The Punk Patriot Performs an Experiment

Hi there. It’s been a while.
I’m a little fuzzier than last time we talked. I know you might have liked me better clean-shaven, but it’s cold outside, so I ask that you just put up with it.

So a little housekeeping to start. I want to point out that in a past video, I said that congress would never pass a repeal of DADT. Some of you asked that I make a retraction. So here it is: I was wrong about that, and I’m glad to be wrong about that. Now I can say things like “Shouldn’t all our soldiers be allowed to marry whomever they want?”

However, I don’t feel I’m wrong that both parties use wedge issues to fire up their base, and that neither party actually cares about these wedge issues. When Republicans rail against illegal immigration, and then it turns out that they have illegal immigrants working at their mansions as full time staff, that’s not hypocrisy. That’s just flat contempt for the stupidity of the voting population. When Democrats say that they care about poor people, but refuse to talk about Single Payer healthcare, or a living wage, that’s not their playing to the middle. They just don’t care. They’ve got corporate dollars to chase after so that they can fight the next election battle. Which brings me to another point I would like to develop more in a later video-- the real power center of the USA isn’t in Washington, DC. Those familiar with the term, “Soft Power” will recognize that the place where the bulk of the nation’s decisions are actually made is on Wall Street, in New York City. Protesting in Washington DC to be heard by congress or the President, is like yelling at a McDonald’s cashier about the rain forests being cleared for cattle in Brazil. It might make you feel better, but the kid behind the counter isn’t the person making the decisions for the company. He’s only there because that’s where he gets his paycheck. His job is to sell you on the idea of buying the apple pie... which isn’t even really an apple pie, but some sort of strudel in a cardboard box. and Ain’t that America?

One more item of housekeeping. This video is sort of an experiment. I want to see if actually want me to keep making these videos or not. If you do, please subscribe over at my blog for whatever level is right for you. We can work together on this. If I can get say, 60 people to subscribe at $10 a month (that’s $2.5 a week) I’ll be able to afford to quit my job, where I’m currently working 54hrs a week, and find part time work. I can also start making a Punk Patriot video every week.

No. Due to a glitch, google ad-sense never linked with my YouTube channel, and I was never able to collect my massive monthly paycheck of a whopping 38 cents in ad revenue.

And now some of you kids who think everything on the internet should be free, I want to tell you something-- things in real life aren’t free. President Obama forgot all about his "CHANGE"..

Reporting from Washington — Despite the historic defeat dealt to Democrats on Tuesday, President Obama appears to be resisting wholesale staff changes that would pry apart the circle of advisors he has relied on since the 2008 campaign.

Obama conceded he has made mistakes over the past two years, telling CBS's " 60 Minutes'' in an interview to be televised Sunday that he failed to clearly explain his decisions — a communications problem he said had diminished him as a leader.

But he shielded his staff from blame, saying: "I take personal responsibility for that. And it's something that I've got to examine carefully as I go forward.''

With Republicans now in control of the U.S. House, the White House quickly announced a few symbolic gestures intended to show they had absorbed the lessons of the midterm election. Obama invited both Democratic and Republican legislative leaders to a meeting followed by dinner in the White House on Nov. 18. It will be the first in a series of bipartisan overtures in the months to come, White House aides said.

But the lack of White House personnel moves — combined with the likely return of Nancy Pelosi as leader of the House Democrats and Harry Reid as majority leader of the Senate — leaves a different impression.

A Democratic strategist characterized the lack of change at the White House as "willful defiance." The strategist, who discussed the issue on condition of anonymity, said, "The political operation from top to bottom, north to south, east to west, needs to be really carefully looked at.''

Even within the White House, some aides have objected to what they see as an insular culture. Obama's practice of grooming understudies to fill big White House jobs is also under fire.

"The president needs a broader range of views on a daily basis than he's gotten up till now,'' said William Galston, a onetime aide to President Clinton and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. "One reason that Ronald Reagan succeeded as president was that he got out of his comfort zone when he appointed senior people, and I think this president needs some people around him who are prepared to challenge not only his policy instincts but his political instincts. As one of the most controversial chapters in U.S. economic history draws to a close, the Obama administration and its critics are writing very different obituaries of the $700-billion fund that bailed out Wall Street and the domestic auto industry.

Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner said the much-maligned Troubled Asset Relief Program "succeeded in ways that none of us could have imagined." And Herbert M. Allison Jr., who resigned Wednesday as TARP's head, said the fund laid the foundation for the nation's recovery — "at a fraction of the cost that was originally anticipated."

The program formally ends Oct. 3, exactly two years after its enactment by a panic-stricken Congress as the swift-moving financial crisis threatened to plunge the world into another Great Depression.
After initial concerns that most if not all of the $700 billion in taxpayer money would never be recovered, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that TARP would cost taxpayers $66 billion.

The fund's biggest initiative, injecting $205 billion in more than 700 banks nationwide, is now projected to make nearly $10 billion in profit. Almost three-fourths of that money has been repaid along with dividends and the sale of stock options the government received with the cash injections.

Despite the deep anger over the bailout that has made TARP a four-letter word to many, the emerging consensus among economists is that the unprecedented program succeeded in helping stem the financial crisis.

"It's probably the best federal program that we've done that's been despised," said Douglas J. Elliott, an economics fellow at the Brookings Institution. "There's a huge disconnect between the public perception of it …and what it actually accomplished. It was a very important part of avoiding a true financial meltdown."
