I've heard -- as a Beatles fan -- of John Lennon supposedly trying to turn Prince Charles on to Marijuana when the Fab Four received their MBE's (never happened, or so said the living Beatles during the 1995 Beatles Anthology sessions). I've also heard of the US trying to throw the former Beatle out fo the country... This was documented recently in the film "The US Versus John Lennon"
The entire sentiment was rooted in John's anti-war activism. That and his drug use. So it's not surprising that Lennon plotted to put LSD in Richard Nixon's tea.
In never-before-seen home video footage from 1970, Lennon is filmed suggesting this little bit of michieviousness (classic Lennon) along with other insights to the world of post-Beatle Lennon.

John Peel was as unique as they come, in that he was comfortable being nothing but himself on the radio, in spite of what was said of him, and in doing so became a maverick of the UK music scene. He flew the flag for small bands, world music artists and terrible but completely authentic acts that no-one else would play. I loved him for that and for his endearing honesty about life.
