A colorful bunch of balloons inflated to honor a beloved teacher who died of leukemia broke free and traveled more than 900 miles to a South Dakota cornfield.
"The balloons were still full of air," said Michael Beadle, who recently discovered them while deer hunting near Onaka, S.D.
This is actually pretty touching...the teacher's husband recalled how she always wanted to fly.
Did you ever attach a letter to a balloon and let it go, hoping to get a response as a kid? I sure did and actually got one from like 90 miles away or something. A Milwaukee high school teacher was arrested last week for a comment he left on a blog about Wisconsin politics.
The comment came from a discussion about teach salaries and how teachers are under worked and over paid. The Milwaukee teach praised a teen gunman who shot and killed 12 students and a teacher at a Columbine High school in 1999. He then said: "They knew how to deal with the overpaid teacher union thugs. One shot at a time!"
Another teacher reading this comment called the police, saying it was a threat.

The Milwaukee Public School system is having a hard time recruiting teachers to work in high-needs schools. High-needs is a euphemism for the ghetto. The best and most experienced teachers tend to gravitate towards the schools that excel while the high-needs schools get the youngest and least experienced teachers, if any apply at all. Seeing how we treat education as a product to be regulated by the free market, the location of a school is important when trying to attract qualified teachers, much like location is important to a business trying to attract customers. In a city that promotes school choice for parents, it can't be mad that teachers are following suit. Teaching is a noble profession, and one that doesn't receive the recognition it deserves, but it can't become an elitest endeavor. What kind of message is this sending to the kids who live in the poor areas of town? What does this say about the caliber of the people who are becoming teachers? It seems that as a society, we view the people and places associated with poverty as unworthy and undeserving of the very thing capable of bringing about a positive change.The Milwaukee Public School system is having a hard time recruiting teachers to work... more

Yikes!!
Hundreds of protesters armed with swords and sticks gathered outside the presidential palace in Khartoum, many demanding Gillian Gibbons be killed for allowing her students to name a teddy bear Muhammad.
Convenient how they aren't pissed at the kids, huh?... Last I checked, it was their idea!! Can you imagine how terrified the students that wanted that name must be?!Yikes!!

Gillian Gibbons was found guilty of inciting religious hatred after allowing her students to name a teddy bear Muhammad, and was sentenced to 15 days in prison and deportation to Britain.

Every year during teacher appreciation week at the high school where I teach, the teachers are given a teacher appreciation DVD. The DVD is usually cute and shows all the teachers and pretty much not that exciting. A fellow teacher and I shake up the DVD every year with a mini movie mockumenting teaching and different things at our school. Last years submission was "The Vig". It's a teacher mockumentary showing a couple of teachers shaking down teachers and students for money. A teacher at an Arizona high school, who is also a cheerleading coach, performed a cheer as part of the lesson plan in her freshman english class. The video apparently went viral on youtube.
She has now elected to resign effective Dec. 31.
I watched the video, it didn't seem so bad to me. It seemed as though she just wanted to keep her classes attention.
