The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on the "Retrosexual" trend. Men dressing in vintage suits, drinking vintage scotch, and relating to women like they did in the fifties.
"Till the 1950s, manliness meant action and a force for good," says Brett McKay, 27, a law school graduate turned blogger. Then, feminism disturbed that order. "A lot of men were confused."
Is this the result of Mad Men? What are the other cultural factors that make us want to return to the olden days? The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on the "Retrosexual" trend. Men dressing... more

In the light of recent events that have taken place in the state of California, many people have decided that it’s time to take matters into our own hands. We will not sit back and let the rest of the world decide what we can and cannot do in America the Free.
We have borrowed from the Chicano movement and modified their "Day without a Mexican" into "Day without a Gay."
This concept is simple, but makes a huge impact.
On December 10th, 2008 we ask that all people in the LGBT community and all of our supporters call in sick to work and do not attend school. We ask that you do not purchase anything that day. We want California to see how many of us there are, and that there may be a person in their life that they didn’t know was gay.
Please join us. I know, personally, how extremely difficult it can be to come out and be open about yourself. I have overcome my fear, and I hope that all of you are able to as well.
We need to stand strong in California, and around the country. We need those that oppose us to know that we are strong and that we will NEVER GIVE UP.
Join us, and gain your equality. **this is not restricted to California**

"The Switch" is an acclaimed independent film that received Tropfest short film awards at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. The guiding theme for the 2007 Tropfest competition was the concept of a “slice”, which the juried films portrayed with a variety of techniiques, ranging from incorporating slices of food in a film, to a more subtle psychological "slicing up" of a film's characters, to even slicing the movie screen in half.
"The Switch" weaves an unusual story that reveals the painful experience of a grievously fated intimate attraction. Specifically, the film traces the course of a serendipidous encounter between two people whose surface disparities form the basis of their strong mutual attraction, while a more fundamental difference between them ensures that the yearnings both harbor for the most intimate level of love with each other will be doomed. However, the ending of this film expresses an important message to more attentive viewers about the relational importance of the experience of surprise.
This piece includes a number of photographs and the Tribeca Film Festival award-winning, humorously bittersweet short film, "The Switch.""The Switch" is an acclaimed independent film that received Tropfest short... more

Divorce destroys the sanctity of marriage and its powerful influence on the betterment of society. This proposition would keep the very meaning of marriage from being transformed into nothing more than a contractual relationship between two adults. Prohibiting divorce between heterosexual married couples will keep the interests of children and families intact. We will continue to celebrate marriage as the union of husband and wife, not as a relationship between Party A and Party B. The marriage of a man and a woman has been at the heart of society since the beginning of time and it promotes the ideal opportunity for children to be raised by a mother and a father in a family held together by the legal, communal, and spiritual bonds of marriage. As a society we should put the best interests of children first, and those interests lie in traditional marriage. Permitting divorce destroys marriage as we know it and causes a profound harm to society. We should be restoring marriage, not undermining it.
And for those of you who voted yes on Prop 8 but disagree with this petition...Why? This petition is copied and pasted from literature from your website, ProtectMarriage.com, but applied to Divorce instead of Gay Marriage. So how can you argue with your own words?

The Vatican issued new psychological screening guidelines for seminarians Thursday the latest effort by the Roman Catholic Church to be more selective about its priesthood candidates following a series of sex abuse scandals.
The church said it issued the new guidelines to help church leaders weed out candidates with "psychopathic disturbances." The scandals have rocked the church in recent years, triggering lawsuits that have cost hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements.
"(The guidelines) became ever more urgent because of the sexual scandals," Monsignor Jean-Louis Brugues told reporters. He stressed, however, that psychological testing was used in some seminaries as far back as the 1960s or at least a decade before the sexual abuse scandals exploded in public.
"In all too many cases, psychological defects, sometimes of a pathological kind, reveal themselves only after ordination to the priesthood," the guidelines said. "Detecting defects earlier would help avoid many tragic experiences."
The guidelines said problems like "confused or not yet well-defined" sexual identities need to be addressed.
The Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests said the Vatican needs to go beyond screening seminarians to end what the group calls the church's "virtually unchanged culture of secrecy and unchecked power in the hierarchy" that left dangerous priests in parishes.
"Every barrel will always have some bad apples," the Survivors Network said. "Real change requires effectively reforming the barrel and those who oversee it."
Vatican officials conducted an evaluation of U.S. Roman Catholic seminaries in response to the abuse crisis to look for anything that contributed to the scandal. The evaluation was completed in July of 2006, but the results have not been made public.
The bishops and seminary staff who conducted the onsite reviews gave special attention to what seminarians are taught about chastity and celibacy. The Vatican also directed the evaluators to look for "evidence of homosexuality" in the schools.
Studies commissioned by the bishops' conference have found that the majority of known victims of abuse by priests in the last 50 years were adolescent boys. In response, some Catholics have blamed gay clergy for the scandal; experts on sex offenders contend homosexuals are no more likely than heterosexuals to molest children.
A 2005 Vatican document said men with "deep-seated" homosexual tendencies shouldn't be ordained, but that those with a "transitory problem" could become priests if they had overcome them for three years. The Vatican considers homosexual activity sinful.
The new guidelines reflect the earlier teaching, stressing that if a future priest shows "deep-seated homosexual tendencies," his seminary training "would have to be interrupted."
The guideline say priests must have a "positive and stable sense of one's masculine identity" and the capacity to "integrate his sexuality in accordance" with the obligation of celibacy.
______________________
Don't you feel safer in the confessional already? This is really a hoot to me. The Vatican issues "psychological" screening guidelines for priests to cover themselves for prior sex scandals while totally oblivious to the psychological defects of its own policy on celibacy, homosexuality, and its obvious mysogynistic policies against women. Why are priests not allowed to be married? Why do they see sex as sinful? Why are women treated as second class members of the church? Looks like it isn't just priests who need a psychological evaluation.

Although reggae is known for its militancy and its resistance to injustice, the reggae community has remained calm throughout the attack on the music by Peter Tatchell and other Gay activists groups. Rather than going on the offense, the reggae community will instead unite in solidarity a day prior to labor day in New York City.
TCOOO Productions the label behind the "18 Karat Reggae" CD series is holding the first ever Straight Pride Parade in Brooklyn, New York on August 31, 2008. The parade will take place on Eastern Parkway along the same route as the annual Caribbean labor day parade.
New reggae / dancehall sensation Jango Fresh said, "the Straight pride parade is a great idea because when a song like "Hit them hard" by my label mate Stapler can be banned just because it stresses the importance of a male and a female in every family, it is a sign that heterosexuals need to wake up.
The Straight Pride Parade is a chance for Heterosexuals to gather together and proudly embrace their sexuality. The Parade will also allow reggae and dancehall fans who are in New York City for the Labor Day celebrations to get together and celebrate reggae, dancehall and family in love and unity. Adults are encouraged to bring their children along for the celebrations, as the event will be family oriented.
The president of TCOOO said he hopes the event will unify the reggae community who has seen many reggae events cancelled recently not only in the United States but all over Europe and the Caribbean. "I sat quietly and watched as they cancelled artists like Buju Banton, Sizzla Kalonji and Capleton" he said, "but when the gay community went after TCOOO artists like Vineyard the Rebel Priest, Stapler and Jango Fresh we decided that we must make a show of strength."
Reggae artist Stapler whose song "Hit them Hard" was climbing the reggae charts was suddenly banned for what the artist said was nothing but pro family lyrics. "It is like we are not allowed to talk about the importance of a family anymore" Stapler told DJ Ron Muschette on Irie FM in Jamaica.
TCOOO Productions whose profiles can be found at [www.myspace.com/tcooo www.myspace.com/tcooo and [www.tcooo.imeem.comwww.tcooo.imeem.com is getting a lot of support for staging the Straight Pride Parade as thousands of fans have already let it be known that they will be attending the parade in August. All the artists who are on the latest TCOOO release "18 Karate Reggae: Global Warming" will be performing at the parade. These artists include Stapler, Jango Fresh, Vineyard the Rebel Priest, Massicker and Zeego Zaro.
Hit Them Hard - Stapler
(chorus)
Jah Jah gonna hit them hard
All the men who visit men backyard
Leaving all the women to starve
One thunder ball and all of them pause
Hand in hand with my lady
Hug her and kiss her cause she carried my baby
But some boys moving shady
While am chilling on the ends making sweet love to Sadie
All I know am here to produce and all the ladies you are my friends
From the past, the present, the future my girl, love and respect to the end
(chorus)
Remember you are a King, what happened to your queen
The youths need a role model to instill self esteem
So live your life clean
and you will see what I mean
(chorus)
The world is spinning and everything in it
Mankind lose their way, some gone past their limit
Am here to advice and to be a critic
Be careful of the lifestyle you choose to exibit
Children live what they learn
Aren't you concerned
of your choices in society
We need to preserve the value of a male and a female in every family

While some seek to counter homophobia by claiming they are born gay, others are insistent it is a choice and that they are proud to have chosen.

So what does this research really tell us?
