Okay, I switched off the news stations and put on sports radio figuring I need a break. Oh yea, that is just what I needed. NOT!!! Here we are with over 14 million people out of work. We have many who have had unemployment run out. We have people living in their cars. The Food Pantries are running out of food. But here on talk radio, what are they talking about? The insanity for the Marlins owners to offer Albert Pujols a $200 million ten year deal.Okay, I switched off the news stations and put on sports radio figuring I need a... more

I decided to go for a bit of titillation for today’s story, but it’s something that many of you may not know about it’s “titillating” background. Coit Tower was built in 1933 by the bequest of Lillie Hitchcock Coit to beautify the city as well as to commemorate the firefighters of the city. In particular she was apparently rather fond of the firemen at Knickerbocker Engine Company No. 5.I decided to go for a bit of titillation for today’s story, but it’s... more

People call things FAILs, when they aren’t FAILworthy at all. I attempt to find WINness in everything. This is another edition of some FAILs that I don’t think are really FAILs.
There is no way that this is a FAIL. The composition is incredible! The magenta borders really accent the figure's thighs.
At this level of competitive gameplay, your opponents will distract you with anything they can think of. If you succumb to that alleged-WIN in the corner, you will FAIL.
These firefighters are hardworking professionals. They work long hours, to do jobs most of us couldn't. But lunch starts at noon, everyday. No exceptions!
I know you think puns are stupid, but that's when humans think of them. It's amazing that this cat can even comprehend puns, let alone write one. She calls this performance "CAT-ctus". What further brilliance can we expect from this tiny feline?
This picture points out the inadequacies of the tenure system at American universities. Facts change over time, and professors must adapt. I say hire new instructors, so we can finally find out what 4 & 3 make.
I know you don't support Canadian autonomy, but this is a joke. The owners of this laminated sheet are humorously noting the nuances of Canadian English. You should learn for yourself. One day you might want to convince a girl from Edmonton, that you're from Calgary, and you do not want to slip up.
Hey buddy don't worry, you're still safe. That's not her real mouth. She's just wearing a mask with a cartoon face on it. She's not going to infect you.
Catch up on your FAILs that aren’t FAILS.

Firefighters were called to the assistance of a man who was admitted to casualty with his penis stuck inside a steel pipe.
Medics at Southampton General Hospital could not get the man's penis out of the stainless steel pipe because the restricted blood flow had caused it to become aroused.
Once the firefighters arrived on scene they set to work with a metal grinder to cut through the pipe and release the man.
The delicate procedure took around 30 minutes and other than some swelling and bruising the man's member is said to on the mend.

"I was there. I was in New York City. I was 21 years old and had a plane ticket booked to leave out of JFK on American Airlines for September 13th to London.
Tuesday. I remember the ceaseless noise of sirens. Trash floating in the street. The city a barren wasteland.
Papers plastered everywhere on every possible surface with faces and names scrawled underneath begging for any information about loved ones. College kids my age. I stared at a picture of a boy. It was a recent photo. It said he was on a high floor. I knew he was dead. He looked so alive in the photo. Handsome, even. But the shaky pen on the flyer begged for information. His picture was one of thousands on walls, on lamp posts, across the city. I fingered these papers. Hopeless cries for help, dirty and dusty from other fingerprints that had done exactly what I had just done—tried to touch their souls.
No one understood. The world had changed forever...." (TO READ THE FULL STORY VISIT WWW.ONEOF365.COM)"I was there. I was in New York City. I was 21 years old and had a plane ticket... more

In a move that's only going to reinforce their macho sterotype, the UK government has now introduced new uniform (read: costumes) for our country's firefighting heroes, Storm Trooper helmets!
The new Storm Trooper-esque helmets have a fitted torch, camera and radio link so the real-life Fireman Sam can fight fire with technology, whilst looking like Storm Troopers.
Their Storm Trooper helmets can resist temperatures of up to 1832F (1000C) and are topped off by a rather shiny gold-plated visor There's no denying, it's a definitely a good look.
What next, Police forces with Darth Vader armour? In a move that's only going to reinforce their macho sterotype, the UK government... more

“Hot Dog” is an animated short by Bill Plympton. “Hot Dog” played at the 2008 Strasbourg International Film Festival and at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. It was an Oscar Nomination commended animated short film in 2009.
In this film, the Dog decides to join the fire department. The enthusiastic pup will do absolutely anything to become the fire station’s resident pooch. The Dog moves with a bounding enthusiasm that isn’t shared by his fellow fire officers at first. As the inevitable disaster builds, tension is increased by the Dog getting a brief moment of glory as the fire department’s new best friend, but then something more interesting grabs the attention of the fire officers and poor little Dog is left to cope all alone. The Dog is stretched to beyond his reach as he resorts to lapping up water from the gutter to put out the outbreak of another smaller fire, but then gasoline leaks into the puddle. Soon after, the little Dog’s hopes are sadly crushed in disaster.
Includes pictures from the film and the wonderful, humorous animation, “Hot Dog.”“Hot Dog” is an animated short by Bill Plympton. “Hot Dog”... more

The FIT-5 fire-fighting technology that Scientific American.com wrote about on September 5 will make it's prime time television debut December 12 at 10 p.m. as part of the Science Channel series Brink.
Made by Vancouver-based ARA Safety, the grenade-like gadget is designed to quickly extinguish flames in small quarters, thereby limiting injury to both victims and firefighters. The company says the device—which costs about $1,300—can extinguish a class B (fuel-based) fire in a room 2,100 cubic feet (60 cubic meters) or less and reduce fire temperatures from 1,000 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (540 to 150 degrees Celsius) in less than 10 seconds. The FIT-5 is also designed to control class A (wood-based) fires enough to douse them with water. The FIT-5 fire-fighting technology that Scientific American.com wrote about on... more

Now I always kinda thought this was a perk of the job, but it seems that's not quite the case.
After seeing a buxom-blonde stepping out of the back of a firetruck in Newcastle, an angry cabbie took a picture on his mobile and has lodged a complaint.
An investigation into the incident has been launched after he cllaimed he saw fire crews 'shouting and leering at girls,' which he thinks is putting lives at risk because the firefighters are 'loiteriing.'
'They are going round town getting whistled at by women and they are hanging out the windows of the fire engines.'
I think someone might needs their jealousy extinguishing.

Ryan Hummert, 22, a firefighter in Maplewood, Missouri (suburb of St. Louis) was responding to a call about a pick up truck that was in flames. He arrived to the scene to help save lives and by a horrible twist of fate his life was taken. Not by the fire but by a gunman hiding in a house across the street. Two other policemen were then shot but only Ryan's shot was fatal. The gunman set the car on fire to lure firemen and cops there to shoot them and then set the house he was in on fire which is to believed to be his own. There is no known motive and it has not yet been determined whether the gunman killed himself in his burning house or ran away. This has been a horrible event for the St. Louis area and all those who knew and loved Ryan. Please keep his family and friends in mind and in prayers. During the 1970s and 80s, an adventurous blonde named Jill Freedman with a quick eye for the unusual and bizarre focussed her camera upon the spirited characters and gritty sidewalks of a now-bygone era in New York City life. This modernist documentarian was a self-taught photographer who captured raw, intimate images in black and white, transforming urban scenes into theatrical dramas.
Freedman’s portrait of New York reflected a fallen city that was strewn with piles of garbage. Prostitutes and bag ladies walked the streets, while junkies staked out abandoned tenements next to children playing in vacant lots. For reasons involving both a shift in photographic styles and her own declining personal circumstances, Ms. Freedman faded from the popular scene in the late 1980s. But today, at a moment when much of Manhattan is awash in money and glamour, Freedman’s photographic legacy offers us a vivid portrait of a metropolis once defined by violence, poverty and disarray, a New York that once was.
Photographs, a video and photo-gallery are included.During the 1970s and 80s, an adventurous blonde named Jill Freedman with a quick eye... more
