Nearly five years on, he's still waiting for Dick Cheney to say he's sorry.
Meet Harry Whittington. He's the man former Vice President Dick Cheney shot in the face four years ago on a hunting trip. Now 82, Whittington discussed the incident for the first time in today's Washington Post. It seems getting blasted at close range with 200 pieces of birdshot was not the highlight of this elderly Texan's golden years. The incident did not bring him any closer to Cheney. In fact, he's kind of mad at the guy. Not because he shot him (in the face), but because he was rude about it after.
His injuries were more dire than originally reported. Whittington suffered a collapsed lung and underwent invasive exploratory surgery, as doctors probed his vital organs for signs of damage.
Two hundred bits of shrapnel pierced Whittington's face, neck and chest. His face is scarred and about 30 pieces of shot are still deeply embedded in his body.Nearly five years on, he's still waiting for Dick Cheney to say he's sorry.... more
