described as one of the worst crashes ever seen in BMX competition. In that catastrophic tragedy, the incredibly talented 27 year-old athlete suffered career ending injuries to his spinal cord, which left him paralyzed below the shoulders.
Almost four years later, Murray’s life has changed drastically. Fully paralyzed, Stephen now lives a different reality, but he has come to view it as a platform to help others. He continues to embrace each day and in his own words, “stay strong.” In the documentary, Murray describes the accident he endured, the changes to his life as a result of it and what enables him to continue fighting. And in true Stephen Murray fashion, his strength and perseverance continues to inspire. Stay strong.
Through his Stay Strong Foundation and courageous determination, Stephen surprisingly has found a powerful way to pass the bucket.
This piece includes a number of high-resolution color photographs, as well as the remarkable documentary short film.

“Last Minutes with Oden” is a deeply engaging, extremely heart-wrenching 6-minute documentary short film directed by Eliot Rausch. The film tells a story about an ex-convict who is saying a final farewell to his best friend, the man’s last minutes with his dog before he has to have it euthanized for health reasons. The documentary is a beautiful elegy that calls attention to certain heartbreaking moments most of us experience, and which is an incredibly powerful reminder of the importance of family and friendships in all our lives.
“Last Minutes with Oden” was just named Best Documentary and Best Video at the 2010 Vimeo Awards, chosen from over 6500 film and video submissions.
This piece includes a number of high-resolution color photographs, as well as the award-winning documentary short film.

Well this video shows even if air-planes ruin your time lapse of the meteor's, you can make something else which is lovely to watch.
"To say that the perpetual stream of airplanes didn't ruin my night is an understatement. Oh well. I might try to go and batch process these to try to make the meteors that did show up in frame pop more but I probably won't because everytime I see this I am reminded of my disappointing night. Yesterday one of my favorite Internet video-centric blogs, NewTeeVee, alerted me to the fact that my video upload site of choice, Vimeo, is being sued by Capitol Records for copyright infringement over one of its most popular user memes, the "lip dub", a video of one or more persons lip synching to a (usually well-known) copyrighted song track.
From NewTeeVee:
The complaint states that Vimeo “induces and encourages its users to upload…audiovisual works,” which it then disseminates virally throughout the Internet. According to Capitol Records, the company’s staff actively participates in “making, selecting, commenting on, and at times choosing to delete” audiovisual works, including those featuring its own copyrighted recordings.
Now, here's the thing. It would be easy to dismiss Capitol Records as the bad guys who don't have senses of humor and just want to make trouble for creative folks. And I've actually made one of these lip dubs during work hours while drinking alcohol at at previous place of employment, so I'm obviously a fan of the process (and a shameless ham, which is neither here nor there, but let's be honest, I don't completely suck at lip dubs).
But I also completely understand why Vimeo's being sued, and I'm not sure they've got a real strong counter argument for Capitol Records. The day a bunch of co-workers and I made the lip dub I referenced above, we sort of put it together on the fly on a Friday afternoon and showed off the final product at an all-hands meeting afterward. And even though everybody laughed and clapped, my boss was a little freaked because it was obviously shot in the company studio and we obviously didn't have permission from INXS to use their song. And it kind of became this dramatic issue where he really didn't want our lip dub video getting posted anywhere associated with the company, even though we'd planned to use it as a fun promotional piece and get as many people to watch as possible (I hadn't run any of it by him beforehand). And of course I guffawed at his paranoia and considered him humorless and argued that he was just trying to keep the creative folks from having fun, but deep down I knew he was right. So I posted the video to my personal account on Vimeo and agreed to accept any repercussions individually. And there weren't any, and I never really thought about it again.
Except that now there are repercussions, at least for Vimeo. And I'm not quite sure what to think about being part of a pretty big group of people who may not fall under the "parody" defense. So....what's your opinion?Yesterday one of my favorite Internet video-centric blogs, NewTeeVee, alerted me to... more
