I have been a CurrentTV fan, an avid watcher and even participator since the beginning. I was one of the first people wearing my CurrentTV shirt and other "swag" they sent me for being such an active member. But when CurrentTV decided to trash their amazing user-generated content, it lost a lot of its appeal to me. I still watched certain shows and reports, and reporters, but it wasn't the same and I stopped being such an active member here in favor of other sites and threads.
Then CurrentTV did the best thing they could have in their quest to spread truth, they hired Keith Olbermann. Now i'm not gonna sit here and debate the facts and fictions of this argument of his dissmisal. I for one was upset with how often Olbermann was not on tv due to health issues, but I understood. Hell, his fill-in hosts were never that bad. Mr. Olbermann did a great job with what he was given, very low viewership on the channel as a whole, many cable companies not even carrying currentTV, unpaid bills, faulty graphic and technical issues and a set that broke mid-broadcast never to be repaird. He was then left with nothing but a black background in an empty studio. Still every weeknight there he was, to bring us the truth and fight for what most of us know is right and just.
No one on TV was covering #OWS in the begging, but Keith was. He was there from the beginning providing a fair and balanced opinion with tons of F A C T S!!! Then they brought in a bunch of nobodies to supplement him. Most of these hosts just don't have what it takes to keep a program such as theirs successful long-term, let alone short term. Hell most of their viewers were from K.O. viewers anyway. So now their numbers are plummeting.
So CurrentTV has gone and trashed their biggest asset, just like their user-generated content shows..... Oh and Who did they replace him with? A disgraced NY Governor. (thats a whole other topic in itself)
So once again, here we are again, CurrentTV taking two steps forward, and five steps back....then shooting itself in the foot again. Al Gore, a man I respected and held in high esteem, please stop making these stupid mistakes. Hyatt, you too!
STOP treating CurrentTV like every other capitalistic endeavor that anyone has been a part of and maybe start using the ideals and beliefs you claim to have, and actually reflect that in your programing and actions. You want to fill in some time, give the viewer generated content shows back...Hire people who are respected and are good at their job like Keith Olbermann, Rachael Maddow, and etc... Stop taking 2 steps forward and 5 steps back and TOGETHER WE CAN ACTUALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE! ISN"T THAT WHAT CURRENTTV WAS ALL ABOUT? INFORMING PEOPLE AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR THE BETTER???
rant over.I have been a CurrentTV fan, an avid watcher and even participator since the... more

Several old high school friends – people who have been out of touch for 30 plus years – have become Facebook friends. One was quite alarmed when she read on my newsfeed that I had become a Fan of Al Jazeera English.
“Are you serious?” she asked. “Why?”
I replied that I felt it was really hard to find good international coverage – especially about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan or the US bombing of civilians in Pakistan – in the US and that I felt I had a duty as an American citizen to stay informed about what my government does in my name. “Sometimes getting another perspective on an issue helps clarify it,” I added.
Her response came right back. “I’ll say that’s another perspective. But are they fair and balanced?”
I answered no, that I didn’t believe any news outlet was fair and balanced. “But I’m tired of only getting the pro-corporate, pro-Wall Street, pro-War point of view.”
Al Jazeera English
I was really excited when I learned in early 2006 that Al Jazeera was about to launch an English language station and website. Why was I excited? I had recently done some research on Irangate – an illicit covert operation the CIA undertook after Congress ended funding fund for the Nicaraguan contras in the early 1980s. Cash raised from the sale of missiles to Iran – which was illegal, as Iran was an enemy nation – was used to pay for shipments of small arms to Contra bases in Honduras. What has always intrigued me about the Iran Contra scandal is that the US mainstream media spiked the story – that it first came to public attention via a small Middle East (Lebanese) magazine. From there the European press picked it up, and the US networks and dailies could no longer ignore it.
My concern about US coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is that it virtually vanished after George Bush declared victory on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln in 2004. In my mind this is censorship pure and simple. Moreover if I can’t get good reporting from the American media, I will continue to seek out alternative news sources till I find one that covers the issues that are important to me. And Al Jazeera provides regular, reliable reporting on military initiatives and casualties in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Does Al Jazeera have a Bias?
On Wednesday April 7th I undertook a detailed comparison between the headlines on the BBC World Service and Al Jazeera English websites. I chose the BBC World Service because, like Al Jazeera English, it brands itself as an international news service – whereas there is no American “international” news service of comparable prominence. The lead article on both sites was the US reversal of their first strike nuclear policy, followed by Gordon Brown’s call for a May 6th election. The Brazilian mudslides, the escalation of the Red Shirt demonstrations in Thailand, the deadly raid by Maoists in India, the newest wave of explosions in Baghdad and the arrest of two men for the murder of the South African white supremacist Eugene Terblanche were also major headlines on both sites. The BBC also featured the most recent launch of the US space shuttle, which failed to make Al Jazeera’s front page. Whereas Al Jazeera gave prominence to the Sudan partial vote boycott and an earthquake in Indonesia, neither of which made the BBC lead headlines.
The most interesting feature I found on Al Jazeera English was their lead opinion piece: an article by a recent CIA station chief in Islamabad, Pakistan – about the significance of some informal contacts between low level members of the Obama administration and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas. CNN iReport bans Reid Baer videos based on conservative political content - anything anti OBAMA in nature is yanked; plus, CNN discontinues Baer’s designation as an iReporter at their website.
According to Baer, “I was being as FAIR AND BALANCED as I could, and I had a little fun with LIBERAL politics, so they ‘fired’ me. They even banned my recent HALLOWEEN video! What are they so scared of … I’m just a poet!?”

Take a look at Fox's own Web story on the episode. It begins by quoting a Fox News senior vice president named Michael Clemente, who says: "It's astounding the White House cannot distinguish between news and opinion programming. It seems self-serving on their part." Then it quotes David Gergen, the gravelly voice of Washington's conventional wisdom, who says the attack diminishes President Obama and works to Fox's benefit. Then we hear from Tony Blankley, Newt Gingrich's former press secretary and a frequent Fox contributor, who agrees that criticizing Fox makes no sense: "Fox has an audience of not just conservatives. They've got liberals and moderates who watch too." Then a White House correspondent for Politico echoes the claim that the controversy will boost Fox's ratings. Then comes an old quote from Fox anchor Chris Wallace, who calls Obama's team "the biggest bunch of crybabies I have dealt with in my 30 years in Washington." Then the story's anonymous author cites a joke Obama made at the White House Correspondents Dinner as evidence "that Fox News has gotten under his skin." Finally, the piece cites a Pew study that suggested that while Fox was equally negative about John McCain and Obama during the last six weeks of the 2008 campaign, CNN was more negative about McCain.
Let's do a quick study of our own. Five people are quoted in this article. Two of them work for Fox. All of them assert that administration officials are either wrong in substance or politically foolish to criticize the network. No one is cited supporting Dunn's criticisms or saying that it could make sense, morally or politically, for Obama to challenge the network's power. It's a textbook example of a biased news story.
If you were watching Fox News Channel, you saw the familiar roster of platinum pundettes and anchor androids reciting the same sound bites: criticizing Fox was Obama's version of Nixon's enemies list, the rest of the news media are in Obama's corner, Obama should get back to governing, Fox opinion shows are different from its news shows, it's always dumb to go after the press. On The O'Reilly Factor on Oct. 13, the evanescent Alan Colmes, the network's weak, battered house liberal, mumbled semi-agreement while "Doctor" Monica Crowley and Bill O'Reilly lit up the scoreboard with the familiar talking points.
Any news organization that took its responsibilities seriously would take pains to cover presidential criticism fairly. It would regard doing so as itself a test of integrity and take pains not to load the dice in its own favor. At any other network, accusation of bias might even lead to some soul-searching and behavioral adjustment. At Fox, by contrast, complaints of unfairness prompt only hoots of derision and demands for "evidence" and "proof," which when presented is brushed off and ignored.Take a look at Fox's own Web story on the episode. "No one on this Earth is going to block a shot on the O'Reilly Factor." - Bill O'Reilly
Bill O'Loofah again proves why he can be the only guardian of the "No Spin Zone".
Excuse me but I need to look for my air sickness bag.
It is almost too incredible to believe that The FAUX "News" Channel would put some of the stuff in this film on the air but here they are, fully exposed, in this short clip showing their anchors sniping and lying about Obama. FAUX is undeniably the most dishonest.network in broadcast television. For them to be able to use the slogan "Fair and Balanced" is one of the most egregious court decisions in civil law. Additionally, for them to add the slogan "We report, You decide" makes me want to hurl my dinner. It should be "We make up lies, You see if you can catch us before we edit the transcript."
While I am an Edwards supporter at this point, I congratulate Obama on continuing to keep FAUX from ambushing him. Perhaps if O'Loofah had just warmed him up with a little phone foreplay....."No one on this Earth is going to block a shot on the O'Reilly Factor."... more

finally, some actual, balanced, elevated, sophisticated debate and discourse on Real Time.
It has been a long time since I've seen a conservative really call Maher on his sh!t.
In this clip, Tucker makes a great point about how Bill (and liberals (current?contributors)) take relentless, vicious, cheap, personal shots at republicans .....just like the gop-minded(backed?) pundits do toward the dems.
It just seems soooo counterproductive to debate/draw attention to anything other than the issues at hand.
I love Bill's show just as much as the rest of the current libs....but not half as much as I did back when he was on network tv and showed more of his conservative streak....
I think the hollywood/LA scene has totally polarized/jaded his opinions and rendered an otherwise beacon of truth and sensibility.....useless??delusive? ineffective!!
His show has pretty much descended into a partisan love fest (kind of like a certain tv network....) I hope this episode is a swing back to the good old days of Politically Incorrect when fair, balanced, HELPFUL discussion reigned supreme.
next part of this convo: (warning there is some adult language in this clip (not for the kids))
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljHKHKVaynY
you can find the rest of this show on the internets / youtubes...or better yet, watch it via appropriate? channels.
related: I hope you guys do away with the "I support this / I don't support this" paradigm on the site BEFORE it goes public...especially for the "viewpoints" they are not campaigns, politicians, or referendums.
talk about further polarizing your audience and the population...wow...outrageous.. what about the f-ing grey areas?! ugh.. what good could possibly come out of this?
If current insists on maintaining some type of primitive voting system..please at least add a yellow light option....or use your collective imaginations....
i'm sure you'll come up with something amazing..as always
