BREAKING NEWS: The lineup for this year’s VH1 Divas has been announced! ** who cares!! **

The second season of VH1 Divas will air tomorrow night and when seeing the promos and the site for the show, it made me realize that Bill Maher was on point when he said the people in the United States are getting stupid. This is further evidenced when a 28 yr old man (Johnathan) is on video, talking about how much he thinks Miley Cyrus is a Diva and a role model....a role model???? The same girl that danced on a striper pole several weeks ago at a kids awards show?! The good thing about the video is that based on his comments, he doesn't have a kid , only a godchild. But comments from Johnathan and people like him on VH1's site, made me realized that no matter what is put out there, the "stupid" people in our country will watch anything.

Why do we as a society still allow the networks to control the content that is being put out? When I was growing up I remember the word “Diva” or “King” was applied to artists that had established such great careers in their time and now were being honored based on their entire body of work. Also, the definition of "Diva" on the internet is as follows,

An operatic prima donna
A very successful singer of nonoperatic music: a jazz diva.

and..
Tutor's tip: You would not expect a "diva" (an opera singer, usually quite temperamental) to "dive" (a rapid descent) into the audience like a rock star.

Even though the Tutor's tip is coming from someone supposedly being biased, there's such a distinguished element between what a Diva is and a famous artist.

So, my question for what this show is "trying" to convey here, is... Why are Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Jennifer Hudson and the rest of the cast even there? Why are these titles that meant so much in the past, used on anyone with only 1 or even 2 hits or has demonstrated having little or no class?
I would imagine that the word Diva and show put together would mean artists like Dianna Ross, Cher, Patti LaBelle, Celine Dion, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Pat Benatar, Carole King, Sheryl Crow, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and other greats. But Miley and Kelly? really???
Let me stop here since I know some of the women and guys, on current are going to be upset because of this post, but in all honesty, why are we, the people, letting VH1 put garbage on the air? Let me know what you think.

PS... I'm not looking for people to post dumb comments like "don't watch the show" or "change the channel"... thanks!
