"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free. The truth has been kept from the depth of their minds by masters who rule them with lies. They feed them on falsehoods till wrong looks like right in their eyes." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The MPAA has successfully shut down an entire town's municipal WiFi because a single user was found to be downloading a copyrighted movie. Rather than being embarrassed by this gross example of collective punishment (a practice outlawed in the Geneva conventions) against Coshocton, OH, the MPAA's spokeslizard took the opportunity to cry poor (even though the studios are bringing in record box-office and aftermarket receipts).

Threats of cyberwar and a story of real violence rubbed shoulders at a news conference to mark the opening of the ITU Telecom World exhibition and forum in Geneva.
"The next world war could begin in cyberspace," warned Hamadoun Touré, secretary general of the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations agency that organised the event.
The beginnings of such an unconventional war could be out of the control of conventional diplomacy, he said, because in cyberspace "there is no such thing as a superpower: Every citizen is a superpower." With an army of "bots," or compromised computers, at their command, almost anyone could wield great power in a virtual battle, as a number of recent denial of service attacks against targets around the world have shown.Threats of cyberwar and a story of real violence rubbed shoulders at a news conference... more
"Doctors" took part in torture sessions, monitoring the tortured's metabolic functions and gathering data, even though international law expressly prohibits medical experimentation on prisoners. The weather and climate have a profound influence on our lives everywhere. Lives and livelihoods are disrupted in the path of storms and rising sea levels, retreating glaciers, intensifying droughts and floods, and food and water scarcity.
The Health and Climate Foundation has put together a contemporary art project that explores that relationship between climate and society.
Coinciding with the World Climate Conference 3 in Geneva, which runs from 31 August—4 September 2009, the exhibition is intended to provoke us to think about how we are affected by the environment, how it transforms us, and how we live with it.The weather and climate have a profound influence on our lives everywhere. and also the Pope wants a world peace and the last pope said that the next one is going to be the antichrist and in the bible it said even the antichrist wanted a NWO, so when you put all of this together the pope wants a new world order and nobody is standing in his way so this means the whole Vatican church is involved with the one world government.
Also when you look at the great ole Geneva it says on wikipedia: Geneva's economy is mainly services oriented. The city has an important and old finance sector, which is specialized in private banking (managing assets of about 1 trillion USD) and financing of international trade. It is also an important centre of commodity trade.
It said private banking and Alex Jones was saying that our entire world and America will be owned by private bankers and foreign interests.

GENEVA - Fixing the world's largest atom smasher will cost at least $21 millionand may take until early summer, its operator said Monday.
An electrical failure shut down the Large Hadron Collider on Sept. 19, nine days after the $10 billion machine started up with great fanfare.
The European Organization for Nuclear Research recently said that the repairs would be completed by May or early June. Spokesman James Gillies said the organization know as CERN is now estimating the restart will be at the end of June or later.
"If we can do it sooner, all well and good. But I think we can do it realistically (in) early summer," he said.
The organization has blamed the shutdown on the failure of a single, badly soldered electrical connection.
The atom smasher operates at temperatures colder than outer space to get maximum efficiency and experts needed to gradually warm the damaged section to better assess it, he said.
"Now the sector is warm so they are able to go in and physically look at each of the interconnections," Gillies told The Associated Press.

Switzerland's Protestant churches on Sunday began celebrating the 500th anniversary of the birth of John Calvin, a formative figure in the Reformation.
Born in France, Calvin spent some 20 years of his adult life in Switzerland's western city, transforming Geneva into a base for French Protestantism and an intellectual centre of Europe.
He reinforced the link between humanist thought and Christian convictions.
"Calvin, the visionary Reformer, sparked off a movement which has spread to the four corners of the earth: more than 80 million Christians living in 107 countries today acknowledge his legacy," said Setri Nyomi, the general secretary of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches.
Nyomi, the association's first non-European head, was joined at the Reformers' Wall in Geneva by officials from the Swiss Protestant Church Federation and by representatives of Reformed congregations from around the world.
Organisers of the Calvin Jubilee 2009 year will hold public exhibitions, courses and concerts leading up to a ceremony in Geneva next June.

Every August, during the Fêtes de Genève (Geneva Festival), there is a major fireworks display over the lake. People flock from all over the world, and there are almost a million people in town to watch the fireworks - Geneva's population is only about 200,000 so you can imagine the crowd... Rather than going down among the huge crowd, I go to the rooftop of the building adjacent to mine to watch the display. About a dozen or so people from that building and mine know about this possibility - the rooftop is a large flat terrace with penthouse studios for artists - so we are never a crowd up there. We bring drinks and food and folding chairs, and sit down to enjoy the spectacle. I made this video last year, this year I was unwell and missed going up to the rooftop to watch the show.
The rooftop is a few miles distant from the lake, which is why the fireworks seem small.

When I was a child, my mother, who worked at the UN, would get us tickets for the large paddle boat (it is a bit like the famous Mississippi steam paddle boats) which the UN charters every year for UN staff. There is a restaurant, and a band playing for people to dance after the fireworks show. Seeing the fireworks from the vantage of that boat on the lake is an extraordinary and unforgettable experience as the boat drops anchor in the middle of the Geneva bay close to the fireworks.

The word 'Frankenstein' has come to mean 'monsters of our own creation' but more generally, monsters beyond our control. 'Frankenstein' symbolizes a Faustian bargain made by man with his own technology. The '50's Sci-Fi classic, Forbidden Planet, echoed Shakespeare's The Tempest which, likewise, dealt with a related theme.
The world is now threatened with several forms of extinction: a slower demise from the disregard with which we have treated our environment, and the quick but not painless end from nuclear annihilation. Both monsters threaten to destroy us utterly. Both are our own creations. Both are the by-products of the Faustian bargain mankind has made with the universe. Both are 'Frankensteins' of our creation.
Since Mary Shelley published her story, Frankenstein's monster has usurped the name Frankenstein. Dr. Frankenstein, of course, had been a 'precocious student of natural philosophy from Geneva, where Mary Shelley was living with two gifted poets, her husband, Percy, and George Gordon, Lord Byron, the poet who wrote "The Prisoner of Chillion". It was at this time that the strange Gothic tale was given life.
The subtitle, "The Modern Prometheus," suggests a the three-fold tale in which the author makes the analogy between young Frankenstein's desire for scientific recognition and the Christian tale of Satan's fall from grace. The word 'Frankenstein' has come to mean 'monsters of our own creation' but more... more

Tests have cleared the way for the start-up next month of an experiment to restage a mini-version underground of the "Big Bang" which created the universe 15 billion years ago, the project chief said on Monday.
Lyn Evans of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) said weekend trials in the vast underground LHC machine in which the particle-smashing experiment will take place over the coming months and years "went without a hitch".
"We look forward to a resounding success when we make our first attempt to send a beam all the way round the LHC," said Evans, who heads the multinational team of scientists that shaped the project and the machine, the Large Hadron Collider.
