Burberry, the brand known for its iconic trench coat launched a social networking site devoted to the item, Artofthetrench.com. Not only does the site dive into the history of this closet staple, they also encourage fans to submit pictures of themselves wearing their own Burberry coat. This is a genius idea. By building a strong sense of online community the British label has an excellent chance of really standing out in the webosphere - especially since 66% of luxury brands are now online in comparison to 33% last year. Bathrooms are often tucked into small spaces, saving room for other more important places within a house, condo or apartment. What if you rethought the priority of your layouts or had enough space to arrange a bathroom furnishings, fixtures and decor look and feel more like an open living room area than a cramped closet?
(dornob, n.d., par.1)
While such a strategy presupposes a luxury client who can afford to buy into it, the exercise by designer Michael Shaerlig is nonetheless interesting on an abstract interior design level. This bathroom is essentially zoned into four distinct spaces so that bathing, washing and other activities can happen in distinct locations in the overall layout. The aesthetic result is a kind of modern minimalism with continuity provided by simple forms but different implied zones of activity created by integrated fixtures.

The global economic crisis may have damped the appetite for high-end goods, but one small daily luxury — gourmet tea — has been posting surprisingly strong sales, prompting some tea brands to consider expanding around the world.
(Kolesnikov-Jessop, S., 2009, September 18, par.1)
While the rarest teas, like yellow teas, can cost $2,120 for a kilogram, or 2.2 pounds, gourmet teas cost 30 percent more than standard teas on average, making them an affordable luxury for many. “There is definitely no crisis when it comes down to gourmet tea; our sales have been increasing every year by 15 to 25 percent ever since we started in 1987,” said François-Xavier Delmas, founder and chief executive of Le Palais des Thés in Paris.
(Kolesnikov-Jessop, S., 2009, September 18, par.2)
He said the company, which is privately owned, posted annual revenue growth of 19 percent in 2007-8, with sales of 9.66 million euros ($14.2 million). Le Palais des Thés’ experience has been similar to that of other luxury tea brands, as well as specialty retailers. “Demand for quality products has remained strong,” said Mark Daley, chief executive of Dean & DeLuca, a gourmet retailer based in the United States. “People are enjoying more time together, more time sharing with friends, more time home entertaining.”

Christian Siriano is making sure thrifty women can wear his shoes with his line for Payless, but he may not have had the masses in mind with the collection he showed this past Saturday during New York Fashion Week. Is the line beautiful? Yes. Do I see myself wearing anything? Perhaps not but I could see The First Lady in one of his dresses. Siriano is definitely going after a very refined customer- think ladies who lunch, or do battle in the boardroom, who are searching for a fresh twist on classic dressing.
