Jul 15, 2009 7:56 am US/Eastern Grandson's 1st Birthday Bittersweet For Local Man McKEESPORT (KDKA/AP) ―
KDKA
For most grandparents, celebrating their grandchild's first birthday is a joyous occasion; but for a McKeesport man, the day will be bittersweet. It's also the first anniversary of his daughter's death.
Kia Johnson, 18, died last July when police say a Wilkinsburg woman cut the baby from her womb.
"Kia never came home and then I got a call from the coroner saying, my daughter's down there," Eric Johnson, Kia's father, tells KDKA-TV.
Andrea Curry-Demus, 40, is being held in a state mental hospital until a judge decides if she's competent to stand trial.
Investigators say Curry-Demus killed Johnson, cut her unborn baby from her womb, and kidnapped the newborn. They say she then took the baby to a hospital and claimed that she had just given birth to him.
Johnson has been raising the little boy ever since; and Terrell Kian Johnson will turn one-year-old today.
"I look his face and I see my daughter Kia," he said.
While Eric Johnson says he's planning a party for his grandson's big day, it's not going to be easy.
"I know she's up there watching now - I know she is," Johnson said of his slain daughter.
While Johnson waits for justice for his daughter, he said he's trying to focus on his grandson, named after Kia and the baby's father, who is serving a five- to 10-year sentence for robbery.
Kia's ashes rest in a butterfly covered urn on the mantel in the room where her son plays with his grandfather.
"But she's with me I carry her everyday in my angel," Johnson said.

It sounds like a movie script, but it's not....
Dr. Prasher's work in gene research was cut short when his funding by the American Cancer Society ran out.
He could have kept his work to himself. Instead, he mailed a couple of test tubes to Roger Tsien at the University of California and Martin Chalfie at Columbia University.
"It was more important to me to hand over the tool to other scientists with the funding than to have individual glory," Prasher told London's Daily Mail.
His initial work led to the research that allowed Chalfie and Tsien to win the Nobel prize for chemistry. They'll share $1.5 million.

First of all, do you know any woman who has given birth to 10 kids? How about 15 kids? How about 20 kids? Anyone for 22? Well, I know a woman how has given birth to 22 single birth children. I know one. She is my mother. She's 89 years and still has a very sharp and active mind. Although, not all 22 children are alive, she has well over 100 grandchildren.
Lucille Foster Moore is her name. She lives in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She is an amazingly strong woman who has taken very good care of herself. Her skin is soft and she has very few wringles. I think she has found part of that fountain youth.
Although young and poor in the south, she never thought twice about keeping and doing her best by her kids. She demonstrated a great and sacrifical love for her children. Wouldn't you like to get to know this remarkable woman?
I think your Current TV viewers would enjoy hearing/reading about this remarkable woman.
Contact me, Cindy Ball, at 317.979.0231 or via email if you would like to do a story about her. My email is cindyball@sbcglobal.net. I am also a student at Ball State University in Muncie, IN.
