Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we’re being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That’s what’s insane about it. -John Lennon

Yoko Ono has sold the rights to a collection of letters penned by John Lennon. Ono was persuaded to publish the letters by Hunter Davies, the Beatles' biographer.
Photos: John Lennon and Yoko Ono in New York: The Last Years
The book will be comprised of over 150 letters written over the course of Lennon's life, including notes to record companies and newspapers, several drawings and a letter to an eight-year-old boy. According to Alan Samson of Orion, a majority of the letters and drawings in the book have not been seen by the public... and

30 years ago today, on the 8th December 1980, John Lennon was shot and killed.
For Rolling Stone magazine, his wife Yoko Ono picked her 10 best Lennon songs, opting to focus on the records Lennon made after the band's breakup. "He felt more free," says Ono. "He was getting down to what he was feeling. He was really speaking the truth."
1. "Oh My Love" 1971In most love songs, you're making people feel hot or whatever about each other. But instead of that, he's saying, "I see it clearly for the first time." It's not so much about sexual interest or "I miss you" – it's more to do with true love.
2. "Gimme Some Truth" 1971"Gimme Some Truth" is so appropriate for now. He was before his time in a way. There's an edge to the music too – that kind of song didn't exist too much in those days.
3. "Give Peace a Chance" 1969You can't miss this one. It's proof that he could be very personal, but also he could cover the big picture and get people to think about that. And it worked. He really did affect the world a lot.
4. "God" 1970A very powerful and daring song. The first time I heard it, when he sang, "I don't believe in Beatles," I choked up. And so did many other people, for other reasons [chuckles]. It's very revolutionary, even more than the song "Revolution." It was breaking all the cobwebs and saying, "Here I am."
5. "Grow Old With Me" 1984He was saying it to me, but also to a whole generation: "Let's grow old together." After his passing, all I had was a cassette of it. I had it in my handbag. When I went to sleep, I had some bells on my door so if anyone came in, I'd hear it. I didn't want people to take it from me.
6. "Imagine" 1971The chord structure and what it means are very direct and simple. And that was very important. He was good at anthems.
7. "Scared" 1974I thought this could be in the classical-music field. It's across the musical border.
8. "Jealous Guy" 1971This was hard for him to get out – he's being very honest about being jealous. I don't think many songwriters owned up that way. They might tiptoe around that emotion.
9. "I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier" 1971"I don't wanna be a soldier, Mama, I don't want to die" — that says it all! A beautiful anti-establishment song, not just about a soldier but also a priest. He was just being himself. George's slide guitar is incredible. He was fantastic.
10. "Mother" 1970A very intense song that came from primal scream. Women have played a big role in the human race. We created it, actually, between our thighs. John was coming out and saying, "Mother, I need you." He recognized the power and important position of women in society.

In 1971, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, with the Harlem Community Choir, recorded their message against war as a peace anthem, a song that has also become a Christmas standard: “Happy Xmas (War Is Over).” According to the John Lennon Museum, Lennon wrote the song as an attempt to get people to see war at a grassroots level and for them to take responsibility for the world around them.
So this is now the beginning of the Christmas season. And what have you done? The opening lines of the song, sung so nonchalantly by Lennon, serve as a call-to-action for us all. The holidays become critical moments in the year for personal assessments, to review our choices. And to make things better. If you want it.
This piece includes a number of high-resolution photographs, as well as the classic Christmas music video.

“WAR IS OVER! (If You Want It)” is a documentary short film created by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. As 1969 came to a close, Lennon and Ono’s ideas about their protests against the Vietnam War grew beyond printing a few posters. As Ono notes in the documentary, Lennon was the one who dreamed big. “I said let’s have T-shirts,” Ono remembers, “and John said, ‘Let’s buy billboards.’” The posters were displayed as billboards in twelve major cities across the world. And the message appeared not only in mass-produced posters and postcards, but also in large newspaper ads, as well as on the radio and television. It was the first major multimedia campaign for peace.
In 1971, Lennon and Ono, with the Harlem Community Choir, recorded their message as a peace anthem, a song that has also become a Christmas standard: “Happy Xmas (War Is Over).” According to the John Lennon Museum, Lennon wrote the song as an attempt to get people to see war at a grassroots level and for them to take responsibility for the world around them.

“LENNONYC,” a PBS American Masters production, is an interesting albeit one-sided film about the roughly nine years John Lennon spent in the Big Apple (1971-1980) after the break-up of the Beatles.
That the first biography in the media information packet is not of the filmmaker, but Yoko Ono, “multi-media artist and peace activist,” may provide an inkling of whose side the documentary documents. And that the media kit contains more photos of her than John only reinforces the point.

Bruce Replogle, Director of Rock Management USA, represented John Lennon and Yoko Ono, as their only personally-hired Publicist.
Now, in addition to his management and promotion of some of the most talented musicians in the world, he is representing John Lennon again.
Replogle has the exclusive contract to sell the life-size bronze statue of John Lennon.
The following is from artist, Brett-Livingstone Strong's website, detailing the provenance and importance of this singular, historic memorial to Lennon:
"This is the only statue of the uniquely talented and legendary John Lennon created during his lifetime. Sculpted by Brett-Livingstone Strong between 1979 and 1980, this work of art honors John Lennon’s life and his vision for world peace. The statue has been unveiled in Los Angeles in 1981 by LA Mayor Tom Bradley, and in New York by Andy Warhol. It has also been exhibited worldwide in the 80s. In the 1983 US festival it joined Bono and U2 on stage for a concert with an audience of over 300,000 people. The Lennon statue was also showcased by the Grammy Awards Music Academy in Los Angeles for close to a decade. In the early 80s Rolling Stone Magazine received over 250,000 signatures petitioning to overcome a park moratorium to have the statue placed in New York’s Central Park. With such a unique and wonderful history, the valuable original statue has been appraised in excess of $12 million by museum appraisers. The statue is mounted on a polished marble base in which the word ‘Imagine’ is carved. "
Mr. Replogle represented John Lennon in life, and now is honored to continue to represent him in memoriam with this stunning work of fine art.
When asked what he thought of the intersection of his life with that of John Lennon's on so many occasions, Bruce simply said, "I'm honored. It's synchronicity, isn't it?"
Imagine that.

NEW YORK – The FBI has seized a set of John Lennon's fingerprints from a Manhattan memorabilia shop.
U.S. agents removed the item on Wednesday from the store, called Gotta Have It!
The New York Times says the signed fingerprint card was made at a police station on May 8, 1976. It bears the name John Winston Ono Lennon. At the time, Lennon was applying for citizenship.
Spokesman James Margolin said the FBI is investigating how the item "came to be up for auction."
A store owner, Peter Siegel, said Homeland Security also had inquired about the card.
Siegel said an unidentified concert promoter bought it at a Beatles convention about two decades ago.

Imagine: John Lennon's Woman Yoko Ono overcome with emotion as she visits the house where her late Beatle husband grew up

John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono made an emotional visit today to the Liverpool house where her late husband grew up as part of his 70th birthday commemorations.
The 77-year-old artist, musician and peace activist, looking decades younger in a black trouser suit topped off with a white trilby and her trademark dark glasses, paid homage to the Beatle at the modest Menlove Avenue semi he grew up in.
But she could hardly stop the tears flowing as she crossed the threshold where Lennon lived with his Aunt Mimi and Uncle George from 1945-1963.

Yesterday: Peace activist and Lennon's widow Yoko ponders a while in the place where her late husband once played in the past
Earlier, Yoko was greeted by hundreds of fans when she visited John’s old school, Dovedale Junior, to open a new children's and community centre.
The Sure Start Children’s Centre, a joint project between Dovedale Junior and Dovedale Infants schools, is a local support base for children from birth and up to school age and their families in the community.
She was even shown an old school register to see her late husband's name - John Winston Lennon - in all its glory.

Yoko's Merseyside trip is just the start of a host of activity to celebrate the anniversary of the influential musician's birth on 9 October. Lennon was shot dead by crazed fan Mark Chapman on 8 December 1980, aged just 40.
As part of the commemorations, Yoko has also announced she will be holding several events in Iceland on the day of his birthday to 'promote peace throughout the world'.
These include illumination of the Imagine Peace Tower, built on the island of Viðey, just off the Icelandic mainland, and a Plastic Ono Band concert featuring Yoko herself.
Eight of Lennon's albums have also been digitally remastered in time for the 70th birthday celebrations with help by Yoko to be released on 4 October.
They include his last ever original studio album, Double Fantasy, which was released just three weeks before he was murdered.
His sons Sean and Julian also pen some of the sleeve notes on the re-releases, with Sean providing the original artwork for the Double Fantasy reissue.John Lennon's Woman Yoko Ono overcome with emotion as she visits the house where... more

Yoko Ono did some ‘performance’ art at Voice Piece For Soprano & Wish Tree at MoMA and by performance art I mean a really strange fake orgasm. I just don’t get art. Give me Family Guy anytime over this. We can only hope some funds of some kind were raised for a good charity. Maybe they paid her to cut her gig down to 3 minutes. I would have made a donation for her not to do this.
I would advise you not to watch this if you’ve just consumed your breakfast. This is the freakiest chit I’ve seen. Is THIS how this lady orgasms?Yoko Ono did some ‘performance’ art at Voice Piece For Soprano & Wish... more
