7-Eleven Inc. said Thursday that its franchisees and store operators have collected 1.6 million signatures in its petition drive against what it calls unfair credit card fees.
The Dallas-based convenience store chain held the signature drive from June 22 through Aug. 10 at store counters across the country. Dear HipHop Fam. I could not let this opportunity pass by without sharing it with you all. Could 7-Eleven be the next Vitamin Water and make you rich? Well, it could be a start.
Those who know me personally know that I love to broker sweet real estate and loan deals for my friends as a hobby. So when I saw that 7-Elevens' plans to add 600 stores over the next seven years to its franchise...let's just say I saw dollar signs and tons of opportunity.
We all know 50 cent brokered a sweet deal with Vitamin Water that netted him a cool chunk of change. So I began to wonder: Is 7-Eleven one of the next big waves hitting commerical real estate, especially while there are so many deals out there? Is the Tokyo-based Seven & I Holdings Co. using California as its test market? And if it succeed, then will they move to different parts of the US, swallowing up real estate like Wal-Mart? The wheels are turning and the dollar signs are adding up...

America's 7-Eleven chain of convenience stores will launch a Domo-branded Slurpee drink as part of a promotional campaign with Dark Horse Comics and Tokyopop on October 1. During the six-week campaign, 7-Eleven stores will offer the Red Apple-flavored Slurpee in an exclusive brown-flocked cup under development. The campaign's partners are discussing some other possible tie-ins, such as straws with detachable fuzzy Domo figurines "in hip hop and wrestling costumes" and a Domo Attack! energy drink.
Rich Collins, the CEO of the Big Tent Entertainment company in charge of NHK's Domo brand in the United States, said the Slurpee is Red Apple-flavored "because Domo doesn't like apples. That way you don't have to worry about Domo stealing your Slurpee." Dark Horse Comics will produce exclusive toys for the campaign, and Tokyopop will offer a sample version of its Domo comic book.
New online anime shorts will create a story about "Domo's quest for a Slurpee and how he gets a brain freeze in the process." New shorts were previously created for the Domo Halloween campaign in the Target chain of department stores last year. This year's promotional campaign will eventually to lead to America's first Domo DVD, which will contain the online shorts, the Japanese commercials, and other extras.
Big Tent also announced on Tuesday that GoAnimate.com is featuring Domo in its online animation creation tool. The new option will allow users to create their own animation with Domo and his friends.

Seven-Eleven is again conducting polls to see who the next president of the United States will be, allowing customers to "vote" for the candidate of their choosing via their selection of coffee cup.
The results page shows some unlikely results (for example, Texas is blue for Obama right now), but the page brags that it predicted the last two elections accurately - they had George Bush trumping Al Gore by 1% and John Kerry by 2%, which was just about right...

Authorities in Phoenix have arrested a man who walked into a 7-Eleven store with his two young sons, holding one in his arm, and shot the clerk in front of his kids. Although the police has not released the clerk's name, the Arizona Republic says that a nephew of the victim named the clerk as 62-year-old Inder Jit Jassal.
What happened in the ensuing moments was a brief conversation between the man and the store clerk that ended with the man pulling out a gun and, in front of the kids, fatally shooting the clerk, authorities said.
Seven hours after the slaying, acting on a call from a citizen who saw a TV news report, police took Jermaine Canada into custody as he walked along the area of 26th Avenue and Camelback Road. Police say Canada was wearing the same bright orange pair of shorts the gunman was seen wearing in the video.
"He went in, had a brief conversation, and shot the clerk," said Phoenix Detective Stacie Derge, a department spokeswoman. "Based on the video, it did not appear to be an argument."
The shooting was reported at 2:15 a.m. from a payphone near the intersection of Glendale and 27th avenues.

The night Halo 3 launched, I brought my digi-camera (and my coworker Patrick) along to the 7-Eleven, where I'd preordered my copy of Halo 3 earlier in the day. Maybe it's a bad idea to invest your confidence in a convenience store. At the time, though, I didn't think about it.
But, upon our arrival at the appointed hour (midnight!), we discovered that Halo had SO given us the diss. Here's a short documentary film about what happened that night.
(P.S. The audio goes out of sync within the first third, thanks to some messy conversion poop that happened when I uploaded it. Ugh.)The night Halo 3 launched, I brought my digi-camera (and my coworker Patrick) along to... more
